I editorial HER MAJESTY'S SILVER JUBILEE has particular significance ic our Corps in that we share, with few others, the privilege of having The Queen as our Colonel-in-Chief. A major event of this Silver Jubilee Year is, as you know, the Silver Jubilee Appeal and here we have a rare opportunity of giving concrete and effective expression to our loyalty and affection. In his broadcast to the nation, HRH The Prince of Wales launched the Silver Jubilee Appeal as did his predecessor, Edward, Prince of Wales, in April 1935. The appeal in 1935, *.:unvn as King George's Jubilee Trust, aimed at providing opportunities of healthy self-development for the nations youth, by assisting existing youth organisations and by providing additional recreational facilities—such as playing fields, gym- nasiums and camp sites. It was a great success. Today the appeal is again directed towards youth, though in perhaps a more positive manner, in aiming to give the nations youth greater opportunity and encouragement to serve the communities in which they live. Television film, supporting the ^npeal. depicted the wide variety of areas in which youth could contribute, I was particularly interested in the emphasis laid on the help that might be given through voluntary work and in particular, Riding for the Disabled. As Chairman of a local RDA Group I have had first hand experience of the consider- able benefits that young people can derive from such activity- bo th in the giving and in the receiving. We have, as a Corps, been asked to make a special effort to help to raise funds for the Appeal and THE GAZETTE will be pleased to give publicity to any interesting "*and unusual fund raising ideas which you may have. In these difficult times, such a cause offers the promise of a very high rate of interest on our contributions—properly in- vested in the physical, social and moral well being of the future, The Appeal closes on 30th April 1978.
