CORPS FOOTBALL
RAOC
V
REME
THE 1977 Stanbois Cup match between RAOC and REME
was the closest and one of the most hard fought matches in
recent years. Playing at Bicester, the two teams were level at
2-2 at full time and a well taken goal by Corporal Goucher
the Army and REME centre back during extra time T clinched
the game for REME.
REME led at half time by one goal to nil after the Corps
had produced the more constructive and attractive football.
Lance Corporals Dagnell, James and Langley being outstanding
at the back and in midfield, whilst Private Whitehead and Lance
Corporal Jackson always looked dangerous in attack. The
Corps suffered a severe blow in the middle of the first half when
Lance Corporal Ruddick was badly concussed and was replaced
by Corporal Pearson.
In spite of this set back the Corps
continued to play superb football against a side which con-
tained no fewer than six Army players.
RAOC started strongly in the second half and within fifteen
minutes had taken goals by Whitehead and Crouch, Both these
players deserve great credit for the confident way in which
they took on a very strong REME defence. The Corps held on
to the lead until the last ten minutes of the match during con-
stant pressure from the opposition. At the end of the match
Brigadier Roycroft presented the trophy to the captain of the
REME team and echoed the remarks of all the spectators by
saying that it was one of the most thrilling and exciting foot-
ball matches seen at Bicester for a long time. The Corps team
comprised:—Sergeant
Franklin
(Training Centre),
Lance
Corporal Dagnell (COD Bicester), Corporal Chalmers (Train-
ing Centre), Lance Corporal Ruddick (AIDU), Corporal Kennard
(CVD AshchurchX Lance Corporal Langley (COD Bicester),
Lance Corporal James (CAD Kineton), Lance Corporal Morton

THE RAOC (BAOR) TABLE
CHAMPIONSHIPS
TENMS
THE Ballroom at Mossbank Barracks. Bielefeld, provided the
ideal setting for the 1977 RAOC Table Tennis Championships.
Due to a vigorous publicity campaign the championships were
well supported with most BAOR Units represented.
Once under way, the various events comprising Singles.
Doubles and an Open Plate competition produced good table
tennis. Competition was keen with the majority of matches
being finally decided on the result of the third game.
Before presenting the prizes Lieutenant Colonel D. A.
Man, the new chairman of RAOC Table Tennis in BAOR,
thanked all competitors for their attendance, enthusiastic dis-
play, and sportsmanship. He also paid a special tribute to the
team from 20 OFP who took both Unit titles in this years
championships.
The results were as follows:
Singles—The Unit Championship Shield; Winner, Major
Champion, 20 Ordnance Field Park ; Runner-up, W02 Thomas,
