^ngralulations go to Sergeant Pete Millison who won the '<AC)C Ski-ing Individual Championships in Scotland last • onlh. {Sec the rvporl vn page 3). mander Training Centre. Brigadier Dennison. carried out our FFR. In spile of some rather sneaky efforts by his GS02, Major Jeremy Baines, we think we came out rather well. TRAINING BATTALION AND DEPOT SINCE the last GAZI-TTE Notes we have seen two more Passing Out Parades in the Company, both of which were taken by our new Commanding Officer. Lieutenant Colonel A. D. Sharpc. The first was that of Delhi Platoon, the second Malta. The Malia Platoon parade saw the Company in their new white plastic webbing and supported, musically, by the Staff Band of the Womens Army Corps. The Company has also been doing its bit for the com- ; uinity and charity this month. The efforts of swimmers in a ponsored swim for the British Heart Foundation raised just over £60. Employment Training and Malta Platoons also managed to collect £160 for the Army Benevolent Fund. Northern Ireland Malta Platoon recruits collecting for the Army Benevolent Fund. Corporal Elaine Jackson, WRAC, has recently married Driver Duncan Steadwood, RCT. We wish them both well lieutenant Mark Frazer has left us to take command of the RAOC Mobile Display Team for the 1977 display season. His place has been taken by Lieutenant Mark Whickham who joins us from the Royal Marine Commandos, Corporal Nightingale is congratulated on his third tape, as is Lance Corporal Blake on his first. Corporal Osborne has left us on posting^we wish him much luck. Captain Joe Hastings has joined us to take over temporarily from Captain Anthony Aggett who is attending his OOs course. Private Frank Fay pulled off the double by playing for the Training Battalion and Depot in the winning teams in both ihe Hill and Richards Cup matches. Finally Alan Inions, once a recruit in Gibraltar Platoon, passed out at Sandhurst's Sovereign's Parade on 7th April as a Junior Under Officer—we congratulate him and wish him a successful career in the Corps. EMPLOYMENT TRAINING SCHOOL WE tried to cancel April,—not because of lack of interest but be- cause it looked rather onimous, starting as it did with our annual FFR. To our relief the FFR was postponed till later in the month so we decided to accept the inevitable. The first of April was however, departure day for that :ulwart of the Surrey Fire Brigade, Station Officer Bob Wake- tord. Bob has been assisting with Fire Training for the past two years and his departure is the final severance of the train- ing ties with the Surrey Fire Brigade after many years. Our grateful thanks to the Brigade go with him. Bob was lunched out by the Officers of the School and'our FSO 1 Bill Harold and his staff, remained behind afterwards to check him out (or so they said). There were a number of other important happenings this month, but pride of place must go to Val Harrison, wife of Corporal Stu Harrison, who gave birth to a baby girl, Clare •-.ouise. Captain Terry Wood came from the 15 COD School to visit us and left shaking his head in amazement after being (hope- fully) blinded by science. However, the big day dawned on 26th April when the Com- ^ ^ t ^ ^ HEADQUARTERS RAOC E success tne 1 " G$a ' " ' 1 ™ °f RAOC Northern Ire- I raff I land Hockey team in the Bari Cup Com- I ^ss?fl??l I petition we felt, merits our feature for 1 (j^^mVj? We naturally congratulate Kineton on a worthy win but feel very proud of our team's performance particularly bearing in mind the early setbacks caused by injuries. Without mention of personalities we say a ' well done * to the whole squad on what we consider no mean achieve- ment and note that the ' s i g n s ' are indicating a win next year. ,Our special thanks to Lieutenant Colonel Tim Start and ihe Ordnance Depot for their % management services.' The CRAOC, Lieutenant Colonel M. J. M. O'Dea, approved the award of RAOC Northern Ireland Hockey Colours t o : Major D: R. C. Berridge. Captain P. A. Harrington, W 2 L. Rowland, Staff Sergeants R. 1. Barnes and A. Matthews, Sergeants K. Murray, R. F. Watson and R. D. Fella, Corporal D. W. H. W p arrier and Private M. T. Anderson. According to the media (a title which always confounds our scribe) Squash is the 4 in ' game. So HQ RAOC Officers, not wishing to be left behind in the Rat Race, are making plans for this * fit keeping' game hourly. So far one game has taken place; we thought something unusual had happened when Major Malcolm Hill hobbled into the office holding his back together with one hand and his creaking knees with the other; his opponent Captain Gordon Geddie hasn't even been seen yet. We guess that, combined with his gardening activities he has lost so much weight that we can't see him. No mention has been made of the final score, but we think the ball must surely be the victor. We still await the great game between CRAOC and Major Leslie Brown, which has been hinted at on various occasions! Congratulations to Sergeant Ralph Fella, Sergeant Pete Thomason and Sergeant Ian Sylvester on substantive promotion. Farewell to : Sergeant John Flanagan. ORDNANCE DEPOT A BUSY period shared, no doubt, by many Units as the Annual Report on a Unit came and went. Our preparation was well worth the effort as it allowed a pleasant days visit from our Colonel A(>—Colonel J. M, Cubiss. Accompanied by the Commanding Officer the day started at the Supply Sub-Depot, Lisburn, then, by helicopter, to the Ammunition Sub-Depot Ballykinler, then on to Kinnegar again by helicopter to compete the days inspection. The Colonel AQ met all military and many of our civilian staff, finding morale high and a job well dene. At long last the Hockey season came to a halt with a superb performance by Kinnegar to win the Northern Ireland League Championship by one point from the Royal Hampshire Regiment. Our final statistics are well worth producing as by any standards this was a very high, consistent performance over six months: Played sixteen, won fourteen, drawn one, lost one, for fifty four, against twelve, points twenty nine. Our top scorer was as ever, Corporal Mick Morea, with a total of thirty four. Including Cup and Friendlies, we played thirty four matches scoring one hundred goals of which Morea collected sixty. Basketball under Captain Stan Matthews is flourishing, to date we have lost all five of our matches but guarantee a full squad every time. Our biggest losing margin so far has only been twenty points so we look forward to reporting some success, The Football team continue their brave unrewarding up- hill plod. Without a success to our name this year, we at least came second in our group for the Northern Ireland Sixes but could not qualify for the final. Our congratulations to Captain Mike and Non Wilcox on the birth of baby, Rachel Louise, on 6th April and to Sergeant Peter Baker on promotion, This month we say farewell to our senior soldier—CSM Clive Rose on retirement. He can be seen in a flat hat in the |
