\ ML; highlight of the month must be the announcement of
:v.; award of the Honorary MBE to Mr D. Popovic, known to
^.-Mcralions of Bramleyites as 'Pop,* for his services to the wel-
fare of the EVW contingent over the twenty six years he has
served at Bramley. We all join in congratulating him on this
wtjll deserved honour.
April on the playing fields has been a month of much
endeavour but little success. Top marks must go to Captain
John Robertson and Lance Corporal Phil Hussey for their
efforts in the Devizes to Westminster canoe race. Their noble
effort was terminated at Reading after fifty five miles, by an
injury to Captain Robertson, which necessitated retirement.
C inveniently, Reading was the nearest port to home!
Sporting honours must go this month to Corporal Paddy
Connolly who. whilst umpiring the Sergeants Mess hockey com-
petition ensured partial success for Bramley by sending off the
majority of the opposition. The team prize goes to Captain
Fox's sharp shooters who have gained second and third places
in the RAOC Non Central Meeting.
Our Hockey team, after a lightning passage to the final,
failed by two goals to nil to lift the South East District Knock-
out Cup.
The Soccer team has met with mixed success but still
[VTtures hopes of honours in the South East District League
«.id two Rugby teams entered the Bruce Sevens. Enough said!
We do. however, eagerly await the results of the Army Ski
Championships in which the Commandant, Major Robin Farey,
and Major Andy Robertson teamed up with Corporal Mc-
Kinnon, Lance Corporal Elstub and Private Cassidy to represent
the Unit, a culmination of two weeks 'holiday 1 in Aviemore,
To add to our record of losses this month we must record
the moving on of Staff Sergeant Ashurst, Sergeant Thomson
RAPC, Corporals Barnes and Proctor, Lance Corporals Ince,
Gelling and Luck, Privates Quinn and Bowker.
As increases to our manpower, we welcome WOl Whatley.
Sergeant Hall RAPC, Sergeant Lindsay, Corporal LiY&sey and
Lance Corporal Peacock.

New blood in the Ironsides is beginning to have the desired
effect on results, following defeats in both Cup Competitions
ihis season, as our performance in the Bruce Sevens at Black-
down showed. The Ironsides took two full teams to the Bruce
Sevens, The B Team captained by Corporal Steve Brown, was
most unfortunate to be beaten in the quarter-finals of the Plate
Competition. However, the A Team were seldom stretched
as they went on to win the Bruce Plate by a handsome margin.
Scores were as follows: CAD Bramley 32-0. 10 Ordnance Sup-
port Battalion S-0, (Final) RAOC Apprentice College 40-0.
The A Team consisted of Sergeant Frank Smith (Captain),
'A 02 ; M a t ' Matakitoga, Sergeant Gordon Lloyd-West, Corporal
T
Brad ' Bradshaw, Corporal Jack Butler, Lance Corporal Paddy
ShufTlebottom, Lance Corporal Tim 'Fingers' Murphy, Private
Mick Hartley and Private Steve Barret.
In B Team were
Corporal Steve Brown (Captain), Corporal Glen Stott, Corporal
Alex Travell, Lance Corporal Mick Lincoln, Lance Corporal
* Jock' Morrison, Private Jim Bruce and Private * Geordie *
Dickson.
A good time was had by all and a victory was a good way
• "• finish the season.
Our underwater news this month comes from Corporal
Alex Ridley who, together with two other divers, have started
the Subaqua Club going again. Now we have two Dive Marshalls,
Sergeant Bob Norton and Corporal Alex Ridley, one third
class diver, Private Mick Hartley and five other divers.- Snorkel
meetings have been held at Blenham Lake which ailhough it is
only thirty feet deep is excellent for starting the sport of diving.
Our congratulations also go this month to Lance Corporal
Montgomery who was presented with the Corps colours for
Squash by the Commandant.
Presentation of the Corps Colours by Colonel K. A. Berresford

Longtown
WE have been told it is Spring, although the weather makes it
hard to believe, and it is time to come out of hibernation and
make a contribution to THE GAZETTE.
Life at Longtown is never dull; recently a contractor dug
up a bomb. As there was some doubt as to whom it belonged,
both the RE and RAF Bomb Disposal Teams were called in.
What matter if in the end it proved to be filled with sand
and that the part of the Depot in question used to be used by
the RAF as a practice Bomb Range.
We have had our share of visitors and of course as the
weather improves (it must!) we will be getting our annual
influx.
On the day of writing these notes we have the DLSA
Specialist Team carrying out their inspection and Brigadier
J. H. Lawrence-Archer presented the Long Service and Good
Conduct Medal to WOl Peter Goodwin at an informal ceremony
in the Sergeants Mess,
During a recent visit Major General Minogue presented
the Imperial Service Medal to Mr Tommy Daly who has been
associated with the Army for over thirty seven years! Thirty
two of these at CAD Longtown.
