walk/run on behalf of the ACROSS
Charity, I was asked to insert * a gruell-
ing one hundred miles' however, having covered the same route
driving the back-up Land Rover and not finding it at all
gruelling I have left it out! The course between BMH Iserlohn
and the BFBS studios in Cologne was split into two days of
forty miles, and then the final twenty miles on the third day
which was to be covered in the quickest possible time to
qualify for a special shield. In a valiant effort and in spite of
the lack of signs, they made second place. The team of Private
' Taff' Davies and Private 'Footsore 1 Bates was placed sixth
Liner covering a claimed distance of thirty odd miles which
left behind a trail of bewildered German policemen. On one
occasion, in desperation, seeing a large sign ' British Consul'
they wandered over in an attempt to find the BFBS studio.
On asking directions they found that the gent they took to be
the British Ambassador could not speak a word of English,
Eventually they realised he was the ticket collector and they
were in a German cinema. The sign 4 BRITISH C O N S U L '
that had attracted their attention was advertising a film
Meanwhile the Sergeants too were relaxing in the BFBS
studios after a quick interview of Ken and Kevin by Disc
Jockey Johnny Walker, which was broadcast live, the teams
helped in an attempt to dry the BFBS ban
The return journey to Herford was the quietest part of the
three days, with four pairs of feet protruding from the rear of
the Land Rover so ably driven by Sergeant John (not Foot-
sore) Hall. A total of £500 was raised for a very worthwhile
charity.
20 ORDNANCE FIELD PARK
TWENTY ORDNANCE FIELD PARK have done it again! Our
Football team, captained by Sergeant Leitch has won the DOS
BAOR Cup in a 3-2 victory over RAOC Rheindahlen, The
team, however, are given no respite and are in training for
the OFP Cup. We have also had unexpected success at Table
Tennis in the 4 Division Table Tennis Tournament.
Major
Champion won the singles and together with Private Joe Field-
ing the doubles. Sergeant Andy Smith and Lance Corporal
Davies did well and came third in the doubles. On top of all
this Second Lieutenant Andy Wallace lead a spirited team in a
Rugby Sevens competition—although not winning,
Elles Barracks is filling up with the Combat Supplies lads
no have now formed the Combat Supplies Platoon under the
leadership of Lieutenant Chris Lloyd.
The senior ranks had a Range Day with our German
counterparts, 210 Nachschub Kompanie, this month and had a
very enjoyable day, thoroughly enjoying the hospitality. The
CSM is arranging a return visit and we shall have our work
cut out now to match the overwhelming hospitality. Those
old members of 20 OFP Sergeants Mess will be pleased to
hear that the Mess has now moved across the road into the
original OFP Sergeants Mess.
Captain Andy Simpson has left us for four months and
^••es back to the Mother country for his Ordnance Officers
Course.
We have received some very distinguished visitors recently
m the form of the DOS Army, DOS BAOR and three US
Army Colonels.

6 ORDNANCE FIELD PARK
AT last the Great Trek, as a result of restructuring, from Men-
den to Soest is over and we are finally entrenched in temporary
accommodation here in Salamanca Barracks. The move itself
took place over a period of three weeks and full credit must
be given to all ranks in the Unit for maintaining a good sense
of humour and working extremely hard during a somewhat
traumatic period. On arrival in Soest one of the first priorities
was for CSM Clarke to plan a new L Murder Mile' to keep us
occupied on Tuesday and Thursday mornings—needless to say
one was found of reasonable severity.
We have also had a two day full deployment exercise in
case we got out of practise.
Unfortunately, it rained and
snowed for about a week before the exercise and the ground
became somewhat waterlogged. Well, if nothing else every-
body received plenty of instruction and practical experience
in vehicle recovery.
On the sporting side we have also been busy. Lieutenant
Oldham is at present training the Rugby team for the 4 Division
seven-a-side competition. We also had the honour of providing
six of the eight runners for the RAOC 4 Division Cross Country
team. Yet again this year the Orienteering team reached the
BAOR finals—this time Second Lieutenant France took pride
of place by smashing his compass halfway round the course,
needless to say we didn't win.
We welcome Lieutenant Oldham, Second Lieutenant Shore,
Lance Corporals Folland. Hughes and Haines. Privates Langs-
ford and Porter
Farewell to Staff Sergeant Dalton, Sergeant Davies, and
Privates Riley and Hodson.
Our congratulations to Corporal Hodgkiss and Lance
Corporal McDonald on their promotion also to Lance Corporal
and Mrs Bridges on the birth of their daughter,
Combat Supplies Battalion
SO much happens in the Battalion that reading GAZETTE Notes,
when they appear, is often delving back into history. To make
these notes more immediate, the forecast of events list has
been consulted. 40 RP Company (V) are being hosted by 49 RP
Company, we hope that they enjoy their visit to Paderborn.
Captain Clive Beaumont, who now hangs his hat in 49 RP
Company, has written the Administrative Order and by the
look of it, they are going to have a busy time,
The Battalion is shortly to take part in its annual Summer
Camp co-located with an American Unit in Heidelberg, It is
almost certain that the Battalion Second in Command, Major
Portman, will come away with an American parka, The aim
of the camp is to improve the Regimental skills of the Battalion,
The
DCOS, Major General Callan, presents the Long
and Good Conduct Medal to SQMS Yarney.
