Transcription and EO this end the O j r r ^ n v CSMs have been producing some
all embracing training programmes.
CSM ' Wings' Walls
of 43 RP Company hv, produced a programme which shows
physical training every morning before breakfast. Perhaps that
is the reason why few members of Command and Control Com-
pany have volunteered u t go with thai Company!
Another forthcoming -vent for Paderborn and the Battalion
is the visit by Her Majesty The Queen on 7th July,
The
Battalion commitment, is rhe lunching of some four hundred
guests of two star rank r jr equivalent in the local school. There
is a rumour that four hundred members of the Battalion are being
paraded outside the school to provide a place to put four
hundred hats while their owners are eating!
To return to recent events when the DGOS. Major General
M. Calian. visited the Battalion. His visit went very well,
particularly so for our Pakistani Dog Handlers to whom he
spoke fluent Urdu. He also spoke to our German workers in
fluent German, he did, however, ignore our Turkish labourer.
The General's English was kept in trim with the presentation of
the Long Service and Gond Conduct Medal to SQMS Varney.
The DGOS talks to one of the Do^g Handlers—together with the
MSO Superintendent Captain Gunson, Captain Greenwood and
Lieutenant Colonel Jcfferies.
The Battalion FFR went well. We were inspected by our
DDOS, Brigadier P. G, Macdonald, who toured the whole
Battalion, which is no mean feat considering the Battalion
covers the majority of the Corps area in BAOR, As a result
of his visit, the Commanding Officer gave the Battalion a day's
holiday. It was unfortunate that that was the day Active Edge
was called. It did ensure everybody was on hand to watch the
final of the George Pattison Memorial Trophy Football match,
The match was played between 49 RP Company and 43 RP
Company. 49 won 5-0, assisted by Private Marson of 43 Com-
pany, who is now in the process of an inter Company transfer.
Congratulations are in order to our Basketball team which
won the RAOC BAOR Basketball Championship. Congratula-
tions also to Lance Corporal Walton who has recently taken the
W i n nets of the RAOC (BAOR)
Basketball C ompetition.
matrimonial plunge. Private Hall of MT is shortly to follow
his footsteps.
We welcome back Major Chapman from his
tour in Northern Ireland. Congratulations also to Major Brad-
ley on an excellent production of * Move over Mrs Markham *
in the local theatre. He further demonstrated his prowess by
the excellence of his Jazz Combo in our Officers Mess Saturday
Night!
We say farewell to WO I Ward, Corporal Skerritt. Lance
Corporals Cole, Rowell, Ross, Stewart, and Privates Cutler,
Raw, Fosberry, Snaith, Jones, Parkes, Twitty. We welcome
Corporals Nonis and Robinson, and Privates Williams, Adams,
Hart, McManus, Harvey, Tiffany, Knight, Lawrence, Tindall
and Brown.
Corps Troops Central
HEADQUARTERS
RAOC
THE month has seen a change in Commanding Officers, Lieu-
tenant Colonel Peter Clayton has departed for the Bicester
haven (something to do with computers) and we all wish him
every success in his new appointment.
Lieutenant Colonel
David Man has assumed the mantle of C R A O C We hope that
he enjoys his stay with us. No doubt influenced by Colonel
David the ' in " drink at the Mess is a Harvey Wallbanger.
From the first of the month we have reluctantly severed con-
nections with our two Barrack Charges at Bielefeld and
Sennelager. It's to do with this restructuring business. The
ABO is very peeved.
STORES SECT/ON 1 FIELD
WORKSHOP
NOW that the ARU is over and done with the Section has
settled back: to its normal routine. The Stores and MT side
had an excellent report and we all received a whole day off
for our efforts.
On the sporting side. Lance Corporal Mick Wilson, Privates
Pratt, Murphy, Jukes and Jackson went on a twenty two mile
run from Hermanns Denkmal to Sparrenburg. Later this week
Mick Wilson, Poggo Pratt and Spud Murphy will be at it again,
this time a one hundred mile course is the target, and will be
run over a four day period.
Private Chris Bowles, Lance Corporals Logan and Mick
Wilson are in the Unit team for the Rothmans six-a-side Soccer
competition.
After a terrifying experience with Private Spud Murphy,
Corporal Graham Wright has said he is giving up Driving
Training.
A rumour has been going round that we will be going over
an Assault Course shortly and this brought a few mutters of
protest from the loyal workers of the Section, and one person
was heard to have said: "Climbing into the cab of a ten
tonner was bad enough!! !"
Private Chris Bowles and Spud Murphy received the good
news that they will be leaving three months earlier than expected
and to our amazement we actually saw Spud smile! ! !
Finally, our congratulations to Paul Logan who has just
married, we wish him and his wife every happiness. Having
just passed his EPC he's had a good month.
STORES PLATOON 71 AIRCRAFT
WORKSHOP
THIS month has seen a considerable quietening of the post-
amalgamation panic, and things are slowly returning to a steadier
pace.
Our Technicians Visit and the six monthly * Crash-out *
co-incided this year and the visiting Officers saw a somewhat
depleted
stores Platoon as most members of the Unit were
1
playing soldiers/ Never the less the visit went well (cough,
cough), and an evening out was arranged to celebrate.
There isn't, unfortunately, a great deal to report on the
sporting field this month. The Platoon is still supplying a large
percentage of the Workshop Soccer team, but this figure is to be
reduced by two for the next fortnight as Corporal Duncan
Morley and Private Alex Crawford both received superficial leg
injuries in the match against 661 Squadron. Duncan was last
seen blowing the dust from his shin-pads. Sergeant ' Jonah *
Jones and Lance Corporal Ivan Sangster, the Unit's most
successful athletes last season, are already on their starting
blocks for the coming season (providing the weather improves),
We have now said our farewells to W 2 Jim Kelly who
has left to spend his last six months in the Army at Chilwell
prior to returning to civilian life. We welcome WOl * Chuck '
Roberts from Kineton and Corporal Roy Bailie from Celle.
We also congratulate Sergeant Jones on his substantive pro-
motion.
