10 THE GAZETTE, Units previously under command and now
transferred to 2 Division are 87 Supply Depot and Barrack
Services Munster and Osnabruck. Barrack Services Sennelager
have been transferred in from Corps Troops Central,
Their
first contribution under new management appears in this issue.
The RAOC Association Dortmund Branch Annual General
Meeting was held on Lhe Slh March in the ' Rickshaw Room.'
Most units were represented and a new committee elected.
T^ere were, of course, those who figured that the CRAOC
h J selected the committee beforehand anyway.
The AOWO has been heard singing in the corridor We
are not sure whether this is due to his work load being reduced
perhaps, on restructuring* or as Secretary of the RAOC
Association, he is practising to give us a song when we trip
down the Rhine next month. Whatever the reason one is a
little hesitant to ask what the song or the words were.
Corporal Joe Daly was fortunate enough to find himself in
Belgium during Exercise Wintex. He was so exhausted at the
end that he did not realise he was on two weeks leave at the
end of the exercise. Now that's devotion to duty!
We must this month mention Lance Corporal Broughton, who,
b> the time this is published will be a civilian. He is purchasing his
discharge locally and settling in Germany,
We would like
to wish him and his family the very best of good fortune
for the future. We hope that he will call in to see us from
time to time whilst driving through Dortmund.
Congratulations are in order to Angela, our ABO's Clerk,
who is to be married. (She kept this a close secret; it happened
to leak out the other day! you know how well women keep
secrets!!) We wish her every happiness for the future.
86 SUPPLY DEPOT
SINCE our last notes we have lost our CQMS r Staff Sergeant
Dougie Maclean, to 6 Field Force Ordnance Company at
Aldershot and our Unit butcher, Sergeant Bill Bovenizer to
UNFICYP. Not only are we wondering how Bill managed to
get a posting to the elite band of UN/RAOC soldiers, but to
follow it with a two and a half year tour with RAOC Cyprus
must be something of a record. Still, he always did believe
in 'Leprechauns!' Someone who will need the Leprechauns on
his side in the near future is our 21C Captain John Sustins,
"ho has just received news of a six month tour in Northern
Ireland.
Oh well, some people have all the luck! On the
arrivals board we extend a very warm welcome to our new
CQMS, Staff Sergeant Brian Patchitt from 19 OFP and our
new butcher, Sergeant Mick Paling from Cyprus.
We eventually managed to fit in our return games evening
with the RMP Dortmund. Although we nearly won 15-13 we
didn't go down without a fight, in fact just the opposite—we
made a big splash and won the boat race hands {or should I
say glasses) down. Just after midnight the RMP decided to get
ovt their Road Safety Display Go-Karts and challenge us to
•J niniature ' monza' around Suffolk Barracks. One could only
describe the scene as something like Dougals Magic Round-
about!
On to a more serious note, 25 Supply Platoon RAOC (V)
will soon be with us for two weeks annual training. No doubt
they will have ample opportunity to do some sightseeing while
they are here and sample the local brews, but as last years
visitors will vouch, they will have to work hard for their just
rewards.
Corporal Barry Humphrey, our orderly room Corporal,
11
:is accidentally volunteered for Exercise Wintex and spent a
; -v days in the field with HQ 1 (BR) Corps Ordnance Branch
us clerical support. If anything, it gave him the opportunity to
get his new fifty eight pattern webbing grubby!
Finally, congratulations to Staff Sergeant Brian Patchitt and
Sergeant Norman Eldridge on reaching the semi-finals of the
RAOC Table Tennis Pairs Championships.
STORES SECTION 61 STATION
WORKSHOP
AT the end of February the Stores Section bid farewell to
Willie Baumjohann. Willie has been employed by RAOC within
v- -desdale Barracks for over twenty five years. A suitable
K-:irty in the German fashion, was "organised by the staff of
the Stores Section,
We welcome, as one of our Cell Clerks, Mr Ian Beaumont,
who is now starting to master the Tertiary Depot System.
BARRACK SERVICES SENNELAGER
THE 1st April heralded our 'restructuring move* when we
passed from Command of CRAOC Corps Troops Central to
Command of Corps Troops West. With the changeover o£
CRAOCs in Corps Troops Central taking place during the same
week we achieved the distinction of having three Commanding
Officers in one week.
Even in these days of ' all change *
this could well be a record!
Fortress Headquarters Gibraltar
AFTER an absence of some months from THE GAZETTE, we
have much pleasure in reappearing. Over the past six months
our Staff Clerk element has certainly been earning their coppers.
Due to recent cuts we have lost our Superintending Clerk post
and the clerical support is now headed by W02 Malcolm Wilde
in his new capacity of Chief Clerk FHQ and G Branch. We have
also felt the effects of a civilian clerical strike over the past
few months which has meant W02 Malcolm Wilde, Staff
Sergeant George Ottley, Corporal Jim O 1 Bryan, Sergeant Ron
White and Private Roy Bingham providing all the clerking in
Headquarters. Everyone now knows the real meaning of burn-
ing the midnight oil! Sergeant Ron White has now left us and
we welcome Sergeant Andy Bale in his place. His collection of
Sergeants Mess raffle prizes since arriving here may have some-
thing to do with his being allocated a married quarter fairly
early (for Gibraltar) in order to store them. He is definitely a
man to watch at Christmas draw time. Still on the subject of
the Sergeants Mess, our Chief Clerk AQ Staff Sergeant George
Ottley, has just completed a very successful three months as
PEC which culminated in a Medieval Night being very much
enjoyed by all members who attended. George was last seen
disappearing down Main Street with a maiden over each
shoulder,
Our Joint Services Sub Aqua Diving Centre was officially
opened by the VQMG, Major General Maugham, during his
recent visit. A great deal of credit must go to our FOWO, WOl
Marc Moody, for his sterling efforts in getting the Centre up
to its present high standard.
Our OC, Major Alan Ross, is in the UK at the moment
doing a whistle stop tour of places too numerous to mention, on
business of course. Our only Private soldier, Roy Bingham,
recently left us for Northern Ireland and has been replaced by
Private Sean Gavin who joins us from Deepcut
Our Branch of the Association is now well and truly
established.

CONGRATULATIONS
t o
Forces Football team which
d e d , during the course of
mcm
league in a most convincing
manner. The team has played
extremely well throughout the season and the final statistics
were: Played twenty, won eighteen, drawn one, lost one, goals
for one hundred and three* goals against nineteen, points thirty
seven.
Prior to the Major Units Cup Final it was decided that a
match would be played between the Minor Units Division 1
winners (Composite Ordnance Depot) and ourselves.
This
especially pleased WOl Mick Garrod and W 2 Malcolm
Edwards who were 'transferred' from the Depot team to the
Headquarters British Forces team last season.
The Com-
posite Ordnance Depot team lost two players to a rugby tour
but to compensate borrowed two from 50 Command Work-
shop Stores Section. Should they have been renamed Kowloon
select?
On a very hot and humid day the match was a little dis-
appointing in the standard of play, but no one was booked
or sent off and Headquarters British Forces were the winners
by 2-0. To rub salt into the Depot's wounds the goals were
scored by Mick Garrod and Malcolm Edwards.
Congratulations to Headquarters British Forces and com-
miserations to WOl Hugh Penman and the Command Ord-
nance Depot team. Headquarters British Forces also finished
second in the annual referee's Fair Play and Sportsmanship
award,
