CORPS HOCKEY—AN E N D OF S E A S O N REPORT
ONCE again the Corps Hockey team has completed a very
successful season, in which eighteen fixtures were played, result-
ing in thirteen wins, three draws, and two lost. The team
scored sixty five goals and conceded twenty two, Ihe main goal
scorers being Sergeant G, R. Fergusson, twenty one goals,
Corporal P. Rosser thirteen goals, Staff Sergeant G. R, Bailey
seven goals; in addition twelve other members of the team
scored on various occasions. It is of interest to note that a
total of thirty players have represented the Corps this season
of which fifteen have their names on the score sheet.
Corps successes are semi-finalists in the Corps Outdoor
Championship, finalists in the Corps Indoor Championship and
Combined Services Indoor Champions. In the final match of
the season, winners of the Green ford Urn.
The annual match between REME,/RAOC, the Greenford
Urn, took place at Bordon, the Corps being the holders of the
Urn for 1974/75/76. TTiis match seems to bring out the best
of both teams and remains one of the hardest of the season.
The Corps, after strong pressure, scored a well taken goal by
_
Corporal Rosser late in the first half. In the second half the
REME pressed strongly but were repulsed by a tight defence,
after the substitute Major D. Hourahane came on, the Corps
pressed strongly down the right wing and Major Hourahane
scored a fine goal from a difficult angle. The Corps won the
match 2-0 so retaining the trophy for the fourth year running.
The Greenford Urn has been played for twenty eight times
and REME have won thirteen times, RAOC eleven with four
drawn matches, although possession of the Urn ie currently
fourteen each due to the holding team retaining the trophy on a
drawn result.
Members of the Corps team who have played regularly
in Army Sides are T Sergeant Fergusson the current Army Centre
Forward and Corporal Rosser who is a member of the Army
under twenty one side.
The Annual General Meeting and Corps Hockey Trials will
be held on 27th and 28th September. A letter will be circulated
in July and Officers in charge of Unit Hockey will be asked to
encourage as many good players as possible to attend.
