Transcription A further scries of ' D o g and Stick" walks are under way
and the location for this month's walk is the Peak District near
Matlock,
We arc having problems keeping Colonel Reggie
Edwards in check, as he has just returned fresh from his ninety
five mile walk from end to end of Hadrians Wall, which he
covered in five days.
Arrivals and departures are many.
We must however,
mention WOl Cliff Martin who retires this month, complete
with rolled umbrella. Planning Branch will never recover from
this body blow!

THE Unit Sports Day was held on the fourth of May, Com-
petition was keen, and the result of the Inter Company Athletic
Cup was in doubt until the last event. The Royal Pioneer Corps
eventually ran out as worthy winners. The Victor Ludorum
Cup was won by Lance Corporal Phil Hussey who won the
100m, 200m and the Long Jump.
A Canoe team entered the South East District Canoe Cham-
pionships on 21st May. Captain John Robertson achieved second
place in the Intermediate Slalom with Lance Corporal Phil
Hussey eighth. They could have won the doubles racing event,
had they started with everyone else and not sat in the middle
of the river sunbathing awaiting starters orders!
After many weeks of training and frequent soakings on the
ranges, CAD Bramley entered the Jubilee Year RAOC Skill-at-
Arms Meeting with more hope than the previous year. Successes
had already been achieved in the Non-Central Match with the
Mulcahy Shield runners up position, and two of the team,
Sergeants Wheeler and King, had paired with Mrs Shephard and
Mrs Emmett to win the Baker Cup Division 2 UK Small Bore
Title.
A high standard of shooting was improved by the
coaching skills of Captain John Fox and Sergeant Dick Wheeler.
After a quiet and wet start to the highlight of the Corps shoot-
ing season, improvements ran concurrent with the rising standards
of the food provided by the ACC field cooking. The collective
effort made by all members of the team resulted in the winning
of thirty nine medals of which Corporal Maslem had a personal
total of NINE.
The following results were achieved with the
accolade of being Inter Unit Champions for Jubilee Year:
Winners: 1. SMG Team Cup: 2. The Barrett Cup (Officers
Individual Rifle) Captain Fox; 3, The Nockles Cup (WOs/
Sergeants Individual Rifle) Sergeant W r heeler: 4. The Bicester
Trophy (Individual Aggregate Rifle); 5, Bramley Bowl (SMG
Individual) Sergeant Wheeler; 6, Team Tile Cup (Falling Plate);
7, Pusan Trophy (Unit Team Championship).
Runners up:
I. Donnington Cup (Inter Unit Team Rifle Match); 2, Rank
and File Team Cup; 3. Battersby Cup (Team Snapshooting);
4, Mulcahy Shield (Non Central).
The following week (16th to 20th May) the team participa-
ted at the SEDSAM and continued their successes by winning
the Warrant Officers /Sergeants SMG Trophy, the Falling Plate
Trophy, nine tankards and spoons—but above all, a qualifying
place at Bisley, Due credit must be given to the unbeaten
RAOC and SEDSAM Falling Plate team of Sergeants Wheeler
and King, Corporal Maslem and Lance Corporal Cassidy.
Finally this month we say farewell to WOs2 Fletcher and
Garrett BEM, and Private Rowlands. Also we say farewell to
Sergeant Wakely, Lance Corporal Foster, Privates Allen and
Sayer on their discharge. We welcome Sergeant Ferry and
Private Taylor.
Congratulations go to Lance Corporal Peter Gower and
his wife Karen Joan on the birth of their son born on 17th
May, also congratulations to Raymond Skekel on his pro-
motion to Sergeant.

HEADQUARTERS
MAJOR GENERAL CALLAN visited Headquarters and Vehicle
Depot Ashchurch on 11th May. His programme was full, in-
cluding briefings, meeting a great number of the staff and tour-
ing the depot and station area. At the same time Mrs Callan
was meeting the wives of the Station at a coffee morning
arranged by Mrs Blakemore.
The following day the rabbits of the golf world—the CAD/
CVD combined team met the goliaths in the Base Organisation
Cup at the Wrekin Golf Club, and managed to win the cup.
