Transcription and head of our Fuel and Light Section, and Herr Hans-
Giinter Kuhn, ledger clerk in Barrack Slore I. Our congratula-
tions to them both on their long and devoted service to the
British Forces in Germany. Their knowledge and experience
has been invaluable to a succession of Barrack Oilicers.
Our Assistant Barrack Officer in Hameln, Captain Maurice
Palmer has formed and captained the 35 Engineer Regiment Bad-
minton team and led them to success, recently winning the 4
Division Inter-Unit Badminton Championships and then going
on to become runners-up in the BAOR Championships in
Bielefeld. Mrs Palmer also made news on 16th April, represent-
ing the Hameln Civilian Badminton Club, when with her
German partner, she won the Hannover Area mixed doubles
title. We wish them even greater success in the next season.
STORES SECTION
28 AMPHIBIOUS ENGINEER REGIMENT WORKSHOP
WE heard a rumour that the Super Stores at Hameln had been
disbanded so we thought we would let the world know we are
alive and kicking.
Talking of kicking, Corporal Terry McGaghey and Private
Brian Low, both took their place in the Workshop Football
learn which got through to the semi-final of the Craftsmans
Cup, Brian Low still insists he was sent to Northern Ireland
because they lost
Congratulations go out to Private Gary Head and his wife
on the birth of their daughter. Oh yes, Lance Corporal * Nobby*
Clark and Private Tony Welland send their regards to Lance
Corporal Alan Hughes. He has had more time off than anyone
else in the Unit and the Workshop Sergeant Major thinks he
is attached to attached to att
well you know what I
mean.
We have been out on the normal exercises. Staff Sergeant
Dave Marsh is still complaining that when he drives the office
truck, he gets a draught up his right leg! (He should be so
lucky!). Corporal Dave Gartside has got the only ten tonner in
BAOR with fitted carpets, television, bed and cooker. He can't
get planning permission for the sink. l Talking of ten tonners,
one of our newer arrivals, Private Eddy * Eddison, says if
anyone requires lessons on how to get bogged in, down to
axles, he is free when everyone else is on exercise.
Lance Corporal Brian Crago has just spent a couple of
weeks in bed with mumps, very dodgy at his time of life.
Sergeant Bill Hall lives quite near to Brian Crago; he has
asked for a move of quarter.
There is only one person not mentioned and that is Corporal
Peter * Squeaky' Berrett who has transferred to the Corps from
the Intelligence Corps,
Ordnance Services Berlin
OUR last Unit notes were written almost one year ago, our
size and role has not changed despite the present round of re-
structuring. To all those who have departed we wish farewell
and to the following new members 'welcome.'

Cobourne, ATO Captain Roger Bicknell, OIC Stores and
Vehicles Captain David Patterson, Supply Depot Superintendent

Clerk Corporal Les Colvill, Orderly Room Clerk Lance Corporal

The first few months of 1977 have been noteworthy for
the number and variety of visitors to the Unit. In February
the Director of Ordnance Services BAOR, Brigadier Crawley,
stayed with us for four days, during which time he toured all
departments meeting the military and civilian staff. On the
17th February, he presented the Long Service and Good Con-
duct medal to Sergeant Sammy Kirk in the Alexander Barracks
Sergeants Mess. The 23rd February found us hosting a party
of American Officers and Senior NCO's from the US Supplies
Organisation in Berlin. It was noticeable from the comments
made as we toured the installations, how very similar our pro-
cedures were and that they were also having financial restrictions
to cope with.
Richard Astbury of BFBS Berlin carried out an outside
broadcast on our Supply Depot and Computer Installation for
the weekly * In on Berlin ' Show. This was good Public Relations
for our FRIS (Families Ration Issue Section) and the boffins
in ADPL
In March, the Representative Colonel Commandant, Major
General Cornock, made a flying visit to Berlin. During this
tour he presented the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal
to the Field Ordnance Warrant Officer, WOl Paul Taylor.
Brigadier Crawley presents the Long Service and Good Conduct
Medal to Sergeant Kirk.
Our sportsmen continue to pursue a diversity of activities
with mixed success, the Ordnance REME Football team un-
fortunately failed to maintain their position, as Minor Unit
League Champions. This loss was compensated by the Alexander
Barracks Sergeants Mess team under the lively leadership of
Conductors John Bellamy and Maurice Almond who were
runners up in the Force Sergeants Mess League.
Congratulations also go to the Unit Squash team who had
a good season by finishing in third position in the Minor Units
League. W02 John Kearney, a stalwart member of the Berlin
Golf Club, travelled to Bruggen in March and was successful
in winning the Individual Scratch Cup at the RAOC BAOR
Spring meeting.
A team, consisting
of Officers and Soldiers, took part in the
1
' Peoples Walk sponsored by the Berlin Postal Services Sports
Club at Kladow. They claim to have been the first military
team to complete the course? There is a rumour going round
that this success was mainly due to their lack of map read-
ing skill rather than their walking prowess.
An Alexander Barracks Shooting team, consisting of mem-
bers from Ordnance Services, 62 Transport and Movement
Squadron and 14 Field Workshop, entered the Berlin Field
Force Skill at Arms meeting and were highly successful in
winning the Minor Unit Championship. The enthusiasm shown
by the Officers, particularly in the Unit Pistol team, compensated
for their lack of skill!
