S ' r \ F F SERGEANT ROYKETGHTLEY, receives the British
E pire Medal from The Vice Chief of the General Staff, Lieu-
tenant General Sir William Scotter, at a ceremony held in the
Ministry of Defence.
Staff Keightley is the Chief Clerk of Defence Secretariat 6
—a MOD Central Staffs Division—a post he has held since
leaving SHAPE in November last year. It was for his work as
a Section Chief Clerk in the multi-national Logistics and
Armaments Division of SHAPE that he was awarded the BEM
in the last New Years Honours List.
Also present at the ceremony, and for a celebratory glass
o.' wine subsequently, were the Assistant Under Secretary
U.-vMieral Staff), Mr Jolyon Dromgoole, and over twenty mem-
bers of the military and civilian staffs of Defence Secretariats 6
and 7.
Since returning to UK. Staff Keightley has joined the
merry band of MOD weekend commuters, living in * digs' in
London during the week and travelling at weekends to Lincoln-
shire where he and his wife, Janet, have recently invested in
their own home in Grantham.

FOURTEEN finalists were found from a series of competitions
between ranks and Corps within Kinnegar and the Sub-Depots.
There were four compulsory events — weapon handling,
assault course, pistol shooting and gym exercises plus any six
from the following eight: shot, cycling, basketball, swimming,
tennis, weight lifting, football and steeplechase.
With six events each day the competitors worked non-
stop and maintained a very high standard of fitness—pure deter-
mination and sportsmanship.
A good weekend's sport was rounded off with the first six
receiving prizes from the Commanding Officer. Lieutenant

Ridley, 48; Private Cook, 35.5; Captain Johnstone, 25 ; Private
Denman, 22; Corporal Thomas, 20; Sergeant Murray, 19;

Lane, 10; Corporal Diskin, 8; Sergeant Abrams, 5; Lance
Corporal Bayley, 4 : Sergeant Laing. nil.
