Working * in the background * of Woolwich, AC A is not ,, :n mentioned but next time you took for a NSN and associated ,r i:I and find it fin the correct catalogue), just think of the involved in putting it there, Training Centre TRAINING BATTALION AND DEPOT THE month brought our first visit from the new GOC South East District. During his tour of the Unit he saw a Junior NCO Cadre Course on weapon training and visited Gibraltar platoon on the indoor range. Gibraltar Platoon passed out on 3rd June after inspection r-v Lieutenant Colonel Day the SOI Training Centre. On this ,-vision the music was provided by the REME Staff Band to v.-iiom we are indebted for a very professional display. The weekend 17th/19th June was nominated as the Train- ing Centre Jubilee Weekend and Friday 17th was the Training Battalion and Depot evening, but our planned Beating of Retreat was rained off. Our thanks to RSM Miller and the Sergeants Mess Members for a most enjoyable drinks party prior to the All Ranks Jubilee Ball. The Ball with the raffle, was a most successful affair due to the excellent preparatory work and support of Unit members. Congratulations to the athletics team on their successes in Headquarters Director Army Air Corps # ADOS (AIR) THE time has come again for ADOS Branch to report on the last couple of months. L i e u t e n a n t C o l o n e l D a v i d Witting (ADOS) and Major Marie Lacy (DADOS 1) have finished their lours as PMC and entertainments member on the Mess Committee leaving behind them a Work Study Report that has generated a considerable amount of discussion with- in the AAC. Captain Paul Carter of the Stores Section of 70 Aircraft Workshop was the Mess Secretary at the same time and occasionally mur- murings were heard of an RAOC takeover of the AAC Mess, We were sad to lose W 2 Bill Kiernan who, having joined us in December from Oman, decided that as his twenty two years were up he would leave and proceed back to the Sultanate on a splendid contract. W 2 Bill Beaton joined us from Celle in February and has now settled down on the pro- gression cell looking after the Gazelle and its ; clutches.' WOl Bill Ramsey has recently arrived from Nepal to become Staff Assistant and has brought with him the traditional * Gurkha Grin/ t*e Travers Clarke and especially to Private Green of Training <" :;mpany on his selection for the Army Athletics Team- United Kingdom Land Forces # ORDNANCE BRANCH BAD weather is a misery in any language. A product of this unsocial state is that it tends to restrict the activities of those fortunate people normally engaged in swanning (Sorry: liaison) or sporting events —they become office-bound and in frustra- tion, expend their surplus energy in the production of a flood of paper verbiage most of which appears to be directed to this Headquarters. Happily we are in good strength at the moment (numerically if not mentally), to handle this paper mountain because we are entertaining our District CRAOCs to the bi-annual conference, By the time these notes appear in print the new Chief Ordnance Officer, Brigadier C W. Smith, should be firmly in the seat. This should go a long way to discount those rumours •:*at Wiltshire is all Ham and a mile wide. The only events of any note lately have been those con- nected with the Silver Jubilee celebrations. These have been many, varied and all very successful. The ' Harnham Patch ' provided a barbeque, a disco and a cocktail party. Our representatives at those particular functions, Bill Stark and John Evans, were reported as being gently afloat on Champagne/ Pimms Punch and going down river at 0200 hours on the night, which some might say also proves that whilst Wiltshire may not be over-burdened with Ham the River Avon carries its share. The only jarring note throughout these affairs was the weather,— : 'iich is where we came in. Postings-irt: W 2 Allan Braithwaite to Ordnance Branch vice WO I John Rimmer. HEADQUARTERS THE leave season is upon us once more and after Exercise Wintex the Headquarters appears to have settled down again to its normal functions. , Although the Corps element of the Headquarters does not appear in Her Majesty's Birthday Honours List, a veritable plethora of Silver Jubilee Medals has showered upon us! At a o;remony held in the Headquarters on 9th June, WOl Reg ^niilips, W 2 John Grigsby, Staff Sergeant Allan Stanistreet and Sergeant Terry Houghton all received the medal. The two last named have had a good year so far as they are both on the list of provisional selections for promotion, together with WOs2 George Dey and Pete Morris, Terry Houghton has also received his posting order to MOD in September. We have not been idle in the regimental field and Corporals Steve Evans and Jim Wilde have both recently passed an RPC I 77 course. Before ending these notes, mention should be made of WOl -y-? Phillips' contributions over the last four years to TH E t doubtedly preciated However, \ZETTE notes. by succour maintain your His is present the at assistance high hand correspondent standard from during his set successor, this by and time Reg. will who is be much will missed. un- ap- Photo Staff Sergeant P. P. R t Lamprey Something of a juggling act Corporal Ruth Bourner and Mrs Pat Harrison are jusl about to leave us. We wish them well and thank them for all the diligent work that they have undertaken. We welcome Corporal Alma Snooks who has just joined from the Centre. Both Major David English (DADOS 2) and Mrs Mary Holland have had their legs in piaster, and both have at last returned to the land of no crutches or walking sticks, Let us hope that neither repeat their experiences because the con- tinual ' clump click' was driving us all mad. At last we can report that the Lynx Intensive Flying Trials Unit is established and that whilst visiting Westlands at Yeovil in middle May ADOS and his party actually saw the first two Army aircraft for Middle Wallop, and fine handsome cabs they were. (At the price—they should be!). On the sporting scene our congratulations go to Major Mark Lacy who very temporarily went sport mad and led the Army Air Corps Centre three man fencing team to the Army finals in Aldershot where it came second, beaten by Cambridge University OTC. In the individual Army Sabre Championships he was placed eighth. — |
