Transcription up the ladder to become Stores Officer. He also served in the
HIJ from ]940 to 1946 and saw service in Europe, being
wounded in Germany, At a presentation ceremony Ray received
among other gifts an engraved tankard as recognition of his
years of service. We wish Ray and his wife many years of
happy retirement
Congratulations to Colonel R. C. Manders on his appoint-
ment as Honorary Colonel RAOC (Volunteers) Independent
Units, Eastern Region, and to W02 Derek Gill, Chief Clerk
Ordnance Branch on his award of the Long Service and Good
Conduct Medal.
At the time of going to press we are sorry to report that
the CRAOC Colonel Wisdom has been admitted to hospital,
we trust he will soon be back to normal health. Welcome to
Lieutenant Colonel R, E. G. Cooley (Retd), who joins the
Branch as DADOS Accommodation Services).
South East District
THIS month we have seen the departure
of Major Mark McLellan for his Resettle-
ment Course. He re-appears briefly at
the end of July to hand over to Major
G. Holt.
The DOWO, SSM Fred Maskery,
has also departed for I Division and we
wish him all the best with his LOA. It
now rests on me to persuade his relief
SSM Bill Watson-Varney that GAZETTE
notes are a DOWO's lot!
We welcome our new Chief Clerk, SQMS Alan Carroll,
who is missing the mountains of Nepal. Paper mountains are
no compensation.
t-z&:
who has only been here since February, is a very popular
man—when he is absent from the office and all the clerks who
he normally keeps under lock and key are released!
Having mentioned " Fairyland,' we now move to the real
world of AQ, led by W02 Bob Edge. On the 'A 1 side we
have, occasionally, Sergeant Mike Turner-Sterling, and Corporal
Jim Gould, The latter having been posted to Rheindahlen finds
his job is in Bielefeld—another long range commuter On the
*Q' side we find, in between courses, Sergeant Mike Dawson
with Lance Corporals Taff Humphreys and Steve Farrow.
Steve was sent to Sardinia with Private ' Fozzie' Walker to
balance the team.
Last, but not least, the guy who is always forgotten, Sergeant
Jim Reynolds the PA to the GOC. Only forgotten because he
is never seen, people tend Not to drop into his office for tea!
We bid farewell to that explosive ace—in more ways than
one—W02 R. R. P, (Rip) Kirby and wish him and family,
every success in civilian life.

APOLOGIES for no notes last month but was due to pressure
of work and absence of the Unit during a particularly busy
period.
Covering the two months period briefly, mention must first
be made of the successful TA week-end sponsored by Head-
quarters East District, where the OFP deployed in the field to
show the visiting TA Officers from all over the UK what a Field
Force OFP was like in the field. Panic as usual ensued until all
was in order, at least three minutes before the visit. The new
Second in Command Captain Mike Davison, after covering the
circuit for the tenth time, on foot, was heard to remark *£
thought they gave the Second in Command a Land Rover for
this.* This event was quickly followed by the Eastern District Small
Arms Meeting where the Unit team comprised of Captain Mike
Davison, Lieutenant Harry North, Second Lieutenant Russell
Abson, Sergeants Joe Dickinson and Del Carey, Lance Corporals
Mick Ogden and Tony Shoulders, Privates Punchy Giles and
Muppet Howie, kept the Unit flag flying but unfortunately with-
out too much to show for their efforts due, one was led to
believe, to ' bad ammunition'; this with an ATO as team cap-
tain ! Whilst all this was going on the AO Captain Charles Mc-
Guigan and the Chief Clerk Staff Sergeant Doug Boshier were
trying to organise a Unit move to the Isle of Man for the

HEADQUARTERS
ALL Headquarters RAOC are * out and
about' in the Isle of Man doing ad-
venture training. A small rear party of
stalwarts only, remains.
Chief Clerk
Derek Redpath tried very hard to ensure
fitness by reporting sick every morning
for a week before they went!
The pressure of work has now dropped
considerably in G Branch pending the future move to BAOR.
We now have a more browned off than usual clerk in the office
as Corporal
Ron Damen has just returned from Majorca.
Private v Fozzie' Walker was supposed to have had a good
time in Sardinia but rumours have it he seemed to chunter
as much as Corporal Stoddart (which we all thought was im-
possible!). Private Steve Crowhurst has started fitness train-
ing and he is doing quite well up the hills with the help of the
Chief Clerk's boot. Chief Clerk Staff Sergeant Alan Jensen,
