Wulfen Station A warm welcome this month to Major Dexter, W02 ^ hriman, Sergeants Patlon and Barraclough RAPC, Privates r = MTian, Green and Shaw. ; arewcll to Captain Triggs, Staff Sergeant Qckenden, Sergeants v VL-IIS and Gardner RAPC, Lance Corporals Hadley, Wsidowson and Parkinson. HEADQUARTERS THE Station has just been through a very busy period. The Station athletics meeting took place between 154 FAD, 7 GM and CVC. A very good after- noon of athletics was crowned by the outcome of the meeting being decided on the very last race, despite Sergeant Dave Towers-Clark finishing well ahead of his rivals in the 5000 metres, Corporal Dave Cotterill gained a point for 154 FAD, thus ensuring that 154 FAD won the match, by one point from 7 GM with CVC a very good third. Staying with athletics, the Station team entered the Rhine Area Minor Units and with a good all round team performance won. STORES SUB-DEPOT DVLMEN THE Dulmen epistle opens this month with a success story which for once is not of a sporting nature (neither is it of an unsporting nature). It is of course the award of the Order of the British Empire to Lieutenant Colonel R. K. Owen, the Commanding Officer, in the Queen's Birthday Jubilee honours list. Dulmen may have had a rather short life span when com- p...-ed with other Ordnance Depots (indeed several are prized by uw National Trust), but Colonel Owen has done a great deal to put the place on the map. technically and sportingly. The whole Depot is delighted and offers hearty congratulations. The achievement is all the more remarkable when it is considered that the COs award is the same as that of Liverpool manager Mr Bob Paisley. To my knowledge Dulmen have never won the European Cup or even the League Championship (although they did manage a home draw against a local field ambulance last season). The announcement of the birthday honours list coincided \\-.-:h the Sergeants Mess Summer Ball, which again was an excel- l:..[ evening. The detailed organisation was credit to the Ball committee under the chairmanship of WOl Manders (who aged considerably with the experience). Sporting honours this month go again to the tug-of-war (lightweight) team who gave an excellent performance in the BAOR championships, the 15 COD Triangular Athletics and the Travers Clarke (BAOR)- The team has really tried and trained hard this season. The athletics team did well in getting through to the final of the BAOR (minor units) championships, and an individual rontion must go to Sergeant Henson for achieving the Victor Ludorum at the 15 COD Triangular meeting. Finally the Dulmen fishing club have been * angling' for a mention after winning a match against a local club Petri Heil from Hattern—thanks to a carefully concealed tin of pilchards! The Wulfen Station athletics team. Our picture shows: Back row: Sergeant ' N o d d y ' Nagle, Staff Sergeant John Simpson, Sergeant Tony Hammond, Corporal Dave Cotterill, Corporal Keith Tomlinson, Lance Corporal Mick Harrow. Front row: Captain Paul Henwood, Private Phil Dawber, Corporal Denny Labdon, Sergeant Dave Towers-Clark, Corporal Tony Leech and Private Lee Ramsey. The team now go forward to the BAOR finals at Sennelager. A Station team took part in the Rhine Army SkiU-at- Arms Meeting at Haltern. In addition to our team we also hosted many of the competitors for the meeting. Once again, through a good all round performance, the Station won the Minor Units Skill-at-Arms, The team comprised: Company Sergeant Major Brian Hosbard, Staff Sergeants Alan Wrotch- ford, Pete Wightman, Sergeants Steve Machin, Ian Davis, Corporals Gordon Turner, Brian Hull and Peter Lynch. The Silver Jubilee Celebrations are in full swing. Our School held a street party and on the following day our Wives Club held a Jubilee Fete. A wide variety of stalls in- cluded a Silver Stall, Cake Stall, Handicraft, Bottle and Book Stall Among the attractions were pony rides, noddy train, miniature railway, coconut shy, wellie wanging range and rifle range, to name but a few, Our second photograph shows Lieutenant Colonel Hotting and Herr Willy Overfeld on the occasion of Herr Overfeld's retirement as Civil Labour Manager after twenty years in the Depot. Many of Willy's friends were at the party to mark his retirement and he received gifts from military and civilian departments to mark his many years of devoted and loyal service. All Wulfenites, past and present, wish him and his wife good health and happiness in their retirement. 154 FORWARD AMMUNITION DEPOT STAFF SERGEANT KEN PRICE, RAPC (our Estate Warden) took a small party consisting of Privates ' Spud * Saunders and Bob Da vies on a hill walking exercise in Bavaria. They stayed at the RMP Ski Hut in Gunzestiedsage. The hills climbed varied from the Stuiben at 1750 metres to the Mittle- berg at 1249 metres* They all returned looking fitter, and as far as Ken was concerned, slimmer. Lieutenant Colonel Botring says farewell to Herr W i l l y Overfeld the W u l f e n Civil Labour Manager. 91 |
