ORDNANCE BRANCH
TO our new Chief, Brigadier Charles Smith,
we give a warm welcome. He has already
started seeing his wide UKLF parish with
a series of visits to RD Hereford, Thatcham
and to 10 Ordnance Support Battalion.
To our ex Chief Fire Adviser, Gordon
Mitchell, go our hearty congratulations on
his recent elevation to Chief Fire Service
Officer (AD). Also that his long theologi-
cal training for many years has now
resulted in his ordination as a Deacon, which took place in
Salisbury Cathedral,
The Branch is now settling down to normality after changes
of staff and a light flutter connected with Belize of course not
forgetting the Ordnance participation in arranging the Com-
mander-in-Chiefs Silver Jubilee Ball, its Chairman being Colonel
John Gregan—sweat, tears and blood.
HEADQUARTERS
THE Headquarters seems to be going through a relatively
quiet period with just the Belize/Guatemala confrontation to
keep the SD2 clerks (plus their co-opted non SD2 colleagues)
on their toes. During the early part of July the sun blazed
through our huge picture windows reducing most of us to
limp rags, and to open a window in search of a breeze was to
invite chaos as streams of rogue air swept papers and signals,
classified and unclassified, from desk tops into corridors. Still it
gave the Headquarters Security Section something to do.
Few personality reports are possible due largely to the
absence on leave of so many of our personalities. Still here
16 CLIFFORD STREET, SAVILE ROW,

and literally plodding on our new Superintending Clerk, Con-
ductor Iain Leggatt, can be seen daily doing ten circuits of the
playing field behind the Sergeants Mess but whether this is
simply a fitness-fetish or preparation for the 4,000 metres in the
Moscow Olympics isn't known. W02 Tom Atkins, our senior
PR Photographer seems to walk with a lighter gait too. due no
doubt to the arrival of his posting order to Public Relations
Services BAOR in August.
We welcome to the Wilton fold, as Chief Clerk Ordnance
Branch, W02 Allan Braithwaite.
He replaces SSM John
Rimmer who has secured a job up the road a bit at Head-
quarters North West District. Nice one, John.
The UKCICC Superintending Clerk, Conductor Brian
Waddoups. has headed for civilian life and he has been ably
replaced by SSM Malcolm Hayward, who has decided to spend
his last year in the service in this neck of the woods. (How
did you manage to wangle that Warrant Officer's quarter at
Christen urch, Malcolm'?),
In closing, a final fond farewell must be expressed to Staff
Sergeant Dereck Shipley who will have become a civilian again
by the time these notes go to press.
ADP Development Team (UKLF)
THE UKLF Computer System, housed in Dieppe Block UKLF,
was opened by the Commander-in-Chief, General Sir Edwin
Bramall, on the 18th October 1976. Since that date the com-
puter has been happily belching paper, facts and figures. We
have but three Corps members.
Lieutenant Colonel C. E. G, Hellis now firmly in charge
as GSOl(W) ADP, Chief Clerk Mick Ellis who spends little
time in the office as work clashes badly with his badminton
matches and Corporal Jim Wilde. Jim has been playing
daddy to thirty local underprivileged children by helping to
arrange a Jubilee party for them, which went very successfully.
As the computer hasn't yet learnt to talk this is all the
input for the moment, from the ADPDT.
South East District
THTS month we have seen more person-
ality changes among District military staff.
In Headquarters South East we wel-
come Lieutenant Colonel Keith Holtby
from DLSA who has taken over as
DADOS Administration / Organisation
from Lieutenant Colonel Bertie Ortiger.
We won't say farewell to Lieutenant
Colonel Ortiger just yet as his plans are
not yet finalised.
We also welcome our new DADOS Materiels, Major Gran-
ville Holt from Headquarters DGOS. Major Mark McLellan
is now fully resettled and we wish both Molly his wife, and
himself, all the very best of luck for the future.
Farewells are also due to Lieutenant Colonel Brian Hubbard,
OC OSU Liphook. Lieutenant Colonel Hubbard has com-
pleted his Resettlement Course and he takes up a Retired
Officers appointment with the RAMC at Mytchett in Septem-
ber. We wish him all the best in his new job. Major Len
Liechti will be commanding the OSU for the immediate future*
In other respects it has not been a newsworthy month al-
though with the training season in full swing it has been
sufficiently busy, in all departments,
Eastern District
SUMMER is fitfully here, which means
that many potential contributors have
gone elsewhere for the sun on holiday,
But a few of our worthies are still
about and among them is Major Carl
Dicker, who is given pride of place again
this month. With the guidance and help
of our CRAOC, Lieutenant Colonel
David Venning, Carl has played a big
part in organising the recent successful
GOCs Jubilee Fair which produced oyer
£1,600 for charity. If you are mentioned in despatches a third
time running, Carl, you'll be entitled to a cigar.
For two we«ks in July, Captain Bob Stafford-Curtis and
the Supply Depot staff, hosted 6 Supply Platoon RAOC (TAVR),
commanded by Captain Oliver Sunderland, While training
