Transcription After weeks of rain and bad weather, ihe sun finally
emerged for the Moenchcngladbaeh Station Charity Fete. This
Anglo-German event, organised by the Unit, was held al Ayr-
shire Barracks on 2nd July. The afiernoon was a greal success
and approximately 25,000 Deutschemarks were raised for the
nominated
charities, namely the British Limbless Ex-Service-
1
mens Association and a local German charily which caters
for the rehabilitation of the mentally handicapped.

and Lieutenant Colonel M. J. H, Connolly looking on.
As well as displays by the German Police Band from
Dusseldorf, the Army and German Fire Services and the RAF
Police
Dogs, there were Go-Karts for the budding James Hunts,
4
the Sugar PufT * train for the less daring and many other side-
shows and attractions run by Ihe various Moenchengladbach
Station Units, Schools and Youth organisations,
In addition to the Grand Draw with a colour TV as the
star prize and many other prizes all donated by local firms
and shops, there was also a separate raffle for a football signed
by the entire team of European Champions, Liverpool FC. This
proved a very popular prize and boosted the coffers consider-
ably,
The Fete was a memorable and enjoyable occasion for all
who attended and amply repaid the months of hard work
which had gone into its preparation.
On a sunny Thursday 7th July, one hundred and seventy
eight children of the Unit were entertained by RSM Bill Black
and his jocks at a Jubilee Barbecue and Party. The meal,
Queing for the Co Karts.
We are recruiting young these days!
prepared by Sergeant Joe Mears and his men, was superb. To
say that the tables were groaning would be no exaggeration. The
hordes of mums in attendance, apparently no weight watchers
there, also had a sausage or two. Corporals Jack Ventress and
Les Pearce gave the kids a lift in their converted and colourful
"Heister' whilst Sergeant Terry Barwick and Corporal 'fling*
Crosby conducted an hilarious penalty goal competition. Mrs
Joan Black, Dorothy Harrison and the ubiquitous Babs Brockle-
bank organised a dancing competition for all ages and the
junior Gingers and Freds duly strutted. The children and
mums wholly enjoyed themselves and all the youngsters left
with a gift. The RSM left with a partial twitch.
Although the leave season is in full swing and multiple
escort duties have come our way. the remaining few have
soldiered on uncomplainingly and upheld their traditional good
humour.
Corporal Mick Greenhalgh, with Privates Trev Tingle and
Taffy Broom, have gone off to Bavaria on adventure training
by courtesy of 11 OFF, Volunteers all, they hopefully are the
the first of many such co-operative schemes with our Field
Force comrades.
