Transcription Massive quantities of embrocation have been demanded
from the Medical Centre since the appointment of Captain
Sider as Officer-in-Charge Unit Physical Fitness,
Regular
running and PT, led by the Commanding Officer, are now a
regular feature of life at the VSD—and everyone is enjoying it
—and the over forties have pledged themselves to aceept the
challenge of the DGOS for the three mile run T although
Olympic standards are not envisaged!
The Rheindahlen Allied Marches took place on 13th July
at which the Unit entered three teams; an over forties,
Sergeants Mess and Young Soldiers. Not to be outdone, the
Sergeants Mess stalwarts surprised everyone by finishing the
course. A special mention must be made of Private Carter
who was 'hi-jacked' at the last minute, manfully carried on
well blistered, and really earned his medal.
Captain David Kerr will shortly be leaving the Unit to
take part in Exercise Long Look, which we are led to believe
is a four months i swan' to Australia, Prior to his departure,
the Commanding Officer presented him with his BAOR rugby
colours for 1977.
Welcome this month to Sergeant McGinley, Lance Corporal
Day and Private Luxford (back from Northern Ireland).
Farewell to Sergeant Briggs and Lance Corporal Knight.
Finally, congratulations to Private Fagan on his marriage
to Miss Christine Cookson, and to our DMA, Miss Christine
Lillington on her marriage to Mr Trevor Johnson.
Congratulations to Staff Sergeant Chris Kimplon and
i rpciral Charlie ColTils on their acting promotion and to
i Tporals Mick Greenhalgh and Stu Thompson on their sub-
- -.nlive promotion. We welcome WO I Pete Dunn and WOZ
H m Watford; Sergeant Frank Smith and Corporal Jim Free-
hi'rn from Bicester, Sergeant Jim Roche and Lance Corporal
Dick Chesterrnan from Donnington, Sergeant Dave Udall from
10 Ordnance Support Battalion, and Sergeant Dick Butlin Royal
Signals.
Farewell on posting to WOsl Denis Baldwin and Brian
Manson, W02 Norman Towler, Staff Sergeant John Robertson
and Corporal Stu Thompson. Also to WO I Ron Brown and

HE Unit swimming team excelled themselves by winning for
(he first time, the Rhine Area Minor Units swimming champion-
ships, It was also a great feat inasmuch as the trophy had
previously been held by the Sappers for the past seven years,
In achieving such a great performance, special mention must
be made of Private Max Evans, who set up two new Rhine
Area Records in both the breast and backstroke events, in
addition to the new record set up by the medley relay team.
The win qualified the team for the BAOR Championships a
week later in Berlin where Private Evans won his event and

FOR many people the Sennelager Jubilee Review is now just
a proud memory to be re-kindled from time to time by photo-
graphs of the great event. To the merry men of Camp and
Repair Group however it is a part of every day life as the
ten-tenners disgorge their cargo of damp, lifeless canvas. Under
the direction of Staff Sergeant Miller this Peoples Dispensary For
Sick Canvas has the task of sorting repairing and storing much
of the tentage seen at Sennelager.
The event itself was
spectacular and attended by many Dulmen personnel, however,
to a lesser extent, the Jubilee Street Party at Tower School
was also spectacular and the result of many hours of hard
work. One of the stars of the show, Sergeant Cox, disguised
himself as a clown and, to his distress, was immediately recog-
nised by his friends,
Sadly, this month we said goodbye to our local Naafi

damager' Gordon Robertson and his wife Cathy. They have
been at Dulmen for over six years and have given us excellent
service during this time. After being presented with a picture
of Dulmen, Mr Robertson said " I have only served with two
Units in BAOR but Dulmen was one of the best! ! M Praise
like that is hard earned.

nas since been selected to swim in the Army Championships
in UK, but overall, the team finished in fourth place in the
Minor Units, but still a creditable performance.
It is also
rumoured that they also had time to sample the night life
of Berlin—after the swimming of course 1
The Unit seven-a-side l football tournament saw Major
Terry Glen's Vehicle Park A' team win the trophy, but not
without a fierce 1 struggle against Kit Stores, duly dubbed
'Thomases Terrors. The Officers team gave a creditable per-
formance, in particular the Commanding Officer, who played
™ goal, and some of wis saves would undoubtedly have solved
tne problems the England team have been experiencing. All in
all, it was an enjoyable afternoon and was culminated in Mrs
Dorothy Young, wife of our Commanding Officer, presenting
the awards,
The Sergeants Mess held a splendid Jubilee Cocktail party to
which some two hundred guests were invited. A number of
Unit members also made the trip to Sennelager to witness the
review of the Army by Her Majesty The Queen.
Since the formation of the Unit ten pin bowling team there
has been a fair amount of success. In the first annual BAOR
Championships Lance Corporal Dave Catchpole became the
Ornish Forces Germany single champion and in doing so beat
the best players of R A F (G) and BAOR. The team play in the
BFG Friday league and are hoping for further success this
season.

WE in Bracht were eagerly looking forward to another 4 sun
bathing s type summer but so far we have had plenty of
* bathing' but as yet no sun—there again, just being at Bracht
is compensation enough.
The 3 BAPD marching team, after a number of well
deserved successes ably led by Sergeant Dennis Ashworth
tackled that other annual event which is so popular on the
continent * The Nijmegen Marches/ Forty kilometres a day,
for four days—a daunting thought. True to their form the
team came through and earned a team award as well as the
individual awards.
Our cyclists have yet again been earning themselves glory.
Earlier this month WOl Ron Foster attended the Army Track
Championships in Reading with the following personal results:
One kilometre time trial, first; sprint, second; pursuit, second;
punctured in the final five miles race (overall—points race).
WOl Ron Foster aiso represented the Army in the Combined
Services Track Championships, the Army finishing second to
the Royal Navy.
The sporting find of the season so far has been Sergeant
Ken Avery and his tug-of-war team. After their recent success
in the Rhine Area athletics meet they were invited to participate
in the RAF Wildenrath Invitation Meeting and swept the board
at the two weights being pulled (660 kilograms and 640 kilo-
grams) beating the RAF Germany Champions. As a direct result
of this fine win the team has been invited to participate in an
International Meeting in August—our best wishes go with them.
We would like to say goodbye to Major Burgess, Sergeants
Knight and Huime, Lance Corporals Gower, O'Connor, Bart-
lett and Legg, Privates Stewart and Entwistle. We welcome
Major Von Zugbach de Sugg, Sergeant Sutton, Lance Corporal
Talbot and Privates Seymoor and Scott-Kerr.
