4 Petroleum Depot
SINCE our last publication the Unit has undergone the ravages
of AG9 and Manning and Records Office,
*
The first of these changes was the OC, Major Bill Willies,
who after setting up the Depot and inheriting all the problems
left by contractors and designers has decided to leave army
life and try to put the civilian Petro Chemical World to rights.
We all wish him well.
His place has been rapidly filled by Major Ian McKinnon
from ChilwelL The introduction of a chequered desk cover to
his office I'm told, is something to do with devolution, and
his posting to the Petrol Depot is not a take over bid by SNP.
During the handover period the OIC POL Operations has
been hiding in Deepcut taking the Advanced OOs Course
but, before leaving BAOR, he managed to get his wife Ross
programmed to produce their first off-spring Joanna. Fve
seen critical paths go wrong before but Roy's incorporated a
boat trip departure and the only way to meet the deadline
was to cut short a waiting period. That was Ross's holiday.
Our chief clerk, Staff Sergeant Bob Pollington, has left us
and reports from UK inform us that he has hired Securicor
to pick up his redundancy pay. His relief, Sergeant ' Mac'
McLoughlin, finds that taking over from a folk singer leaves
a lot to be desired as Staff Pollington had the telephone rigged^
to sound like a tambourine.
By the time this piece is published we will also have lost
the services of that duo Corporal Frank Edwards and Corporal
Colin James. They are yet again posted together and both to
the Petroleum Centre West Moors. After twelve years of
serving together they are getting used to it
Our arrivals, to counteract the flood of departures, are
Lance Corporal Bruce Smith and Corporal TafT Hillard, both
Petroleum Operators, Corporal * Geordie * Laverick who will
work in the accounts office, Sergeant Brian Robertson who
takes over the newly established post of Mechanical Transport
Sergeant, and Private Derek Draper who will be in the orderly
room,
The naming of Preston Barracks at Recklinghausen by the Mayor
of Preston Lancashire.
Left to right: The Mayor of Preston,
Councillor J. Hood the Oberburgermeister of Recklinghausen,
Herr H. Wulfram, the OC Corps Vehicle Company, Major E. B.
Jeffery and DOS BAOR, Brigadier F. P. Crawley.
Mayor of Preston and the Oberburgermeister of Recklinghausen,
Preston being the English ' Twin Town.'
Combined with the ' opening ceremony * was the Unit fete
to raise funds for a local German Handicapped Childrens
Home. Over twenty five side shows were available to tempt
visitors to part with their money for this worthy cause.
The Pipes and Drums of the Royal Scots lent colour and
music to the occasion and their 'Pied Piper of HamelnT
march through the centre of Recklinghausen helped to swell
the attendance.
Brigadier and Mrs Crawley, Lieutenant Colonel and Mrs
Man and Lieutenant Colonel and Mrs Sotting attended.
Wuifen Station
WITH several hectic months behind us
the Station has settled down to a more
leisurely pace, apart from several high
ranking visitors, the BAOR Minor Units
Athletic Championships at Sennelager—
where the Station team came third, the
Army finals in the UK where our team
also came third, a Station Jubilee Revue,
an All Ranks Ball, the Sergeants Mess
Grand Jubilee Ball, the Wives Club Bar-
beque, the RAOC (BAOR) Cricket Trials
which we hosted, a volleyball match against the local German
Territorial Army Unit which we lost, our team for the Rhein-
dahlen Marches—which they finished, a PRE Inspection and a
lengthy visit from the Defence Auditors—very little else has
happened!
154 FAD. With the PRE Inspection over, the Defence Auditors
departed and the Documents Team having gone, there are more
smiles around the Unit than for some weeks. We congratulate
Captain Paul Henwood on his recent marriage to Miss Sandra
Pollit and also congratulate Lance Corporal Steve Geary on
his promotion. Welcome to Sergeant Stuart Veazy, Corporal
Glen Stott and Private Bob Gallagher and farewell to Sergeant
Pete Holmes, Corporal Dave Cotterill and Private Ron Hoiden,
all off to pastures new.
1 (BR) CORPS VEHICLE COMPANY. Saturday the 18th June
was a memorable occasion for 1 (BR) Corps Vehicle Company
RAOC when their barracks at Recklinghausen were named
* Preston Barracks.*

WE HAVE
OUR TRADITIONS
TOO!
We at Gieves and Hawkes may enjoy a sense of history because we
dressed the Iron Duke and Nelson, invented the Shako, the cavalry
head-dress, were first to make the Solar Tupee and have been tailor-
ing uniforms for over two-hundred years, but we're certain!v not
hidebound!
Each garment—uniform or suit—is cut and tailored by hand to our
own exacting standards. We have, after all, built a tradition of success
by providing clothes which, for generations, have been accepted as
the very best . . .
Today we not only continue, to tailor uniforms and suits to the highest
standards, we also offer a fine choice of ready-to-wear clothes. Suits,
blazers, trousers, knitwear, shirts, ties and shoes in classical and
modern styles, including Britains largest range of Chester Barrie suits
and topcoats, all await you at Savile Row.
