Transcription The team consisted of Colonel Berresford. Lieutenant
Colonel Bhabutta RADC, Lieutenant Colonel Hcndy 4 from
Kineton, Lieutenant Colonel Elliott from Bramley. Major
Woodliffe from Ashchureb, and Major Roach and Major
Bennett (Team Captain) again from Kmelon.
This convincing victory for the tennis team gave the
CADs and CVDs victory in the Base Organisation Cup and was
the first time that the Grand Slam had been achieved by any
of the competing Units.
Also on the tennis front our Tennis Team moved from
strength to strength in the fight for the Army Cup. As winners
in the West Midland Disl/ict we met the team from the AAC
at Netheravon, winners in the South West District. The team
members found that not only did they have to compete against
each other but they also had to fight the weather. All the
games were played in torrential rain much to the annoyance
of everybody, especially those unfortunate enough to be wearing
spectacles who found that they played most of their games
with blurred vision. CAD Kineton played magnificently, despite
these weather conditions, and Netheravon conceded the match
6-0.

Headingly we, at CAD Kineton, discovered hidden cricketing
talents during the recent Inter Company Cup competition,
Geoffrey Boycott watch out!
In the first semi-final * C Company proved too strong for
Headquarters Company winning by fifty nine runs. Lieutenant
Max Burnett thirty one not out and W02 John Lawrence twenty
eight were Headquarter Company's main scorers.
The second semi-final prduced a thrilling finale. * B ' Com-
pany batting first, made one hundred and twenty for four in
their twenty overs. In reply W Company made one hundred
and seventeen for seven wickets, Lance Corporal Jim Croft
being run out on the last ball after attempting a boundary shot
which would have given *A' Company victory.
The final, fc played on 4th August, was a very well con-
tested match. B ' Company won the toss and elected to bat.
They made one hundred and nine for four with W02 Carl
Forde making a brave forty seven after having his nose broken
during his innings! Staff Sergeant Terry Kitchen made thirty
seven to add to his fifty one runs made in the semi-final which
made him the highest scorer in the competition. * C ' Com-
pany in reply made eighty eight all out, losing their last five
wickets for only six runs. Lance Corporal John Hartley took
three wickets in three balls.
The Inter-Company swimming competition was also held
in August. The intrepid swimming teams braved the elements
at a nearby school swimming pool to compete for honours.
Major successes of the day came from C/HQ Company who
won the final competition with forty six points from A Com-
pany, with thirty eight points, C/GQ Company won three out
of a possible four relay races setting up some fast records
for next years competitors to break. The WRAC element also
took part, with the B Company girls winning the competition
with fourteen points from those in the A Company with ten.
Our congratulations go this month to W02 Greig and to
Staff Sergeant Morten on being presented with Long Service
and Good Conduct Medals by the Commandant.

HEADQUARTERS
A "Sports Quiz Night' was recently held in the Sergeants
Mess sponsored by Watneys with beer selling at lOp per pint;
teams being entered by the Sergeants Mess, Officers Mess,
Cheltenham Police and the RMP Association, Since the two
winning teams were from the Cheltenham Police, rumours have
started that the members of the Sergeants Mess can now drive
with some immunity in the Cheltenham area! The Sergeants
Mess also played host to a cricket team, accompanied by wives,
from the British Legion Club at Bishops Cleeve. It has been
heard, in the 4 passing, that Sergeant Paul Greene our attach-
ment from Down Under' thinks he has been here long
enough, he is beginning to get used to and likes our local
brew.
VEHICLE DEPOT ASHCHURCH
BEING the kind hearted man I am, 1 have decided to scribe
just one more month's GAZETTE notes before handing over to
Captain Bill Roberts who joined us today from PSO Sutton
Coldfield, welcome Bill, I hope you have a pleasant stay at
Ashchurch.
WOl Cook and Sergeant Humphris were the recipients this
month of the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal and with
their congratulations we must also add those to Mr Carter who
at the same presentation received the Imperial Service Medal.
Colonel Blakemore had the pleasant task of presenting all
three medals and we hope to have photographs of the occasion
ready for next month's notes.
Morning Physical Training seems to be the in thing at the
moment with the DGOS challenge firmly fixed in the * over
forties' minds, our ever welcome Physical Training Instructor,
Corporal Foxon, has the programme well in hand while the
over forties appear to be enjoying their weekly stiffener with
Captain Knight, Our Quartermaster, Captain Harry Hayward,
is checking training facilities in the Taunton area hoping to
pass his BFP 2 nearer home.
The cricket season coming to a close sees the odd situation
of bodies in cricket whites training beside the Unit football team
and we count ourselves lucky indeed to be in a Unit with
such a wide range of sport facilities,
Despite all advice given by the married staff of the
Orderly Room, Judy Brown decided she would 'see for her-
self and married Private Pringle on 30th July. We were only
joking Judy, sincere congratulations.
Congratulations to Corporal Williams and Hubertina and
Lance Corporal Lewandowski and Sue on being blessed with
a daughter and son respectively.
Corporal Johns has just started a four month exchange tour
with the Australian Army and we are shortly to receive Sergeant
Green from Down Under, let's hope you both enjoy your
tours, and Corporal Johns . . . . don't look for the Ashes while
your over there, apparently they have been Boycotted! Corporal
Sanderson is currently blessing Major Ford for fixing him a
detachment in Kenya while Sergeant Parkes, complete with
ice hockey stick, has gone to Canada to *help them out* for
four months
meanwhile back in Ashchurch, Privates
Canale, Davies, Jeffers, Mclver and Lewandowski have all
been promoted to Acting Lance Corporal—well done.
Sergeants Hassan and Eldridge, Corporals Stone and
Crilley, Lance Corporal Quinn and Brammer, Privates Gover,
Worrali, Dearden, Speed, McMurdo, Counsell, Coole and Young
have all joined us this month—welcome. To those who have
departed for sunnier and not so sunny climes and to civilian
life, farewell.
VEHICLE DEPOT HILTON
WE at Hilton have not regularly contributed to THE GAZETTE,
an omission which will be rectified. Tlie Depot is in Derby-
shire close to the Staffordshire border.
Because we are a civilian organisation sporting activities
are not so prominent as in Depots with a military contingent,
we do nevertheless, have a promising ladies netball team. They
recently attended the Civil Service Sports day and were not
disgraced. Once the artistry of their play matches the beauty
of the members then they will certainly do well in the local
league they hope to join. Watch this column for news of the
mens football team.
Jan Miller our lady Work Study Officer, is now being
referred to as Hilton's answer to Blasford-Snell.
