Headquarters BAOR
ON 12th September, Ordnance Directorate lost its oldest
soldier with the departure from Materiel Branch of SQMS Jim
Wilson at the tender age of fifty eight. He has twenty nine and
a half years service to his credit and, reluctant to make too
great a change, is to be re-employed as a civilian clerk with
Man IS & R Branch in Headquarters BAOR. Here he is seen
receiving his regulation Materiels Branch Tankard from ADOS
Lieutenant Colonel Hardie. Also in the picture are Major
Ironside and Major Jessop, SQMS Legg, Miss Sue Evans
(daughter of Major Ken Evans) and WOl Suthren.

Incidentally, his colleagues in Ordnance Directorate believe
that SQMS Wilson at the age of fifty eight must be the oldest
serving soldier in the Corps. Any counter claims?
W02 L. H. Butterfield of Ord 4 was presented with his
Long Service and Good Conduct Medal recently by the DOS,
Brigadier Crawley, after a lunch-time gathering in the Rhein-
dahlen Garrison Sergeants Mess. After wetting W02 Butter-
field's gong, the DOS presented RAOC BAOR Sports Colours to
WOl C B. Johnston in recognition of the distinction with
which he has represented the Corps at football in BAOR.
The Directorate staff downed tools on 18th August to at-
tend a ' happy half-hour' to despatch the Registry NCO,
Corporal Julie Power of the WRAC, to the UK to marry Lance
Corporal D. K. Bradley of the RCT. We are pleased to say
that she will be rejoining us after her marriage,

THE theme this month seems to be comings and goings.
August being the height of the leave season almost seventy five
per cent of the Unit have been to, are now in, or are going shortly

Medal from Brigadier Crawley.
to, destinations that read like an a to z of North West Europe,
UK, Bavaria, Holland, Italy etc. By next month it will be all
over and time to get back to work with a vengeance.
WOl Colin Pearce and Staff Sergeant Ian McRae started
the month off with a weeks study at Bath University, they
claimed that the good spirits they returned with could be
attributed to the hard work and enlightenment. Others have
their own opinion.
Major Derek Hellings returned from hospital with his
right hand heavily bandaged but being ambidexterous had no
difficulty in lifting his pints with his left hand. However, no
sooner had he got over his post operation blues than some-
one rammed the rear of his new car and disappeared. The
German Police have since apprehended the culprit (not a
member of this Unit or the Army) and a smile has returned to
his facel
Staff Sergeant Jim Unsworth bought himself a concertina
a couple of weeks ago, trying to squeeze the most out of his
tour? Shortly afterwards he received a posting order—he strongly
denies any connection!
A farewell party was held for Conductor Ray Boucher,
Staff Sergeant Ian McRae and our typist of late, Maggie, It
was also an opportunity to welcome WOl John Rolison who
arrived the day before. The evening was a very enjoyable
one and we wish Ray and Ian good luck in their new postings
at Kineton and Netheravon respectively. Maggie has moved
next door to the Salvation Army, as a typist not necessarily a
convert I
We have also welcomed Staff Sergeant George Ferguson
from Army School of Ammunition and new typist Mrs Jane
Coulter; may their stay with us be fruitful and enjoyable,

FROM our * forward troops' there is very little to report.
Corporal 'TafF Roberts is still to be heard muttering about
the non-Welsh passengers in the British Lions side which
recently toured New Zealand so he and Corporal Myring are
sharpening their studs ready for our forthcoming rugby season
to show how it should be done. Selectors please note,
Corporal Cotterill has just joined us from Wulfen and
was in time to attend the small garden party held recently in
honour of our German counterparts from the ammunition
