The weather. however did not co-operate but thanks to
i r alternative arrangements the occasion went off very well
ih plenty in common to talk about.
The handover and takeover between W02 Bowen and
Vv02 Marritl is running smoothly—so it should. By the time
W02 Bowen departs it will have taken almost four months.

STORES SUB-DEPOT VIERSEN
IT seems that everyone is either just going or coming back from
leave. The alleged summer is upon us, but has a dampening
<.tlect.
Outdoor activities are again in the fore with our
Nijmegen Marchers, Captain John Dunn, Staff Sergeant Jim
Milne REME and Sergeant Jim Reid, all completing the
course. The event was held on 19th—22nd July and, although
not placed, our veterans—all three having completed the course
the previous year, had an enjoyable time.
On the 11th August the Commandant, Colonel Pain, was
dined out of the Officers Mess. On the 12th of August the
Commandant was dined out of the Sergeants Mess. Obviously
stamina counts.
The RSM has been away on holiday. Malicious gossips
say that his visit to the Alps in Southern Germany was survival
training for his children. His visit to the doctor on his return,
u ith stomach pains and his subsequent confinement to bed,
has however, nothing to do with his field cooking.
Our list of postings is more impressive than of late. Before
the rolls are read, congratulations to Private Andy Gooderham
on the birth of his daughter Kerry on 10th July. Welcome to:
Sergeant Kevin Townsend from 9 AYT, Staff Sergeant Steve
Dodds from Bicester and WOl Cliff Polsen from Depot and
Training Battalion.
Farewell t o : Corporal Stu Thompson to 32 Engineer Regi-
ment, Corporal Alan Baines to Depot and Training Battalion,
Corporal Jack Smith to 10 Ordnance Support Battalion, Staff
Sergeant Davy Jones and WOl Brian Manson to Rheindahlen
Garrison.
VEHICLE SUB-DEPOT
MOENCHENGLADBACH
CONGRATULATIONS this month to SSM George Goodswen
who was presented with his Long Service and Good Conduct
Medal by the Commandant at a ceremony in the Sergeants Mess.
Private Donaldson was also chosen to play for the Corps
1BAOR) in representative matches,
On the motor cycling scene, Sergeant Hart won a bronze
medal at the Jubilee Motor Cycle Trials held at Leuth, a very
creditable performance against strong opposition,
Congratulations to Lance Corporal Cripps for his suggestion
to the Army Department Technical Suggestions and Award
Scheme, which has resulted in a modification to the engine
governor level dipstick on FV 430 series—and an award of £25
to Corporal Cripps.
Corporal Kirby. our rally enthusiast had a great success
in the Hunsruk Rally. Special praise also goes to Corporal
White and Privates Bridgman and Sheldrick who formed the
service crew and gave aid to other military teams with no
service facilities, thus earning great credit for the Unit.
The Junior Ranks organised a very successful trip to
Wuppertal Zoo, and as a far as we know they all returned!
The Unit football team have started the season with a
vengeance.
In a 'friendly' against SSD Viersen they won
4-0 and this was followed by the devastation of a local German
Club FC Frankonia Broich 4-2. The latter proved to be a
very hard game. Playing their last games for the team were
SSM Paul Barlow and Lance Corporal Max Bonsu.
Both
vowed they would score—and they did!
Trainer Staff Sergeant Eddie Wilson swears it's the new
* Celtic Green' strip we have acquired which has got us off
to such a good start! This year we are in Zone 1 of the North
Rhine Inter Service League and will be up against Major Units,
but confidence and morale in the team is high.
There are many farewells this month, in particular the
VSD's " Mr Fixit" namely W02 Fred Genders, who will be
missed by many housewives in quarters on the servicing of
their washing machines and other electrical appliances. W 2
Genders and family are bound for civilian life.
Farewell also to our Adjutant, Captain Brian Crawley on
posting to the Corps Vehicle Company; leaving the service
are SSM ' Nick * Neal and Sergeant Beaty to whom we extend
our best wishes in their retirement
Farewell also to SSM Paul Barlow, our Chief Clerk,
RQMS Hearn, Sergeant Keefe, Corporal Batty on promotion
to Sergeant, Corporal Scarborough, Lance Corporal Crook ACC,
and Lance Corporal Kirby.
A warm VSD welcome to Conductor Utting, SQMS Cowell,
Sergeants Hulme and Wilkinson RE, Lance Corporal Gillott and
Privates Warner and Garlinge.
Finally, congratulations to Lance Corporal and Mrs Gatley
on the birth of a son, Simon Richard.

Colonel Pain, the Commander 15 Composite Ordnance Depot,
presenting SSM Goodswen with his Long Service and Good
Conduct Medal.
The cricket team, under that old stalwart. Captain David
ard. have come into top form and recently beat our arch
rivals. SSD Dulmen by seven wick_ets. There was excellent
team spirit in the side with superb fielding and bowling, Lance
Corporal Johnson taking five for fifteen. Dulmen were all out
for fifty two and the VSD replied with fifty three for three.

THESE NOTES open with the news that last month's temporary
scribe. Staff Sergeant Graham DuPrat, is now lying flat on
his back in hospital, obviously the result of these efforts,
Seriously though, we wish him a speedy recovery.
During August, the Chief of Staff BAOR, Major General
Carnegie visited the Unit and awarded Long Service and
Good Conduct Medals to W 2 Jim Lewis and Sergeant Alan
Bredan ACC. The presentation took place in the Sergeants
Mess, General Carnegie is coming again during September,
this time to watch a demonstration on the Ampliroll hydraulic
lifting system for stores,
The children s' summer activities, under the leadership of
Second Lieutenant Chris Owen, have now ended, having been
a great success. The helpers are too numerous to mention
here, but many thanks are due to them for their efforts in
amusing the Bracht offspring during the school holidays* The
activities included cooking, model-making, sewing, photography,
swimming, squash, shooting, team games, fishing, assault course
and visits to places of interest.
It is reported that Chris
Owen is now going on a post-activities basket-weaving course at
Netley!
The Unit rugby team are proceeding on a tour of the West
Country.
Included in the itinerary are games at Plymouth
against Devonport Services and 3 Commando Brigade. Also they
play London Irish after watching the British Lions v Barbarians
at Twickenham.
Unit golfers have been very active this season, and in most
cases very successful. Sergeants Bob Davidson and Ian Dickson
and Corporal Alex Livingstone all picked up prices in the
last two meetings, SSM Pete Emerton and Sergeant Brian
Dawson both had outings as RAOC representatives.
The
team as a whole, although strangers to Match play competition
though ably captained by Pete Emerton, are at present half
way in the Rhine Area League. Could it be true that Pete
Emerton carries a No. 2 whip in his bag?
