Jim gets a new set of wheels.
A new chair will transform the life of multiple
sclerosis
sufferer and war veteran Jim Smith,
The electrically propelled chair, which will enable sixty
three year old Mr Smith of Marshlands, Dymchurch,
to get out
and about, was presented to him last week by Mrs Mary Proctor,
national director of welfare for the Soldiers, Sailors and Air-
men's Families Association
(SSAFA).
His need was brought to the attention of Wing Com-
mander Eric Tooth, of Lyminge t district organiser for SSAFA,
by Mrs Sloper of the WRVS in Dymchurch.
Mr Smith t who does a lot of work for the British Legion,
had a chair to get round the house but not outside, and his
wife is out at work during the day.
Wing Commander
Tooth—pictured
with Mr Smith and
guests at the presentation—set
about raising the funds. He
received £100 from Multiple Sclerosis; £150 from the Royal
Army Ordnance Corps Aid Society; £75 from the Royal Artil-
lery Charitable Fund and £75 from the RAF Benevolent
Fund
in respect of his wife's service with the WRAF.
Mr Smith saw
service in North Africa and is a veteran of Tobruk.
Incidentally, Wing Commander Tooth who does such good
work for SSAFA in the district is eighty four years old—or
should it be young.
