LIEUTENANT COLONEL R. T. SUMMERS
LIEUTENANT COLONEL C D, OH A RE writes: —
-Ray Summers died at RAF Hospital Wroughton on 25th
June after a brief but serious illness. Ray's long and dis-
tinguished career in the Corps started when he enlisted on the
16th March 1943, During the Second World War he saw
active service in Normandy France, Belgium. Holland and
Germany. Following a period in the United Kingdom he was
posted to the Far East and served in Japan and Korea between
1950 and 1952.
Ray returned to Germany in 1953 and it was at Lippstadt
where he met his wife Evamarie, They married in 1954.
As a Warrant Officer during the period 1955 to 1967 he
served in 443 BAD Singapore, CAD Longtown, Dortmund,
Bielefeld and COD Chilwell before being commissioned in
1967. His commissioned service took him to Bahrein, BAOR,
Chilwell and finally to Devizes. I was fortunate to have Ray
as my Quartermaster during a period of considerable unit re-
organisation and upheaval during the twelve months prior to his
death. His good nature and sense of humour together with
his exceptional knowledge of Ordnance Stores and Equipments
enabled the changes to be made with the minimum of dis-
ruption to Regimental activities. In spite of much physical
discomfort during the last few months of his life his courage
and determination continued to earn him the admiration of all
with whom he associated. His death has robbed the Army of
an outstanding officer.
The final tribute was paid to Ray at his military funeral
which was held at Saint Patricks Roman Catholic Church Tid-
worth and the Tidworth Military Cemetery. A large gathering of
friends and relatives together with a contingent from his Unit,
10 Ordnance Support Battalion, united to pay their last respects.
To his wife Evamarie and his three daughters we send our
sincere sympathy.
