Transcription ARMY CATALOGUING AUTHORITY, WOOLWICH
,)UR first article (August GAZETTE) was 'guillotined' before
publication, and thus gives the impression that there are some
ive military and four hundred and one civilians packed into
Headquarters Building 37 Royal Arsenal—anyone knowing the
location must be really concerned—the * queues in the loos'
would be really something, and our chances of recruiting staff
reduced to zero unless this anomally is corrected.
The printed version of our original account omitted the
fact that there are four Agencies under our control, located at
Woolwich, Kidbrooke, Didcot and Chilwdl. In addition both
the Equipment Table Production Centre RAOC and CES
Secretariat are now also under our wing as the result of the
last I of E Inspection. The total staff are therefore fairly well
dispersed between these various locations.
Any readers having friends in Headquarters ACA may
therefore rest assured that all is well—there are no cases
requiring medical attention—yet!
Training Centre
HEADQUARTERS
THERE has been a considerable change of staff since our last
notes in THE GAZETTE, SO here is a run down of the military
personnel within the Headquarters. The Commander is Briga-
dier Dennison; SOI Lieutenant Colonel Day; GS02 Major
Baines; DAA and QMG Major Cooke and the S03 SD Lieuten-
ant Colonel Anton bf 4ie WRAC. The clerical staff is headed by
WOl Dennis Johnston G Staff Assistant/Superintending Clerk;
Sergeant Dick Lawrence Chief Clerk G ; Sergeant Andy Thomson
Chief Clerk AQ and Private Simpson of the WRAC in the
registry.
August was a very quiet month with everyone getting in
their hard earned leave. The Commander finally arrived back
from his sailing holiday after being stranded for twenty four
hours in France, by a gale. The SOI returned from leave to
find he was away again for a week on a course at Easingwoald.
Major Cooke has had a spell in hospital but is back home
resting and we wish him a speedy recovery. WOl Johnston has
no sooner got his feet under the table to find he is now the
trainer of the Training Centre soccer team.
Finally we say farewell to WOl Larry Cunningham and
wish him all the best in civilian life and to Sergeant Reg Smith
on his posting to Donnington after five years in Blackdown.
CENTRAL VOLUNTEER HEADQUARTERS
WE thought we would remind our readers that Central Volunteer
Headquarters RAOC, is still very much a hive of activity, with
its small band of hard worked staff both military and civilian
helping to keep our TAVR Sponsored Units documented,
technically efficient and well trained.
On the AQ side Major P. K, Fleming has taken over as
S02 AQ from Major M. Newman, and quite remarkably we
have heard very few war stories of the fighting * 4th Division *
from Major Fleming or little on that fascinating subject of
statistics from Major Newman who recently attended a pre
Manchester Statistics Course at Beaconsfield.
The S02 (Training) Major J. Cranmer is at present ' rough-
ing it' in Cyprus with members of 134 Vehicle Platoon, un-
fortunately he could not arrange for the RAF to air freight his
yacht 'Min-o-Din' to Cyprus as well. In the absence of the
S02 (Training) our erstwhile training officers Captains Kirby
and Bentley are looking as harassed as ever, is it three or four
extra recruit courses they have run this year!
The RSM WOl Hendry is at present occupied with a
sponsored walk in aid of Kidney Research, but his team of
PSIs namely Staff Sergeant Kirkbride (Petroleum), Staff Sergeant
MacDonald (Stores), Staff Sergeant Pitts (Clerical), Staff Sergeant
Young (RD) and Staff Sergeant Foster (Laundry) keep the train-
ing cycle going.
We would like to congratulate Staff Sergeant Kirkbnde
on his being awarded the Long Service and Good Conduct
Medal which was presented to him by the Commander Central
Volunteer Headquarters RAOC, Colonel Hind, in the Training
Centre Sergeants Mess.
Farewells will be in order shortly for Staff Sergeant Mac-
Donald who is posted to the School of Ammunition and Staff
Sergeant Pitts who is awaiting the call to a Work Study appoint-
ment.
Finally congratulations to Staff Sergeant Foster on passing
his EPC(A).
SCHOOL OF ORDNANCE
NOT too much to offer this month but gems nevertheless.
The School is now back in full swing following the August
block leave with students of all shapes, sizes and colour pouring
in. The leave of a month ago is already a forlorn memory.
We welcome to the staff of the School Major Monty Murty
on exchange from the United States Army. He is already
making his mark here having supported the Mess Car Rally
admirably if not successfully. Also Corporal, now Sergeant,
Webster to whom congratulations on promotion are due in addi-
tion. The departures of Major Derek Lance, to Manchester
University and Sergeant Franklin to civilian life are mourned
by us all. We thank them for all they have done and wish
them every success for the future.
Lance Corporal Knox, not satisfied with two periods of
endurance training and one of circuit training per week, still
runs at the slightest provocation.
Despite all this he still
has energy left over for his work. He recently took part in a
one hundred miles sponsored run in a week for The National
Kidney Research Fund,
Needless to say he completed it
leaving us all filled with admiration but with now empty
Dockets'
APPRENTICES COLLEGE
ON the 11th August the DGOS took the salute at the Summer
Term Passing Out Parade. One hundred and nineteen Ap-
prentices passed out into adult service including the last eight
junior soldiers of the Intelligence Corps to be trained at the
College.
The DC OS inspects the parade.
We have welcomed, in place of the term leavers, an intake
of two hundred and fourteen recruits who are looking forward
to an extremely active three months.
It is not often that our civilian staff get a mention in
THE GAZETTE Notes but we have recently said goodbye to three
stalwarts of the College. Mr Frederick Farr has left the Orderly
Room after fourteen years service, Mrs ' Biddy' Mclntyre
leaves the PJRC after ten years and Mr Stan Cummings has
left us after nineteen years work around the Garrison. We wish
them all the very best of luck for the future.
