EMPLOYMENT TRAINING
SCHOOL
SEPTEMBER has been a month of change in the Class 3
Clerical Training Branch, with the reversion to conventional
instruction in preference to programme learning, WOl Dave
Clerk, the WOIC section has it is reputed, given up hope of
acting in an advisory capacity and can now be seen scurrying
to and fro carrying anything from office machinery to boxes
of stationery. Storeman Training are also feeling the pressure
working through sacrosanct month of August dealing with con-
verting Regimental Dutymen into Storemen.
In spite of this the ' Fit to Fight' programme continues to
be a source of consternation to all departments within the
School. It may be pertinent to note that the AFTO and
DAFTO are both attached Arms, W02 John Payne and W02
Laurie Shaw, REME and RE respectively. Will relevant Record
Offices please note when considering future postings. This in-
tensive physical Training programme has also resulted in our
intrepid voyager Sergeant Ian Parrotte once again departing
on one of his now famous sailing expeditions.
Congratulations are in order this month to Corporal Alec
Cumming on passing his Class 1 Storeman course, and to
Sergeant Dave Barraclough on successfully instructing General
Callan's son on a driving course* Still on the subject of
courses, the Commandant, Lieutenant Colonel John Janes has
attended Police War Studies Course, no details of a result how-
ever, can be obtained from the aforementioned gentleman.
We have said farewell to WOl Jim Gordon, W02 Bill
French KOSB, Sergeant ' Yorkie Bar' Brough RCT, and wel-
come to W02 Jimmie Scott KOSB and Sergeant Les Johnson
RCT« Private Marvin Bargrove successfully completed a Class 3
clerks course at the School and promptly found himself working
for the School Chief Clerk. He was quick to point out that
the course had not taught him how to reply to the Com-
mandant's invitation to Mess, functions, Mr Graham please note
TRAINING SYSTEMS ADVISORY
BRANCH
TSAB is responsible for advising the Commander, Training
Centre on all aspects of training, within the Corps. We have
adopted the Systems Approach to training and are involved
in Job Analysis, preparation of Training Objectives, design of
Courses, and production of Employment Tests. Training is
concerned with fitting a man to do a job. A great deal of our
work includes External Validation, to ensure we are doing
things in the most effective and efficient manner. We are
situated in South Minden House, which is across the road from
the Training Centre.
The Branch has at its head T the Training Development
Adviser, Major Colin Beet RAEC. Major John Nichols (Retd)
is the Training Development Officer and Captain Claude Lilley
the Training Evaluation Officer.
The Branch comprises three Training Development Sections,
each tasked with responsibilities to all the employments within
the Corps. TDS 1 is manned by Mr Fuzz Coleman and
Sergeant Pete Sissons, who are currently working on Technical
Clerk Employment TDS 2 is under the control of WOl Graham
Jones, who is assisted by W02 Paul Clithero and Sergeant
Pat Colbeck, they are presently analysing the results of the first
three, revised, Storemen/Women courses, which they have
just designed. TDS 3 consists of W02 Jack Barratt, Staff Sergeant
Lewis Bowker, due a posting to BAOR in November and
Sergeant Pete Smith, who are working feverishly on the All
Arms Clerk courses. They are all ably assisted by the Train-
ing Evalution Section, who are responsible for all external and
internal validation of course results. This section consists of Mr
Terry Baker, Mrs Nora Cross and Mr Brian Langford. The
clerical back up is in the hands of Lance Corporal Diane
Hilliard, who is in the process of handing over to Lance
Corporal Lynda Sartin, prior to leaving us to become a
civilian.
Although we are a small Unit we can still boast about our
celebrities, who include a Combined Services and Army rugby
player, an accomplished Badminton player, two fanatical
Golfers^ two good Cricketers, and several Squash players, but
more about them in future issues.
We have, at last, got our name in print so look out for
further mention of The Folks Who Live In The Wood. In-
cidentally, we are situated inside a first class camping site, as
the Commander Base Organisation remarked recently after
spending three weeks here, in his caravan.
RECRUITING
LIAISON
WE say welcome to Major P. G. Inman who has arrived to
take over as CRLO from Major Dace who has departed to
Manchester University to swot over his sums.
The Corps Mobile Display Team has arrived safely back
in location after an extensive and exhausting tour of the
country.

Bar.
The Godfather W02 Tony Moreman decided we needed
another prohibition era on the coffee stakes, which means that
G Branch swims in it and AQ and Ordnance and EME Services
have to smuggle their own in from outside agencies.
In G Branch Corporal Evan Douglas has finally received
his posting order to 6 Field Force in Costa De La Aldershot,
but before he goes he is going to Jamaica for a month so
he can get a good sun tan. Lance Corporal John (Kung-Fu)
Wallace has just returned from the Regimental Depot after
successfully completing his B2 to Bl upgrading course.
Our Brigade Ordnance Officer Captain Tony Dalby-Welsh
has got his feet firmly under the table, which we think is to hide
Sergeants John Foey and Rose Martin on their wedding day.
the rugby boots he permanently wears. He captains the 8
Brigade Headquarters and Signal Squadron (Waterats) team,
for future courses. Finally the photograph shows our ' pride *
which includes his clerk, BEME, and his clerk, leaving Ord-
of Class 3 clerical instructors, Sergeant John Foey RAOC and
nance and EME Services deserted whenever there is a train-
Sergeant Rose Martin WRAC on their wedding day in August,
ing session.
