Major General Trant congratulates W 2 Moreman after present-
ing him with the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal,
We welcome Captain David Wright who joins the Mush-
.ooms as a Brigade Watchkeeper from West Midland District.
We hope he enjoys his tour with us.
ORDNANCE DEPOT NORTHERN IRELAND
REFRESHED from their summer hols no doubt, the visitors
and inspectors have been flooding in this month. The only
matter of real note is the smug look on the face of Corporal
' Pete * Wilson after the Documentation Team had left We
don't know what they said to him but we are sure he is not
normally used to such flattery.
To even up matters, winter sports are now well under way,
the football team emerged from their first league game of the
season with a meritorious 2-2 draw against 3 Brigade Head-
quarters and Signal Squadron. It would appear that the arduous
training is at last paying dividends. The rugby team are still
looking for their first win but results are improving and the
optimists are insistent that it is only a matter of time before
we overcome this losing streak. Although some of the stalwarts
from last season's hockey team have departed we still managed
:o record the first win of the season in a Friendly against Lis-
:um Garrison by three goals to one. We deny most em-
phatically, allegations by the RAOC members of the opposition
that we had bribed the Umpire and wish to stress that the Com-
manding Officer would not accept the offer.
The high spot of this months more formal entertainment
was a very successful band concert held in the Sergeants Mess.
We are very grateful to the band of the North Irish Horse
who provided the music. The benefits of sending Sergeant
* Reg' Browne on his Master Chef's Course were very apparent
on that occasion^and several others throughout the month.
Congratulations this month to Lance Corporal and Mrs
Mark Jones on the birth of their son and to Corporal Ken
Bayley on his promotion.
We welcome Corporal Epton, Lance Corporal Mulligan,
Private Petrozzi and Lance Corporal Brown RPC, and hope they
enjoy their stay with us.
Farewell and bon voyage to Captain Bolt and family and
Private Den man.
AMMUNITION SUB-DEPOT NORTHERN IRELAND
SINCE our last appearance we have ( lost' Corporal and Mrs
Banks, Private Brummy Austin, Sergeant and Mrs Pete Baker,
and with them all go our best wishes for the future. Mean-
while their places have been taken by Corporal Epton and
Private Taffy Fallon.
We have had varying successes on the sporting side with
our hockey, football and rugby players. Even one of the lady
members of our staff has taken up fishing as a sport—or so
she tells us! Sergeant Jock Murray is desperately trying to
get a tan in preparation for his next job in Hong Kong and
Staff Sergeant Ron Barnes is busily counting up the money he
would have made had he been going there instead of Alder-
••hot, while W02 Len Rowland continues to wait for his posting
order, his nails and temper gets shorter. Throughout all this
excitement the civilian staff carry on, they have seen it all
before.
HEADQUARTERS
WITH the implementation of the Army
Training Directive on Physical Efficiency
tests
there seems to have been a marked
absence
°f Clerks and Officers alike on
Wednesday afternoons, indeed the standard
^ r e s s a P P e a r s t b e t r a c k s u ^- It i s worth
noting that our Superintending Clerk, Con-
due tor Ian Leggatt, and W02 George Dey
have recently succeeded in passing the
Physical Efficiency test with flying colours.
It is even rumoured that Staff Sergeant Alan Stanistreet is
thinking of investing in a track suit.
Congratulations are in order for Sergeant Paul Ladley on
becoming the RAOC Golf Society Foursome Champion for
1977. He was also victorious in the A AC Championship match
a few days later.
Staff Sergeant Roy Sumner's Headquarters UKLF soccer
team managed to draw 2-2 with RAF Boscombe Down in their
opening game of the season. Roy's efforts in getting a team
together for this season, under great difficulties, are indeed
commendable. In fact, he was so hard up that at one stage it
looked as though it was going to be necessary to have Sergeant
Mick Ellis and W02 Alan Braithwaite playing. Even Sergeant
Sid Bell and W02 John Grigsby were limbering up awaiting
recall.
We welcome Sergeant Dick Walsh on posting in from
Berlin in place of Sergeant Tony Houghton in Q Operations,
Also Conductor Bill Woodhouse who has joined the Army
Management Work Study Team.
Congratulations are offered to Corporal Pete Maile of the
Public Relations Section on promotion to Sergeant.
ORDNANCE BRANCH
THE reason for the quiet period those of us in the Branch are
currently enjoying becomes self evident when you examine the
' In * and * Out' board. I don*t want to suggest that we are
making a bid for Cooks Tours but: Brigadier Smith has had a
few days in Denmark visiting Exercise Arrow Express. Major
John Cogley is in Suffield. Major Harry Parry is on his way
to the same place. Bill Rogers has just returned from Belize.
