Transcription rest and recuperation was spent window-shopping and sightseeing
in Copenhagen, Danish prices shocked everyone and made
souvenir hunting difficult. If an? weapon enthusiasts ever visit
the Danish capital then a day in the Arsenal Museum is very
worthwhile. Back in the exercise location Captain Graham
Grant and Staff Sergeant Ken Lee found local elderberries and
plums (wild of course) for their wine-making! Sergeant Dave
Heath and Lance Corporal John Edwards managed to spend
an extra week on Zealand to assist with the second logistic
exercise, much to the envy of other 221 Platoon members.
With a multi million pound rebuild now well under way
and the first of the new type storage igloos nearing its com-
pletion, a series of liaison visits have been arranged for Warwick
County Fire Brigade personnel to familiarise the crews with the
project area and indeed with CAD Kineton.
A tour of the Depot in a Rail Fire Appliance of the Army
Fire Brigade creates a great deal of interest; CAD Kineton
has two of these appliances of which only seven exists, all
serving in Ammunition Depots. It is much appreciated by the
Warwick County Fire Brigade as it is, in many cases, the only
means of transportation into the explosive area.
On the recent exercise held with the Warwick County Fire
Brigade at CAD Kineton the crews soon realised the amcmnt of
travel and hard work the Rail Fire Appliances were capable of
producing and indeed are relied upon to do during an incident.
It is proposed that, as stages of the rebuild are completed,
Warwick County Fire Brigade will carry out visits to keep them.
up to date. In the past few weeks several senior officers and
over one hundred personnel have been introduced to CAD
Kineton.
Yet again the CAD Kineton Sergeants Mess have won the
Headquarters Base Organisation six-a-side football competition.
After a poor start in the league games the team rose to the
occasion and beat Chilwell in the semi-final by 4-0. The final
was an exciting game against Bicester which we eventually won
5-2 with a Hat Trick being scored by Sergeant Andy Smith.
The team was:—Staff Sergeants Mitchell, Boscott, Lead-
beater and Kerr, Sergeants Smith, English, Allen and Edwards.
The Kineton Sergeant's Mess six-a-side
Seven teams took part in the competition Kineton winning
by fourteen points from CVD Ashchurch. Worthy of mention
is Private Stcrland's fine achievement in breaking two Corps
records.

HEADQUARTERS
DURING a visit by the Quarter-Master-General, Long Service
and Good Conduct Medals were presented to WOl Bedwell
Royal Signals and Corporal Downing.
The month has been full of happenings. The Officers
versus Sergeants Pitch and Putt Competition was held and
by careful card marking the result was drawn and finally decided
by a game of darts which concluded in a win for the Officers,
thanks to the javelin throwing style and accuracy of Captain
Jeremy Parsons.
As a prelude to our Regimental Weekend, the Officers Mess
held their Annual Cocktail Party, entertaining a galaxy of
local dignitaries and friends. A very pleasant evening was en-
joyed by all.
VEHICLE DEPOT ASHCHURCH
THE week-end 9th—1 Ith September was rather special The
Officers Mess held a cocktail party to entertain local dignitaries,
which included three Mayors. We had the annual Ashchurch
fete followed by a dance, both these functions were a great
success and thanks are due to those civilians and military staff
who worked so hard to make them so. The Sunday saw an
Ashchurch Garrison eleven playing a gentlemanly game of
cricket against the Mayor of Tewkesbury Eleven, which the
Mayor's side won by a few runs.
The swimming team did well in the Corps championships,
coming overall second to Kineton. Congratulations to Private
Thornhill who came first in the one hundred yards freestyle
and second in the two hundred yards freestyle.
WOl Bennet and Lance Corporal Wylle have left us for
BAOR, Corporal Kennard for Belize and Sergeants Harper and
McMahon for civilian life. We wish them good luck. Wel-
come to WOl Ball and Lance Corporals Bonsue and Colak from
BAOR also Privates Heath, Kerstein, Pitcher and Terrell from
the Training Centre. Congratulations to Private Duffy on his
marriage to Miss Melanie Davies.
In conclusion W02 Pete Roberts is denying the story going
about the Depot that, he is involved in a trial for the latest
vehicle to be introduced for use by the Army Fire Service. He
has, of late, been seen pedalling around the Depot on a bright
red G1098 bike. He is sticking to his story that it is to deter
pilfering. (His steed when painted army green was * borrowed'
twice in the past month and found minus pedals and with a
broken saddle.)
VEHICLE DEPOT LUDGERSHALL
A PLEASANT change in our routine this month wa& the visit of
87 Ordnance Officer's Course. They stayed the full day and
as well as seeing all the various functions, were fortunate enough
to try out the hardware on the test track,
Major David Humphrey, our OC, was recently seen run-
ning the three miles to Tidworth! If I simply mention it has
something to do with the DGOS's Keep Fit Policy f m certain
the majority of readers will understand.
Football is again the latest sport to seek recognition due
to the keenness of Sergeant * Mike * Feehan—who hails from
the Depot Kit Stores. He reckons we have the ' makings' for
a good team and is very busy seeking opponents for us in
order to put his theory into practice.
The departures and arrivals this month show Sergeants
Hogg and Harrison, Corporals Lumb and Wright, Lance Corporal
Condie, Privates Fudge and Ormrod as ' out * and Corporal
Smith and Private Lomas ' In.'
Congratulations this month to Lance Corporal and Mrs
Condie—a baby boy—Daniel on the 12th September.
foot-ball team.
We are happy to announce the arrival of a baby girl, Clare,
for W02 and Mrs Young and also a baby girl, Helen, for
Private and Mrs Little.
We are also happy to announce the award of the Queen's
Gallantry Medal to Staff Sergeant Kerr and Sergeant Silvester
for services in Northern Ireland. Congratulations also go to
Lance Corporal Gilbert on promotion to the acting rank. We
say farewell to Corporals Kelly, Epton and Mason on posting,
Corporals Nicholls and Wetherill on discharge. Lance Corporal
Cock on detachment to Cyprus, Corporals Elliott, Nicholaides
and Corr on detachment to Northern Ireland and Private Cook
on posting. We greet Staff Sergeant Craddock, Corporals
Maslen, Drew and Busby, Lance Corporal McDonald, Privates
Blythe, Elliott, Howard and Shepherd.
For the first time ever an inter-company swimming com-
petition was held to select a team for the RAOC champion-
ships. A, B, C/HQ and 522 Companies took part and the
WRAC also had their own competition. After some fine swim-
ming performances the eventual winners were C/HQ Com-
pany. The Kineton team then took part in the RAOC cham-
pionships at Aldershot

VEHICLE DEPOT HILTON
MR GEORGE GORTON who is the Joint Secretary of the
Industrial Whitley and a member of the Depot Efficiency Com-
mittee recently attended the Trade Union Congress. He was a
member of the Transport and General Workers Union Delega-
tion and those readers with good eyesight may have noticed
him in television news amongst those delegates who were
temporarily suspended.
Overheard in the Depot Management Accountant's Office.
"Are you sure this is the correct
specification?*' "Yes." "You

know that it is July?" " Yes.' " Well how many windscreens
did you defrost then?"
