Transcription Sergeant * Bing' (what else) Crosbie and wife Joan are on
r ir congratulations list this month due to the arrival on 29th
uguxt of a baby daughter Alice—we all wish them well.
WOl Alec Marshall is noUceable by his absence. He is
>.pending three weeks at the Training Centre on an Introduction
to Management Course, Meanwhile, Sergeant Curly Thynne
is assisting his AAC Squadron in BATUS yet again, and Private
Tim Murphy has been given the responsibility of escorting a
prisoner back to UK (there are three others with him). He
drew up his own personal handcuffs, truncheon and running
shoes prior to departure!
Welcome back to Corporal Steve Boulton from Operations
Banner, nice lo have a touch of class about the place again,
and farewell to W 2 Roger Crisp who leaves us soon for
Operation Banner, good luck, and to Captain David Caldwell
: ow on his basic Ordnance Officers Course, which we under-
hand includes a certain amount of instruction on ammunition,
no comment!
Walsrode has been very quiet recently. Perhaps the fact
that Captain Haydn Schofield was holidaying in Italy had some-
thing to do with it. More likely however is the fact that the
detachment has taken over the ' upstairs' from the Bundeswehr
and was busily transforming it into a night club.
Their success in this venture was clear when a social
evening was held to say farewell to W02 Les Brown off to
Belize then DLSA, (what a contrast!), and to W02 Ron Davis
i* on promotion to Kinetotfc

STORES SUB-DEPOT
VIERSEN
THE long damp summer is over and Viersen chiefs and Indians
are back in the fold, not bronzed maybe, but refreshed for
the arduous months ahead.
On the 1st September the Commandant, Colonel Pain,
handed over the chains of office to Colonel Edwards and slowly
drove through the gate to three cheers from Viersenites young
and old, both military and civilian, who will miss his keen
interest in their welfare.
Planning and Work Study Unit BAOR
TWENTY FIVE PER CENT of the Unit were awarded their
Long Service and Good Conduct Medals at a small Unit
presentation this month, by the DOS BAOR, Brigadier Crawley.
The worthy recipients are shown below prior to the traditional
' wetting.' They are from left to right Sergeant Nobby Gaunt,
SSM Dave Stott and Captain John Print. Obvious remarks like
' See No Evil' etc are not welcome. The citation made interest-
ng listening with John Print receiving the prize for progress,
Dave Stott the prize for digress and Nobby Gaunt the prize
for duress.
Photo Herr L.r\ki Kleine.
The ceremony obviously had an effect on SSM Mat Hudson
who immediately wrote a plea of mitigation for the waiver
of a small blot of some sixteen years ago. The plea reduced
the OC to tears, his fellow WSOs to amazed silence and our
German Chief Clerk, Frau Shroers, to laughter. We hope to
bear good tidings of Mat's literary endeavours in future notes.
Back to the workload which has seen Conductor John
Alford, SSM Sandy Berinett and SQMS Brian Shepherd being
ejected with the PWSU travelling bug and visiting Bielefeld.
vlr Jim Hillary, SQMS Rod Harban and SQMS Bill Cooke
are commuting daily to Bracht, the remainder of us listen in
astonishment to the painful experiences of SSM Dave Ash-
worth and SQMS Dave Thomas who returned with their families
from holiday on the nudist beaches of Denmark ready for
recuperation leave,
Welcome to Carol Alford and Barbara Bennett with
families, we know you will have an enjoyable tour—even with
the occasional loss of your respective husbands on their various
travels.
The sporting side of the Unit seems to be losing its golf
addiction with only three players left.
Tennis is discussed
openly without abuse, squash has been mentioned fervently
and Lance Corporal Terry Kennedy has donned his SSD
Viersen shirt again for the football season.
Major C. F, Harmer, Lieutenant Colonel D. A, Rfield, Lieutenant
Colonel M. J, H. Connolly, Colonel A. W . E. Pain and Colonel
D. Reynolds (Retd), at the Commandants dining out in Windberg
Mess, on 11th August.
The new Commandant, the whisper has it, is a champion
of physical culture. The spartan zeal of our inmates should
pleasantly surprise him.
Corporals Charlie Charlton and Stan Burke against very
stiff opposition, have won the RAOC (BAOR) tennis doubles
championship and Corporal Charlton also won the RAOC
BAOR singles championship. Well done!
The Badgers rugby squad have started off the season
quietly. To date we have lost one and won two.
Our hockey team, having won the Rhine Area Third
Division title last season, have moved a step higher into the
Second Division. In preparation for the new season two warm
up matches were played against First Division teams both of
which resulted in a 2-1 win. The season started on the 14th
September with an away game against 28 Signal Regiment.
During the first ten minutes it looked as if we were in for a
hiding but as the game progressed the team settled down and
gave as good as they got. After many missed opportunities by
both sides, the end result was a fair 1-1 draw. With a squad
of nineteen players we are hopeful of a good season, winning
more games than we lose, but enjoying every match we play.
Congratulations to WOl Joe and Myleoe Murray on the
birth of baby Andrew on 23rd August, at R A F Wegberg.
Welcome to Sergeant John Bradley, Sergeant * Taff * Woods
and Corporal John Ruscoe.
Farewell to WOl ' Stu' Hudson, Corporal Alan Licence
and Private Terry Allen.

MOENCHENGLADBACH
HIGHLIGHTING the visits to the VSD this month was that of
the new Commandant of 15 COD, Colonel Edwards, whom we
asked to present Long Service and Good Conduct Medals to
both AQMS Fred Brierley REME and Sergeant Tom Martin.
In addition, both Mrs Brierley and Mrs Martin (no doubt both
of whom were responsible for their better halfs good conduct)
received bouquets of flowers from Colonel Edwards,
The end of the summer was signified not by the colder
weather, but by the fact that the local NAAFI have Christmas
cards displayed on the shelves! Customers should be advised
to order Easter eggs now to avoid disappointment! !
On the sporting scene, the Unit have four soccer players
who have been selected to represent the Corps (BAOR). In
the last friendly game against RAOC Wulfen, Staff Sergeant
