TECHNICAL EQUIPMENTS
DIVISION DONNINGTON
LIFE is so tranquil at present in
Donnington that all we have of note
is in the nature of two follow up
stories on the October edition of
THE GAZETTE. Firstly Staff Sergeant
Mel Hamilton was reported as
having removed his moustache. He has now been obliged to
go to the o&er extreme and grow a very dignified full set. This
was caused by a facial injury occasioned by attempting to ad-
just the slow running jet of a car with his teeth or some such
tale. RSM Slater has been looking for a suitable fire axe and
wondering whether we are entitled to a Pioneer Sergeant under
Fair Value.
Secondly we note that under the Officers Postings section
we were due to receive Lieutenant Colonel John Gentle in
November 1977. We always thought there was something
dubious about the chap we have had with us for the past
twelve months.
Captain Peter Veal is to be congratulated on his selection
for a Regular Commission. His elation was short lived as the
next day two of his daughters announced their intention of
getting married in the same month. This is particularly galling
as he has only just found out that Donnington is not the Depot
near Gretna Green,
We welcome Corporal Willy Baxter and Lance Corporal
Dick Parkinson to the Division. We are sure that their stay
with us will be a happy and satisfying one. We wish Corporal
Mike Stewart the very best of good fortune on his posting on
promotion to the Stores Section of 22 Light Air Defence Regi-
ment Royal Artillery.
Our American exchange officer Lieutenant Colonel John
Kostoff is now fully restored to health and vigour. He is firmly
back in the saddle of his yellow racing bicycle (Japanese made)
and has reassumed his position in the ranks of the Geriatrics*
Physical Training Squad* If only we could teach him to salute
properly our cup would overflow.
We have recently had the privilege of inspecting Colonel
Lloyd Davies* extensive and immaculate garden. It is most
creditable for a novice and one can only wonder what could
be achieved if he really tried.
Training Centre
HEADQUARTERS
THE Headquarters is now back to full strength after the leave
period. The Commander held a Mobilisation presentation on
the 24th/25th September which was attended by all officers,
WOs and SNCOs of the Training Centre and included guest
speakers from civilian organisations.
The Training Centre was visited by Air Chief Marshal Sir
Ruthven Wade Chief of Personnel and Logistics, who was
accompanied by the DGOS. All organisations within the Train-
ing Centre were visited and the day ended with the Air Chief
Marshal taking tea with wives of personnel in the Training
Centre.
We are glad to see that Major Cooke is now back at work.
The Training Centre football team have so far played two
matches in Division 1 of the South East District League and
lost both—but the signs are encouraging,
The presentation of a clasp and rosette to the TAVR Efficiency
Medal for Staff Sergeant Cardnell TAVR*
The presentation
took place during the 1977 Summer Training Camp of 134
Vehicle Platoon in Cyprus and was performed by Lieutenant
Colonel M. L. Math 3ms, RAQC* Commander RAOC Cyprus.
and eleven Clerical Assistants. As a reward for many long
hours of work over the past few months, Lance Corporal Rolf
recently enjoyed a two week camp in Cyprus with 134 Vehicle
Platoon, and after spreading the word, he found on his return
that he is shortly to be posted to UNFICYP for a six months
tour.
A walk along the corridor from Record Branch and one
cannot fail to meet W02 Powell, who runs what he calls ' team
impossible,' the impossible team consisting of Sergeant Benson
who is a conscientious supporter of British Ley I and, Corporal
Tangen whose only deficits are a wooden leg and a parrot and
Lance Corporal Jones who has just registered a plug for his
second stripe! On the training side all the PSls are still in-
volved in RAOC TAVR Recruits Courses, which contrary to
rumour, are not really being run just because RSM Hendry
likes them. Staff Sergeant Foster our laundry expert, views
remarks such as 'Mr Rub-a-Dub-Dub* with disdain> but seriously
how did he manage that posting to Hong Kong? Apart from
the Chief Clerk, Sergeant Morris, the PS Is office seems to be
empty most of the time these days with Staff Sergeant Pitts al-
most resident at Chilwell or absent playing Corps,Rugby, and
Staff Sergeant Young out of the office suffering from a severe
attack of Recruits Course mutter.
Many congratulations to Sergeant Morris on his recent
marriage and to Lance Corporal Jones on his promotion. Wel-
come to our new R03, Major M.. McLellan (Retd), and to
Sergeant King who is to fill the rather hot coord seat in
Records Branch.
CENTRAL VOLUNTEER HEADQUARTERS
WE have bowed to the pressure of Records Branch and decided
to give them a mention in this edition of THE GAZETTE. WOl
Clark is our man in 'Records' and he is ably assisted by
Lance Corporal Rolf, they are just part of the military representa-
tion in a Headquarters that boasts some nine Clerical Officers

SCHOOL OF ORDNANCE
THE last Long Ordnance Officers Course dispersed on 14th
October. They were a great bunch and, perhaps conscious that
they were making a bit of history, contributed much to the social
life of the School as well as to their studies. They will be
greatly missed but we console ourselves with the thought that
perhaps in their ranks is a future DGOS.
Exercise Tigers Teeth held over the weekend 21st to 23rd
October saw a small but significant contribution from the School
Staff in the shape of Staff Officers and Watchkeepers.
A
certain amount of diffidence was apparent early on over the
use of radio, but confidence grew steadily over the weekend cul-
minating in one unnamed Watchkeeper referring to the GOC
SOED1ST as Sunray Super Duper.
The DGOS Study Period is occupying much of our time
nowadays and the place seems full of strange faces wearing
important hats. Two elements of the School are exercised more
than most; Brigadier Bob Persson who puts in long hours in
