HEADQUARTERS RAOC
WO I DAVE BRUNT our FTOWO has
had a sudden increase in octane rating as
a result of his attendance at the POL
Familiarization Course. We understand
from Units he visits that he k inspects
their jerricans with a renewed gravity'
and experiences no difficulty in * crack-
ing' their Civgas problems. This new
' additive' in his versatile role warrants,
in our opinion, his being given a four star
rating, which we trust, will not go to his head and lower his
" flash point,' or more appropriately higher his * viscosity.'
Ugh! What a centistroke.
We welcome transferees Corporal Geordie Allen ex RMP
and Private Brian Marsden ex Royal Signals into the Corps.
The newcomers were presented with RAOC Northern Ireland
ties by Lieutenant Colonel G< B. Berragan, AQMG Northern
Ireland, who kindly performed this little ceremony on behalf of
CRAOC.
The winners of the Northern Ireland Safe Driving Competition.
Transfers in Corporal Geordie Allan and Private Brian Marsden
get their RAOC Northern Ireland ties.
Congratulations to WOl Dave Longley and W02 Kevin
Hartley on their promotions.
All ranks in Northern Ireland wish our CRAOC, Lieu-
tenant Colonel O'Dea, a speedy recovery to full health.
Ably led by the hirsute Staff Griffiths (when not coaching
his foaiball team to yet more * victories'!) our all-star team
comprises Corporals Steve Warren and Pete Stankovic who is
shortly to leave us for the worldly delights of West Moors,
and Lance Corporal Graham Chambers who drives his large
Honda in shirt-sleeves in order to obtain a few days bedded
down in Palace Barracks.
Our RPC detachment is shortly to leave us for ' home,*
doubtless its members will review with nostalgia the parade of
memories engendered by filling jerricans in the Summer rain
(and the Autumn rain), and will pass on those tips which will en-
able their replacements to carry on through the Winter rain and
the Spring rain!
North East District
ORDNANCE DEPOT NORTHERN IRELAND
WE emerge from a shoal of visitors and inspections, both great
and small, to our latest ' piece de resistance *—the redoubtable
achievement of our drivers in winning the Northern Ireland Safe
and Skilled Driving Competition from a large entry. The
drivers, W02 Crosland, Sergeant Abrams and Corporal Warner,
were exercised in manoeuvring skill, roadcraft and knowledge
of the highway code. Throughout the competition they were
well supported by their navigartors CSM McCormick, Sergeant
Kempster and Lance Corporal Hadley. Congratulations to all
especially Corporal Warner who finished first in the Land
Rover class*
Draws for the hockey and football teams and a defeat by
only four points at rugby would seem to indicate that we are
starting to improve our sporting prowess. Encouraged by these
results all three teams go forward into cup battles with con-
fidence abounding.
Congratulations to Captain Pettier and his wife Jackie on
the birth of their son Thomas.
We welcome Corporal Leech and Private McFarlane and
Privates Johnson and Brampton RPC and wish them a pleasant
tour.
Farewell to Sergeant Laing and family who have left the
greeneries of this fair isle for pastures new in Canada—some
pasture!
Our special feature this month comes from that centre
of hard work, integrity and cheerful countenance, the POL
Section.
Although, unable to match the VSD's versifying talents (no
time!) or the tea-drinking capacity of the rest of the Depot
we can at least show an impressive list of blisters to awe the
casual visitor.

BRIGADIER SMITH paid his first visit
to the District since assuming the appoint-
ment of Chief Ordnance Officer. Accom-
panied by the CRAOC, Colonel Wisdom,
he visited RAOC Units in the District in-
cluding an evening visit to 50 Ordnance
Support Battalion RAOC (V). The COO
met officers and their wives at a drinks
party in the District Officers Mess.
Colonel David Wisdom retired on
the 14th November after serving the Army for thirty five years
in many varied appointments. In the last sixteen years he filled
appointments as DADOS AAC, ADOS HQ Army Aviation,
ADOS HQ 1 (BR) Corps, DD/DCA and finally CRAOC North
East District. Colonel David will be missed not only for his
guidance in every day work but for his and Monica's great
contribution to the social and welfare activities that arise,
whether military or civilian. David and Monica were first to visit
or offer assistance and comfort to anyone who had sickness or
any personal hardship thrust upon them. We wish them
many years of happy retirement and trust that we shall continue
to have their company at future Corps functions whenever
they may be able to attend.
Welcome to our new CRAOC Lieutenant Colonel Ian
Hardie. We trust that he, his wife Jean and family will have
a happy tour in Yorkshire, Welcome also to Major Peter
Aggett who has taken over the duties of Major Bob Nesbitt,
who has left us for Thatcham.
Sorry to report that Lieutenant Colonel Bill Cochrane
(Retd) is in hospital. Bill has now had the necessary operation
to put things right and we trust that we shall see him fit and
about again in the course of the next couple of weeks.
