Headquarters BAOR
MOST of our space this month has been generously donated
to Q Branch.
The clerical star! of Q Branch really have no pretensions
for the bright lights—that is something for the staffs of the G
and A Branches. We have tended therefore in the past to take
a back seat and remain anonymous. This state of affairs must
now come to an end for we have been asked to declare our-
selves !
At central control is your scribe, sometimes Superintending
Clerk and sometimes Staff Assistant, WOl John Morrisroe. Also
at central control, acting as personal assistant to the DQMG
is Staff Sergeant Ged Mead, shortly to leave on promotion
when he will join Headquarters 3rd Division as Chief Clerk AQ.
At the wheel in AQ Operations and Planning is W02 Barry
Wilson, late Heavy Drop (rumour has it that he is shortly to
leave the Army, having now made enough from moonlighting to
retire in comfort!). Barry is ably assisted by Staff Sergeant
Pete Russell, Sergeant *Adge * Cutler and Corporal John Lindsay,
plus on temporary loan from Q E Man, Sergeant Doug Mc-
Innes,
Organising the effort in Q Org/E Man is recent arrival Staff
Sergeant Ted Deacon who, having spent the last three years
with the Intelligence Corps, considers himself well qualified
for any appointment This makes (horse) sense considering his
background—the rumour has it that he transferred from the
Blues and Royals. He is assisted by Lance Corporal Mick
Patterson.
Last, but certainly not least in any way, is Quartering.
Our builder here is W02 Dave Voice and his support from the
Corps consists of Sergeant Bert Eastwood and Sergeant Stuart
May.
Do we manage to give full clerical support to some thirty
six officers in Q with so few Staff Clerks? Of course we don't.
We have our lovely ladies, both WRAC and civilian, the
majority of the latter being dependants of servicemen,
I cannot end without mentioning, for those who have
served here, that Milly is still with us; in good fettle and still
with a couple of years to serve with us yet. We will miss her
when the time for her retirement comes.
Back in Ordnance Directorate, Christmas party planning has
been finalised for a couple of months now and it would not be
surprising that as you read these notes we will be feeling the
strain of our ambitious plans. We'll let you know how things
went in a later issue.
Arrivals: W02 L. M. Stuppel, Staff Sergeant E. S. Deacon,
Sergeant A. R. Craig and Private M. A, Banner.
Departures: Lieutenant Colonel J. A. Jackson, Major J. A.
Waldren on retirement, WOs2 D. R. Page and I. Cook, Sergeant
D. Gratton, Corporals J. L. Claughton and V, J. Siddiqui.

BAOR Ammunition Inspectorate
HERFORD. After successful completion of BE tests and with a
few surprising results, the Unit entered a team in the annual Bis-
mark race, a six man relay, each team member running approxi-
mately four kilometres over hilly terrain. The team was captained
by Staff Sergeant George Ferguson and Major Bruce Owen,
Sergeant ' Bing' Crosbie, Corporals Mick Stripe, John Frew and
David Cotterill made up the team. On the day all members
acquitted themselves very well and the team finished thirtieth of
thirty one teams, most of which were representing major unite
from all over 4 Division. A very good effort for such a small
unit, he said, tugging his forelock.
Our Unit club room has been transformed into an * Olde
English Pub,' (in BAOR, what else?). All members of the Unit
had a hand in it somewhere and the combined effort through-
out a weekend and a week of nights has proved very worth-
while. The main contributors to the finished job were Cap-
tain Dick Jordan, Design Consultant BA (Calcutta—Failed),
Corporal ' Mac' Macdonald (Interior Decor), Corporal Mick
Stripe (saw, hammer and screwdriver), Corporal John Frew
(painter and timber erector) and of course Private * Spud'
Murphy (foreman, shop steward and barman extraordinaire).
Captain Dick's enthusiasm and aptitude with a pencil was the
motivating force and his supply of knick-knacks for walls and
shelves must leave his quarter all but empty.
A small Unit ' d o ' was spontaneously arranged when the
final touches had been added and a good turnout resulted in a
very enjoyable evening of darts, dice and backgammon. (They
didn't play that in the pubs I went to in England!).
Avid followers of this saga may not be aware that we
instituted a * Gronker of the Month' award in the Inspectorate.
Captain David Caldwell won it first—we won't say why. Last
