Transcription being Lance Corporal Gatley who is slightly faster than most
people,
Forthcoming interesting marches are the AFCENT Queens
Silver Jubilee March and the 'Three Countries,' which are
France, Germany and Belgium, during December and January.
The Unit is amalgamating for social marches with the Rhein-
dahlen Allied Marchers (RAMS) and the single element are
showing keen interest. ^Perhaps the WRAF have something to
do with this t
A welcome back to Major Dai Jones after a spell in
hospital. He made an amazing recovery and the number of
visitors he had must warrant an entry into the Guinness Book
of Records!
Finally, farewell to W02 Thomas, Sergeant Coomber ACC,
Private Donaldson, Corporal Ryder and Private Cronshaw.
Congratulations to SSM Henwood and Staff Sergeant Mc-
Naught, Sergeant Sorrenson and Lance Corporal Young on their
respective promotions.
A warm VSD welcome to Privates Rose, Judge and Mc-
Intyre*
Stork News: Congratulations to Lance Corporal and Mrs
Gillolt on the birth of a girl, Sarah Louise and to Private and
Mrs Cowell on the birth of a boy, Stuart Alan.
Marriages: Congratulations to Private Lambert on his
marriage to Miss Karen Longbottom and to Private Littlejohn
on his marriage to Miss Lorraine Towler.
Stop Press: Order your GAZETTE now—next month features
"The Great Race!".
The Bracht golfing fraternity continue to enjoy at least some
success, even after ' duffing * the Summer league, SSM Pete
Emerton, now playing off thirteen, managed to 'acquire' two
prizes in the Rhine Area Autumn Meeting and was also runner-
up in the Club Corinthian Trophy. Sergeant Bryan Dawson
and Corporal Alex Livingstone were both successful in Monthly
Medals at Bruggen and now play off eleven and eighteen
respectively.
The Bracht Barbarians started off their defence of the
Double Diamond Cup with a resounding twenty four to ten
win over Dusseldorf Dragons. The Unit also won their first
round game in the Army (BAOR) Major Units Cup, versus 21
Signal Regiment, by seventy six points to nil. In the RAOC
(BAOR) versus RAF(G) match held at Bracht, 3 BAPD provided
no less than twelve players in the winning team,
Congratulations to Corporal and Mrs Spencer on the birth
of their son, also to the following on their promotions: RSM
Clarke and W02 Richardson (Acting), SSM Emerton, W02
Cosway, Staff Sergeants Gregory and VVase, Lance Corporals
Dawes and Little, all substantive.
Arrivals-. RSM Clarke, W02 Cosway, Staff Sergeant Gott,
Corporals Bradshaw, King, Lawrence, Lumb, McShane, Morris,
Spink and Turner, Lance Corporals Anderson, Brown (ACQ and
Mayers and Private Bargrove.
Departures: W02 Barker, Staff Sergeant McCarrick,
Corporals Blakeley, Coull, Dawson, Pullen and Snell, Lance
Corporals Trayford and Whitehill (ACC) and Private Mallett.
3 Base Ammunition and Petroleum Depot
3 BAPD have again hosted three high-ranking officers this
month. The visitors were the Chief of Staff Northag, Major
General K. von der Osten; The Engineer in Chief, Major
General C. P. Campbell and the Commander Rhine Area,
Brigadier J. G Moore.
The first shoot of the season took place in the Am-
munition Depot during October. The guests consisted of local
landowners and dignitaries. Major Reggie von Zugbach de
Sugg was elected to the Local Hunters' Brotherhood and claims
not to remember much of the evening that followed. The
Unit was aware that something was on however, for hunting
horns were heard to echo from the Officers Mess Annex with
increasing frequency as the evening progressed.
The sessions of Continuation Training have been enjoyed
by (nearly) everyone 4i who attended. Staff Sergeant Mick Ban
was heard to utter Pause, two three '* in between coughs and
splutters on leaving the gas chamber. Congratulations are due
to the Training Wing for an interesting course.
The Unit now boasts a new RSM. Mrs Anne Boughen,
the Unit hairdresser, has been kept busy ever since! RSM Clarke
also plays rugby and got his first black eye within three days
of taking over his appointment—playing rugby of course!
BFT—these initials conjure up all sorts of ideas, the latest
being Bracht Fitness Tyrant, by which name SI Kenny Finch
APTC, is currently known. Early morning PT sessions are now
in full swing for those few members of the Unit who have not
yet passed their BFT, and there are not many of those! Interest-
ing to note is that several over thirty fives have put up faster
times than anyone in the thirty to thirty five age group. ' Super-
fast* W02 Andy Shearer is the current over thirty five leader
with nine minutes nineteen seconds.
The football season is with us once again and Bracht are
out to win the North Rhine Inter Services League in which they
came a close second last season. This season's team is Corporal
John McGonagle (Captain), Major Roger Attrill, W02 Andy
Shearer, W02 Digger Denholm, Sergeant Kenny Finch (APTC),
Corporals Thomo Thompson and Sammy Sansom, Lance
Corporals Kev Willis, Andy Anderson, Ricky Crombie and
Scouse
Norbury, Privates Ian Crawford, Smudge Smith and
1
Pop* McAleese. The team is under the new management of
Sergeant John Nolan assisted by trainer W02 Jimmy Richard-
son and Corporal Jack (Subs) Ince. After a disasterous start
to the season, losing four to one to 21 Signal Regiment in the
league, the team came back with a four to two win against 23
Regiment RCT. To date our last league match was against
Command Pay Office Moenchengladbach which resulted in a
comfortable four to one win for Bracht. In the Army Challenge
cup we were extremely unlucky to have a last second equalising
goal disallowed and went down two to one to 16 Signal Regi-
ment.
It would appear that the fencing club have been 'foiled'
by NAAFI. A recent order for seven right-handed foil gloves
has been met by a delivery of seven left-handed sabre gloves.
Major Reggie von Zugbach de Sugg is now trying to recruit as
many left-handers into the club as possible!.

The Wulfen air is of course well known to be the purest
in Nord Rhein Westfalen and our morning runs/physical exercises
on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings are always greeted
enthusiastically, so much that by popular request, we may add
an extra session on Sundays and that's got nothing to do with
' Brownie points * which Sergeant Peter Lee keeps talking about
I actually remember Corporal Peter Lynch telling me—before
collapsing—how much he enjoyed this Germanic pastime.
The rugby squad is now under new management of Captain
Paul Henwood, for shape and style, and * Dusty' (Fitness him-
self) Stone. After a shaky start, results are beginning to im-
prove as they work towards the first round of the Army Minor
Units Cup. Unfortunately, the strength of the squad is being
slowly sapped by the disbandment of 7 Guided Missile Com-
pany. We wish them all luck as they leave for new rugby
pastures around the globe.
The Wulfen Gun Club (Skeet and Trap) continues to
thrive. We have just held a very successful Open Competition
Shoot and we are pleased to say that the Wulfen A Team
managed to take second prize in the Team Competition.
The Ladies Hockey Team, the Wulfen Royalls, played a
six-a-side competition against the ladies of Portsmouth Barracks
Munster; they had a splendid day and actually won one of their
five games! They also played against the schoolgirls of Hamm
and lost by twelve to nil. I am told it was a case of age
before beauty!
The men's team played against Ordnance Depot Antwerp
on a fine sunny afternoon and the result was not a reflection
of the elements generosity! Desfontaines forgot the game was a
team effort and Noddy Nagle held the stick firmly by the butt
and requested Ammo! Actually, we tried very hard and must
congratulate Antwerp for a fine performance. Result?—sorry,
classified!
