BRIGADIER A, H. FERNYHOTJGH
CBE, MC
THE DGOS has received the following letter from Brigadier
H. E. Fernyhough CBE DSO>
My Dear General,
I want, on behalf of myself and my sister, to express our
most grateful thanks to you, and through you to the Corps, for
all that was done by many people to make Alan's service such
a truly memorable occasion. The spectacle, as I walked into
the church of the great throng of people, who had come to do
him honour, will be one I shall not ever forget. T am sure Alan.
was well aware of what was going on, and I can imagine his
surprise that so many people wanted to pay tribute to him. On
the other hand, seeing such a gathering of friends there would
have pleased him greatly,
John Stanyer's address was masterly, and I was very pleased
he gave me the script, which we will treasure as a permanent
reminder of what he said.
And thank you so much for agreeing to read the lesson.
Again, our most grateful thanks.

MR W. MANN
MAJOR W. C. ADAMS writes: —
The very sudden and unexpected loss of Mr Bill Mann at
the age of sixty two came as a tremendous shock to all his.
colleagues in ASU Shrewsbury. Bill Mann was the CASO at
Shrewsbury for fourteen years and reverted to ASA Kineton
just over twelve months ago in order to organise his eventual
retirement in the small village of Badsey near Evesham. Bill
was a tower of strength to us all, he was a most warm hearted
person with a dry sense of humour and a passion for gardening
which was evident in the garden of his bungalow at Badsey. It
is extremely sad that he was unable to enjoy the fruits of his
labours when he was due to retire early next year.
To his wife Elsie and family we extend our deepest sympathy
in their most tragic loss.
