Along the * Golden Mile,' Colonel John Brown our Dep
>up (Combat)—not Dep Sup doesn't stand for Depot Superin-
cndenl, it is NATO'ese for Deputy Supply—Major David Wright
jur man in charge of Combat Fuels, and Staff Sergeant Danny
Vfurtell the Chief Clerk Supplies Combat run the BAOR
[jockey among them. As another successful season has now
ground to a halt we can hear a collective sigh from the West End
of the corridor and a passing comment that they could all now
turn to lesser priorities such as estimates, moratoriums, etc!
Major Wright also figures this month in both the congratulations
ii'-id commiserations section. Belated but sincere congratulations
ors gaining an MSc from Manchester University and commisera-
tions on his eight hour delay at Heimstedt caused by a minor
documentation problem. His subsequent arrival in Berlin, with
caravan, at 0300 hours coincided with an Easter blizzard— wel-
come back to sunny Rheindahlen.
Still with Supplies Combat (we do have two other branches
in the Directorate) they tell us that the Directorate .22 shooting
team which is manned by Ammo and Combat Fuel sharp-
shooters has fired its way into the Home Cup (hope they don*t
damage it) and serious training is now the order of the day.
Upstairs with the Gee Bees (G Branches) we hear that Staff
Sergeant Ted Deacon of Gl Personal Services was taken into
Wegberg Hospital just after Easter but that he is now well on the
mend. We wish him a speedy recovery. Our congratulations
go to Staff Sergeant Dave O'Brien of G3 Trg and Staff Sergeant
Paul Moore of G3 AMIS on receiving their Long Service and
Good Conduct Medals.
The photograph shows from left
to right Staff Sergeant Dave O'Brien, daughter Cheryl, Mrs Sue
O'Brien, Colonel D. A. G. Edelsten late 13/18 Hussars who
presented the medals, Mrs Jan Moore and Star! Sergeant Paul
Moore.
In G4 Housing they have said farewell to Sergeant Bill Mc-
Donald who has gone to 6 Field Force (where they also speak
the NATO tongue) and welcomed in his place Sergeant Knight
who has escaped from Northern Ireland, Staff Sergeant Alex
McMonagle of G3 Staff Duties has donned his bush hat in
readiness for his move to Nairobi whilst Sergeant Brian
Stoddart has returned from Zimbabwe and G2 Int are hoping
that he will try and put some time in with them now I Sergeant
Frank Line of Gl Disc has finally been prised loose after nine
years in the Headquarters; it took a resettlement course to
manage it. Corporal Jim Hawkins of G3 Headquarters Coord
•vas finally trapped into attending a RPC Course and has gone
straight into hiding in Paris until his hair grows again! We
hear that Corporal Gerry Adkins of G4 Plans is now thinking
of going into the movie business since he was asked to help make
a film—it must be his moustache!
Congratulations to Sergeant Mick Earthey of Supply (Ammo)
on promotion to that rank and Sergeant John Hurley on G2
Int on substantive promotion.
The Supply Directorate has said farewell to Sergeants Neil
Anderson and Tom Dewhurst and welcomed in their places
Sergeants Graham Seymour and Geordie McShane.
Ordnance Depot Antwerp
IT is always pleasant to give publicity to different clubs. On
this occasion it is the Wives Shooting Club, I think Staff
Sergeant Bob Hood and Sergeant Bill Rice have been keeping
it a secret as little was known of this successful club. Presently
there are twenty members who have enjoyable Thursday evenings
firing on the .22 range. At the end of March, the club held
their regular three monthly presentations for the best shots in
the two divisions. On this occasion Mrs Cath Hughes won and
Mrs Chris Rowe was runner-up in the 1st Division. Mrs Sue
Cook and Mrs Alice Rice were first and second in the 2nd
Division. Sergeant Bill Rice was in eloquent form for his final
evening before posting to Soest He and his wife presented
the club with a trophy to be known as the handicap trophy for
the wife who improves most in a period of time.
The football team's performance has not been written
about this year and as the season has just about finished mention
should be made of its limited success. The team has progressed
from the foot of the league to a respectable middle position
by the end of the season, Corporal Tom Plunkett is trying to
find sympathy for the ankle he hurt (later diagnosed as broken)
at the beginning of the game against 227 Signal Squadron but
he courageously played on and even scored a goal. A Junior
Ranks Team captained by Lance Corporal Flesher won a local
tournament in Broechem. The trophy now sits proudly in the
NAAFI,

The DGOS visited the unit during the month. In the after-
noon, an inter-departmental floor hockey competition was held.
Unfortunately, the DGOS had to leave early and failed to see
the Officers team win with the help of Lance Corporal Dave
Clapton. This was a contentious win, as everybody apart from
the officials thought that the Officers team had lost a particular
game, but the officials ie Sergeant Mick Jory and Lance Corporal
Paul Bickerdyke both thought that it was a draw. The Officers
team won that particular game on penalties.
We welcome the following: WOl John Kearney, W02
Chris Keelor, Corporals Danny Riding and Derek Cowell, Lance
Corporals Nick Lowe and Frank Sambrook (working in Head-
quarters BFA) and Privates Nigel Avery, Bill Bailey and Driver
Graham Bums who has been attached to the ODA prior to re-
badging,
The following have departed, hopefully with fond memories,
Staff Sergeant Davy Hogg, Sergeants Bob Law and Bill Rice,
Corporals Dick Rainey, Charlie Dobson and Chris Colman.
Congratulations to Corporal ' Sammy' Sampson and Diane
on their recent marriage at Emblem Church. Stop press news,
congratulations to Corporal Ken Lomax on his promotion.

WE were delighted to receive another visit from the DGOS and
were particularly pleased that he was accompanied by Mrs
Brown on this occasion.
While General Brown, accompanied by DOS (BAOR),
Brigadier Whalley and the Commandant Colonel Dodworth
toured Wortham Barracks, Mrs Brown was being entertained to
lunch by Mrs Dodworth and the officers wives.
The DGOS took the opportunity of speaking to a large
number of soldiers in the soldiers restaurant and the NAAFI
Club before joining the officers for lunch. After lunch he
visited the Training Wing, where he was given a briefing on the
task of the wing by Lieutenant Martin Carey and Staff Sergeant
Geordie Carrick. Afterwards the DGOS saw students of the
current RPCl upgrading course being put through their paces.
Meanwhile, Mrs Brown was being entertained to afternoon
tea by the wives of our WOs and SNCOs.
The DGOS completed his visit by a tour of the depot being
shown various aspects of depot activity. We hope that General
and Mrs Brown enjoyed their visit to Bracht, it was certainly a
pleasure to see them here.
Although belated, we would like to mention our PGF
contingent who arrived safely from The Maze Prison. We
supplied twenty four soldiers led by Sergeant Trev Long to
help the Royai Artillery guard The Maze. Their tour was
preceded by the usual Northern Ireland training, which en-
abled the RA to come up to our standards! Corporal Dennis
Percy did his bit for the troops entertainment by allowing an
RAF helicopter to land on his foot. Apparently he'd rushed
forward to get the door open, but unfortunately the thing hadn't
quite landed! The ensuing four months at The Maze provided
the lads with a multitude of tasks from attending discos to
patrols, security, guards and taking over border posts. As al-
ready mentioned the party arrived back without mishap, full of
war stories and blackened cap badges. They were all presented
with their GSMs Northern Ireland by the Commandant at a
ceremony in the P and RTG
