Transcription GPO coloured mini estate. A nice smail car, one which can
be carried in ones pocket, or thrown into the sink for a wash,
The latter has been busy replacing engines, gearboxes etc in his
two Jaguars, one of which would only go backwards. * Tyres
must be on back to front * was one comment.
The BFT raised its ugly head for the first time this year
and as many as sixteen men turned out to try their luck. Al-
though it was rather a hot day (to say the least) the large
majority of those who attempted, passed.
Congratulations are in order for the newly promoted AO
Captain Barron (how does he do it?).
Arrivals: Sergeant Hopkins, Corporal Davey, Privates Laws
and Vaughan.
The wives of the Warrant Officers and Sergeants entertain Mrs
Brown to tea.
As promised last month we did have a good run in the
BAOR Minor Units Squash Cup. Unfortunately, we were
defeated in the final by 20 Electronic Workshop three two. It
was a close competition which could have gone either way. The
team of Messrs Bradley, Daniel, Dovelt, Robertson, Scott and
Shaw are to be congratulated on their efforts. All in all it was a
good season for the team and it is hoped that we can have a
better season in 81/82.
The managers of the football, rugby fraternities have taken
up low profiles now that the leagues and cups have ended.
It was hoped that Bracht would retain the DOS (BAOR)
football cup again, but this didn't happen. In a very close semi-
final against Stores Section 7 Field Workshop we lost one nil.
But nevertheless we wish them success in the final.
The rugby team have slipped into obscurity, they are still
training, in preparation for forthcoming seven-a-side com-
petitions. For recuperation purposes most of the first fifteen
went up to Berlin recently to play for the Corps in the Ellis Cup.
By all accounts fortunes against the RCT, REME and
RAMC were varied. For the record the Corps lost two, won
one, drew one. Although the Corps were not at full strength,
(BAOR wise) there seemed to be a lack of cohesion in the side,
The game against the REME proved this, as the Corps gave
away penalty after penalty. Nevertheless, the Bracht contingent
managed to take in the local landmarks and do some shopping
around.
Finally, two departures worthy of a mention are WOl John
Kearney, Staff Sergeant John Smith RAPC. They have recently
left us for new pastures. In their time they have, with their
wives put a great deal of work into the unit. They are thanked
for their efforts and we wish them well in the future.
This month we congratulate Lance Corporal and Mrs
Parsons on the recent birth of their daughter. The promotion
year has commenced with Sergeant Child, Corporals Gardiner,
Forster, Lance Corporals Aaron, Abram, C R. Smith, I. J.
Taylor and S. E. Taylor, congratulations to them all.
Welcome to WOl Whitelegge, W02. Service RAPC, Staff
Sergeant Proctor (Northern Ireland), Sergeants Kelly (Northern
Ireland) and Hawkins, Corporal Bush, Lance Corporals Castle-
house and Shuttle, Privates Allingham, Bain bridge, Cheshire and
Drew.
The DCOS talks to Sergeant Jasper. Looking on are Brigadier
Whalley, Major Chapman, Captain Lloyd and W O l McCabe.
15 Ordnance Croup
HEADQUARTERS
ALL UNITS of the Group were included in the itinerary of
Major General Brown's recent visit to BAOR. After an initial
briefing he toured the Inventory Control Point, Viersen Work-
shop and the Ordnance Depot. He was given the opportunity
to meet junior ranks of both the RAOC and the WRAC in the
Pen and Stacker Club, after which the WOs and SNCOs enter-
tained him with a buffet luncheon in their Mess. Meanwhile,
Mrs Brown had visited the Printing and Stationery Section of
the depot and had then met members of the Viersen Wives
Club for coffee in the Alpine Restaurant. In the evening a
most successful supper party was held in the visitors* honour in
the Windberg Station Officers Mess.
The DGOS continued his tour of the Group by visits to
Forward Vehicle Depot Recklinghausen and Forward Ord-
nance Depot Dulmen.
We extend a hearty welcome to Lieutenant P. M. Ford on
his arrival in the Headquarters to fill the appointment of
Mobilisation Planning Officer. Since this is his first RAOC
posting after successful completion of the OOs Course and
transfer from REME we couple this greeting with one to joining
the Corps,
ORDNANCE DEPOT VIERSEN
THE last month has seen a continuous stream of visitors to the
Depot starting with the Chief of Staff BAOR. The lunch was
hurried down with the Commander, Colonel Carruthers, perform-
ing diplomatic miracles to be able to say farewell to the COS,
leaping into his car in Brands Hatch style, and returning in
time to join the welcoming committee for the afternoon visit of
the Civic Dignitaries of Viersen. (See page 2.) The after-
noon will long be remembered for the way the ' escape com-
mittee * cunnmgly converted a staff car into an ambulance and
bribed the guards at RAF Wegberg hospital to release one of
their violent inmates, Lieutenant Colonel Rees, for three hours
remission to be present for the Stadt visit which he had prepared.
On the sporting scene the hockey team are through to the
first round of the DOS BAOR cup winning three nil against FAD
Recklinghausen. The football team is improving, winning their
latest league game seven one, and the rugby team have gone
from strength to strength and finished the season with a lively
session at the annual buffet.
4 Petroleum Depot
THE DGOS accompanied by DOS BAOR, Brigadier Whalley,
visited the depot recently and with them came some superb
weather.
At midnight on the same day, an aircraft refueller on
exercise, tried to emulate its customers (ie the aircraft) by taking
a short cut, but unfortunately only got as far as the ditch,
Whereupon we were requested by the RMP to empty the con-
tents of the bowser before recovery could be made, Staff Sergeant
Biondic and his merry men were roused at approximately
0100 hours and informed of the task. With smiling faces! they
dressed and headed for the stricken tanker. 0400 hours job com-
pleted they winded their weary way home and hit the pit
until lunchtrme. What a gallant band of men.
Our two Warrant Officers (WOsl Chatfield and McCabe)
have been delving into the car scene, one buying, one repairing,
The former has decided to replace his DBP coloured VW for a
