Transcription This was quite routine, but upon being asked " where he'd
like to go?" the reply of " round through the tyre bay and down
to shed one " was, we were all sure, not really where he wanted
to go for the next two years—or was it?
The DGOS was introduced to Sergeant Legg who was in-
structing on the first of eight SSD MHE courses designed to
train every soldier, and a selected number of civilians on six
different types of operational storehouse equipment. In build-
ing two, the graphs on display analysing pre-packing checks
caused our C6 some embarrassment, for when asked whether
the military or the civilians were best at selections, his allegiance
to his twelve years in the service weighed heavily against his
twenty five years as a civilian, the outcome of which resulted in,
more Irish jargon.
Several days before this visit came the annual unit cross
country race (The Dulmen Dash). This proved to be so popular,
especially to Major Cantor the winner, that quarterly races will
now be held, and * B ' Company will attempt to regain their
lost trophies.
We welcome to the SSD Staff Sergeant Ledmgham who takes
charge of the high activity functions in building two, and to
Corporal Hoi 1 ins. Staffs arrival in Dulmen will never be for-
gotten; not only was his MFO long overdue, but one night his
bed actually collapsed and he had to reposition it with a car
jack. Would one expect otherwise from a good RAOC tradesman?
The DCOS meets the Junior Ranks in the Pen and Stacker.
In the Corps shooting championships the unit entered the
major units to enable them to submit two teams, and finished up
in fourth place.
Individually, W02 Nesbit and Sergeant
Straughier came third in the LMG Pairs, Major Coleman finished
eleventh overall in the Champion Shot listings and b Guest Shot/
Colonel Carruthers, came sixth in the Pistol Match.
We welcome in Corporals George Tomkinson and Jim Mc-
Niven and Private L Jock * McCaig and the two corporals wives
Barbara and Hazel respectively, and hope they enjoy their tour
with the unit.
INVENTORY CONTROL POINT
THE ICP recently held their staff dance. In all some two
hundred attended, civilians, military and all their guests. ^ A
cabaret and disco was supported by a demonstration of jiving.
Captain Don Longmoor seemed to out-shine all the jivers with
his own style on the floor,
Captain Don Longmoor said his farewells to ICP and Captain
Hugh M inch in ton has taken over the post of Supervising Officer.
Captain Minchinton vacated the post of OIC Cat 2/3 within ICP
and this vacancy has now been taken by Captain Stephen John.
Captain John is a newcomer to the RAOC having spent four
years with the Royal Artillery. Captain Doug Guest has also
left to try his hand with the Commandos. ICP has seen very
little of him over the last four months as he spent some twelve
weeks in Bavaria as Admin Officer, Snow Queen; then, on his
return, he moved to disposals as the ICP representative.
Staff Sergeant Joe Hogg arrived to take over a post in
Tertiary Depot Control but is now undergoing intensive training
under Mr David Dudfield in the Local Procurement Section.
Staff Sergeant Pete Marsh has been out again (where does
he get the energy from?). In the JHQ twenty five killometre race
he came fourth individually, finishing in one hour twenty one
minutes. His team (15 Ord Group) were the 2nd Military
team to finish (fourth overall). Out of over three hundred com-
petitors including National, Civilians and Military teams this
was no easy race.
FORWARD ORDNANCE DEPOT DOLMEN
THE unit Full Bore Shooting Team departed for the RAOC
(BAOR) Skill-at-Arms Meeting and returned loaded with silver.
WOl Steve Myers and his merry men won the Major Units
Challenge Cup, the Rifle Team Cup and the Pistol Team Cup.
To add icing to the cake, our eagle eyed CQMS, Staff Sergeant
Dave Crabbe won the individual pistol. Talk of roupells,
stoppages and ripples (whatever they are) fill the air. The team
was WO I Myers, W 2 Baxter, Staff Sergeants Crabbe and Ward,
Sergeants Sebbum (runner-up champion shot) and Davies,
Corporal Parsons and Private Maxwell.
STORES SUB-DEPOT.
The gathering of the Irish Clans recently
proved to be another milestone in the history of Dulmen. The
DGOS was greeted warmly at the SSD by the 2IC and our C6
Paddy Ravenscroft, and in the mystics of the Irish accent, the
2IC was asked about his future plans once commissioned later
this year.
MOBILISATION STORES SUB-DEPOT. The new men at the
top of the shed are * Q ' Craddock who has made his presence
felt and is always 'buzzing* around ably assisted by Staff
Sergeant Dave Thomas. They have both been transferred from
SSD. We also welcome Second Lieutenant Lancaster, who is
being guided in the ways of Mob by Captain Sustins. Also
arrived are Sergeant McGaghey and Corporal McKiernon. We
congratulate Lance Corporal Howes on his marriage and look
forward to him coming back to work for a rest, and Lance
Corporal Coulter who has now moved on to better things after
his marriage, to work in the SSO's Department.
Congratulations are also due to Corporal Jeanne on coming
second in the unit cross country. Ps ' 'A' Company wiped the ^
board.' Congratulations also to Corporal Hughes on his pro-
motion to Sergeant.
We say farewell this month to Corporal Tony Pedley on
promotion and Lance Corporal Dave Duxbury.
PS. The C and A Office is now erected in shed twelve. The
BFBS Tower is now erected outside the old C and A Office.
Neither of them are working at the moment!

THIS month's notes come from GU G4 and G5
Coord or, for those not yet accustomed to the inter-
national brand of gobbledegook, AQ Coord* This
is a small but extremely busy branch in what many
regard as the back end of the Headquarters. As
well as the normal range of AQ subjects we deal
with such extra mural activities as Exercise Snow
Queen the annual BAOR ski-ing exercise in Bavaria
which we run with G3 (Trg) and the Bielefeld
Massed Bands Display which ranks with Halle
Munsterland and the Berlin Tattoo as one of the biggest military
music shows staged in Germany.
We have in fact only three RAOC personnel in the branch.
Our Chief Clerk /Superintending Clerk/Staff Assistant-to-be
WOl Tony Robinson is a very fit single man who is busily polish-
ing up his German again with a view to taking the Civil Service
Commission Interpreter exam later in his tour. On the Gl or
'A' side is W02 John Thomson. He joined us from Rhein-
dahlen in December and was promoted shortly afterwards.
Sergeant John Foey runs the ' Q ' or G4 side and completes the
RAOC team. We are very capably assisted by five ladies (two
in uniform, and three civilians)* and the odd staff officer or two!
We are about to move into new offices along with half of
the Headquarters. Lance Corporal Karen Quigley who has
been here for eighteen months and seen eleven changes of
clerical staff, has asked that the new accommodation be fitted
with revolving doors to allow for the rapid entry and egress!
We welcome Private Kevin Haywood who has joined G3
(Trg) from the Depot.
HEADQUARTERS
RAOC
FAITHFUL readers of our newsletters will have formed two
impressions: we exercise a lot and are always having farewell
parties. The first is perhaps to be expected. The second—well,
we had a pretty big efflux (lovely word) not only here, but
