Transcription he was not placed. Private Mick Morris is to be congratulated
on achieving first place on a crane operators course at Bicester,
he surprised quite a few people. Being a good soldier he also
volunteered to be attached to the AGIO Tunbridge Wells and
took part in the Satisfied Soldiers Scheme.
We say farewell to Lance Corporal Ian Sharpe (now
Corporal) who is off to Northern Ireland and Private Geordie
Strong to Kineton. Welcome to Sergeant Bob Boneham, Privates

BFT can be a very dirty word and poor
Sergeant Mac Lindley wasn't amused
when fate dealt him a cruel blow—BFTs
on consecutive days. He had gamely
passed his annual test on Tuesday morning
but his euphoria was shattered when he
heard that he had been selected to repeat
the performance on Wednesday as one of
the twenty per cent of the unit who were to be tested as part of
the ARU. However, to his credit he managed to struggle to an-
other pass hopeful of a four month rest to follow—Mac did you
realise there is a one hundred per cent test planned for next
month?
The girls who play such an important role of supporting us
all during our daily lives organised a social evening this month.
The event took place at a local chicken farm and everyone
donned fancy* dress. An excellent night was enjoyed by all
and we thank the ladies far all their efforts.
The next few weeks will be very hectic packed with exercise
commitments, a change over of CRAOC and many other staff,
sporting events which include hockey, sailing and athletics and
that one hundred per cent Basic Fitness Test. Our latest successes
on the sporting scene were Lance Corporal Terry Shephard who
competed for the Signal Regiment fencing team who finished
third in the BAOR Championships and won the 3 Division
Championships and Staff Sergeant Art Matthews who has been
selected to represent the Signal Regiment in the Division orien-
teering championships—results next month.

it turned out, a washing. Our first exercise of the new season
was successful in that it tested the clerks ability to work in swamp
conditions with the rain quickly turning each new location into
a quagmire; however, had they been civilian they would have
paid a fortune for a similar mud bath. The main achievement
being that everybody kept smiling irrespective of the weather
conditions.
On the sporting scene, Corporal Bob Mays reached the
semi-finals of our Signal Regiments Novice Boxing competition.
Also we challenged Headquarters 3rd Armoured Division Select
to a game of football in which we emerged the victors with a
convincing four two win thanks to joint top scorers Corporal
Bob Mays and Lance Corporal Mac McCarthy with a goal a
piece. Our current scoring tally to date stands fourteen for,
forty three against after five games.
We welcome Private Taff Gabriel joining us from Apprentice
College.
A happy Corporal Mays has received his posting order to
1st Armoured Division in Verden and our congratulations go
with him on his promotion to Sergeant on arrival.

HEADQUARTERS RAOC
THIS month saw all the branch officers
sweating away in the gymnasium, but not
doing PT! With maps all around and every-
where the sound of telephones ringing
Messrs Pike, Lamb and Jarman were
grappling with the demands of Exercise
Wintex in the Regimental Gymnasium just
beneath the basketball goalmouth! Else-
where BFTs have been completed and the
last of the Ordnance Ancillary Inspections carried out.
Sadly our Chief Clerk, Corporal Luke O'Neill has drunk
his last Herforder, packed his carrier bag and moved to an ap-
pointment in far away lands; but not before being * dined out'
at a local restaurant and the traditional office drinks, with
tearful typists Norma and Lesley waving their handkerchiefs
as the intrepid Corporal made his way over the Herford horizon
to the unknown in Belize.
The good weather arrived just in time for the Regimental
Athletics in which Major Peter Lamb and Captain David Kerr t
from AQ Ops, distinguished themselves in the eight hundred
metres, hurdles and sprints.
Exercise Mainbrace now looms large and the headquarters
is preparing to practise its role on mobilization once again.
Lastly congratulations to 4th Armoured Division Ordnance
Company and especially Lance Corporal Arrowsmith, for their
successes at the RAOC BAOR Full-Bore Skill-at-Arms Meeting.
Wulfen
WITH the onset of spring here in Wulfen,
all and sundry are dusting the cobwebs
from forgotten bicycles, mopeds and stout
walking shoes. The aim being to see
Wulfen whilst the sun shines and before
PSA can get to work with their grass-
cutters, powersaws and demolishing equip-
ment.
The Admin Officer contrived to be on
leave in Sarawak of all places, when the
DGOS and DOS BAOR visited us early
in the month. No leave for twenty members of the unit who
had to forego the Easter Grant due to a threatened ' rising *
by demonstrators against war in general and NATO in particular.
Thankfully no demonstration materialised in our area but this
may well be due to the fact that we were seen to be prepared
and ready to respond.
During his visit the DGOS presented Corporal Geoff
Beech (ACQ with his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.
Congratulations Geoff.
On the sports scene this period we must report that the
Station Soccer Team have triumphed by winning the North
Division of: the North Rhine Inter Services Football League.
Actively involved with this success have been Captain Alan
Singer, a recent capture from 3 BAD, Corporals Ginge Dickin-
son and Dave Tressler, Privates Flash Bennett and Bob Print
The marching team have been training very hard under the
guidance of WOl ' J . C . ' Crawford and have high hopes for a
good performance in the Nijmegen marches this year. Un-
fortunately the hockey squad have fallen on sad times having
recorded only three victories this season. It must be said that
this minor setback has not dampened any of the enthusiasm
which is apparent amongst team members.
We welcome to the unit W02 Lloyd-West, Staff Sergeant
Kirtley, Sergeant Parker, Privates McChesney and Metcalfe and
say farewell to W02 Greathead, Staff Sergeant Nagle, Corporal
Briggs and Private Wood.
Headquarters 6th Armoured Brigade
RETURN to Go! Task Force Foxtrot has been redesignated
6th Armoured Brigade and the famous Rhino is much in
evidence.
The attached photograph was taken of the Military and
Civilian Staff of the Headquarters as the Handover/Takeover
of Brigade Commanders.
Since our last notes, lots has happened, we have dusted
out the exercise equipment and taken it for an * airing * and, as
