43 /?/> COMPANY. Congratulations
go to Sergeant Dan Blaza, or REME
erk
- o n achieving a ninety nine per
cent pass mark on a Service Funds
Accounts Course, at last we have
someone to run the coffee swindle.
The Company did remarkably

administered by Captain Tony Ward,

winning the Battalion Rifle Team
Championship Cup, the Young Soldiers Cup in the shape of
Private Ian Reid, and the Battalion SMG Winners Champions
.up.
On the rugby front the Company Rugby Team surprised
;veryone, but themselves, by reaching the final of the CCRAOC
Snp, Our opponents on this occasion were 44 RP Company.
Unfortunately, after a hard fought game, 44 RP Company were
eventual winners.
Staff Sergeant Mick Farebrother, our Angling Rep, informs
me of the following successes for the CSAC: in the Divisional
Qualifier fished on the Lippe at Hamm, Sergeant Bill Richards
finished first, Staff Sergeant Mick Farebrother fifth and Captain
Tony Ward fifteenth, (best and only positions so far!). Sergeant
Hill Richards has also been selected to represent BAOR against
RAFG.
Finally, we welcome to the Hill, Captain Nick Bell, Lieu-
tenant Michael Lacis (at last), our new CSM, W 2 Alan Fee,
Sergeant John Beattie (ACQ, Corporals Gary Craggs, Bill Perry,
Richard Winchester and Private Ray Cooksley.
We say farewell to CSM, W02 Dave Avery, (Champion
Domino player), now on retirement at 49 RP Company, Corporal
Jon Lee to Hereford (keep your head down) and Private Savage
Maciver to Donnington.
Congratulations to Private Claude Preira for winning the
Young Soldiers Cup at the RAOC BAOR shoot. However, as
pleased as the OC is with this achievement, he feels it does not
compensate for the loss of the Eager Beaver written off by the
same young man.
44 RP COMPANY.
The most noteworthy achievement this
month was the Company winning the CCRAOC Rugby Cup
Final. After eliminating 1 Armoured Division Ordnance Com-
pany (the holders) in the semi-final twenty six nil, the Company
went on to meet * the lads from Pombsen ' in the final. It was a
strongly contested final, the result however was never in doubt
ind the Company cruised to a twenty two points to nil win.
The most noteworthy achievement of the Cup the team scored
one hundred and eighty three points over four games. And no
points scored against. However, it has been proved that foot-
ball is not the Companys best sport with 49 completing the
* double * in the football cup.
We have said some sad farewells this month. RSM John
Foster, who leaves us on commission to Captain, and to May
Foster who will be sadly missed within the wives club. WO I
Tom Galloway who will be sadly missed throughout the
Battalion by all ranks. W 2 Mick Shepherd RAPC who was
one of the main people responsible for the tremendous success
the rugby team is at present enjoying, and also to Lynn Shepherd
who will not only be missed on the netball court, but also the
support and understanding she has given Mick during the
season. We also say farewell to Lance Corporal Squatter
Stevens, he too will be missed from the rugby squad, to Lance
Corporal Les Flood who leaves after five years in the Company,
we wish them all the best in civilian life. And finally we say
farewell to Sergeant Eddie Polland who leaves us for Bicester
prior to his departure from the Army. To all six of you we
wish you the very best for the future and will remember you
not only for your sterling service within the Company but also
your service to the Battalion.
We welcome RSM Alan Dunn and his wife Dorothy,
WOl Geordie Greathead and his wife Maureen and Staff
Sergeant Terry Jefferson-Brown and wish them a long and
enjoyable stay.
49 RP COMPANY.
The unit, at present, is preparing for the
Annual Training Camp and the Divisional Combat Supplies
Company exercises; Staff Sergeant Nolan is battling with the
* who wants what' syndrome, while the Training Officer Cap-
tain Osborne is using that well known word, " flexibility," in
every sentence. One of the highlights of the month was the
unif s Football Club Annual Dinner, * Pots' were much in
evidence, as the team has now won the Battalion football
cup
1
for five consecutive seasons and the * George Patterson football
shield, each year since it was presented in 1977! Well done to
Secretary of the RAOC BAOR Ski-ing, Major C. S. At her ton enjoy-
ing the delights of Exercise Snow Queen with some instructors,
including Sergeant Dymond, Corporal Markwick and Lance
Corporal Bird from Combat Supplies Battalion,
Privates Milicevic, Keele, Holmes and Rankin of the unit's
* Happy Wanderers ' Orienteering team, for being placed fourth
in the Minor Units section of the 2nd Armoured Division Orien-
teering competition. Congratulations also to Private Broom-
field who achieved 'Master M i n d ' fame on obtaining a ' B 1
grading on the MT Accounts Course, Corporal Begg an
* M D ' (Master of Documentation) attaining a b B ' grading
on a unit Documentation Course and Private (Ah So) Bartlett
who is now a seventh KYU in Judo.
The Chief Clerk, Sergeant Roe, interrupts your scribe, with
the cheery note that the unit is now in its eighty first year,
having been formed in Dublin in 1900! Corporal Ridley, as
quick as ever, adds " that's a coincidence we just happen to have
eighty one ( livers in * " ! With that stupendous piece of history*
those earth shattering statistics and a cup of Corporal Begg's
awful coffee our notes draw to a close.
Stop Press: Recently Staff Sergeant Neary aided and
abetted by Sergeant Hetherington, temporarily held and
questioned two German civilians seen lingering in a wood near
the camp. It was later confirmed, both were wanted by the
police for armed robbery! The local civilian police were
delighted, well done.
Arrivals: W02 Avery,
Management Services Unit BAOR
THERE seems to have been a never-ending stream of visitors
ploughing through our portals this month. The DGOS popped
in to say hello accompanied by the Deputy Supply (Org and
Plans) Colonel Jackson.
The DGOS took the opportunity to present SQMS Julian
Thompson with the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.
SSMs Dave Haugh and Pete Bath have begun the pleasant/
unpleasant task of packing prior to postings to Donnington
and Bicester respectively; the remainder of the unit appears to
be collecting suitcases and heading for studies in Berlin.
Our l never say die * runner, SQMS John Last took part in
the recent Rheindahlen International twenty five killometres
road race and we are pleased to announce that he finished in
the early third of the field, ie eightieth out of two hundred and
forty starters; he was also welt placed in his age group (coyly
put at over thirty). That intrepid virtuoso of the camera,
Sergeant Frank Voice has been helping (but not with the camera)
the RAOC Viersen Smallbore team to victory in the Rhine
Area Division Two league.
Heard about a certain Major, who was talked into buying
a caravan, did so, and then found his family preferred to stay
at home during the Easter holiday? Sorry Sir, 1 promise to do
better next month whilst in exile in Berlin!
Force Ordnance Company Belize
UNLIKE last month, it has all been happening here in Belize.
As you are all probably aware a state of emergency was declared
by the Governor on 2nd April following several days of strikes,
minor riots and political rallies. Although the situation has
