Transcription Sadly we must now record that Mr Kirby died in Southport
on the 5th of May-
He had long connections with our depot at Burscough where
he was Chief Clerk for many years after his retirement from
military service with the Corps. Early in December last he fell
and broke a leg and although he made a good recovery, it was
sadly not to last.

C O M R A D E S
MAJOR JOHN ROSE hosted a very special visit to Vehicle
Depot Ludgershall recently. Five previous Commanding Officers
attended a reunion which brought Lieutenant Colonel Allan
Kennedy and Major Mike Rose out of very busy civilian jobs
with BNOC and Martin Thomas Ltd respectively. It brought
Lieutenant Colonel Tony Underhill from a computer apprecia-
tion course and Lieutenant Colonel Bill Ford from his ROF
appointment in London. Lieutenant Colonel David Humphrey
was also able to attend having just returned from Hong Kong.
After a snack at the famous Shears public house the party
toured the Depot and were greeted by a great many familiar
faces of our long serving civilian staff.
WORTHY
WINNERS
CAD LONGTOWN discovered that the students of Carlisle
Technical College were planning their fourth raft race for
charity. With only two days warning the entry fee was sub-
mitted and the team assembled and practised sufficiently to en-
able the Sergeants Mess to win the event for the fourth time
running.
The team members, Sergeant Nigel Hedley, Corporal Kevin
Cronin (Captain), Corporal Pete Sterland and Sergeant Dave
Whitehouse (AGIO) were being interviewed at what was thought

WE hear that W02 Bob McNaught has become a Fellow of
the Institute of Petroleum. We think he is probably the first
Warrant Otficer to gain this distinction from the Institute.
Well done!

to be the finishing point by local press, when a shout to the
effect that the finish was half mile further on was heard. The
lead they had established was such that, having been interviewed,
they were able to re-enter the water and paddle to a significant
win. The photograph shows the intrepid four waterborne.
It's not certain whether they were camera shy, or that the photo-
grapher drew the line at standing in six feet of water (he is only
five and a quarter feet tall) to take the picture.
