,i!LL CUP FINAL.
The Hill Cup Final 1981 was played at
Blackdown between Training Centre and Bicester. The match
took place on the * old Corps pitch/ on the Apprentice College
playing fields, which was beautifully prepared for the game,
a crediL to all those concerned. The day, too, was excellent for
playing being overcast and cool with a very light breeze.
The game started with both sides making some basic errors
through over-eagerness and resulted in early penalty attempts by
both sides from difficult positions. The Training Centre exerted
;nost of the early pressure with their forwards providing some
Mood ball although neither side was able at this stage to
capitalise on second phase play, A penalty converted by Sapher-
^on after eleven minutes was just reward for this pressure by
the Blackdown side. A second penalty by Sapherson some eight
minutes later gave Training Centre a six nil advantage and the
added confidence of this lead produced some more adventurous
play. Bicester however, playing very aggressively, continued try-
ing to get their backs moving and only some very fine tackling,
particularly by Claughton, prevented a breakthrough. The game
continued in a to and fro fashion unliJ a good threequarters
move started by Bicester Captain Denholm ended with wing
Mansfield scoring a fine try in the corner. The first half ended
with Training Centre leading six four.
The second half continued in much the same vein as the
first with play going from end to end. The robust forward
play in the set pieces continued to be dominated by Training
Centre but the Bicester threequarters maintained their ad-
venturous moves when they were able to get possession. How-
ever the good ball being fed to Training Centre enabled
Watton, out of position at outside half, to produce some probing
runs one of which ended up, after involving several forwards,
with a good try by Catterall. Training Centre now had their
tails up and went all out for victory with some exciting, if not
always skilful, attacks towards the Bicester line. The final score
of the match however was the result of some very fine play by
Training Centre with hooker McNaught opening a gap through
the centre and Watton finishing well with a try under the posts
which Sapherson converted. The final result: RAOC Training
Centre sixteen, COD Bicester four, was a fair reflection of the
game but both sides contributed to a good, clean and well
fought match,

tain Claughton (Captain), Captain Kerr, Corporal Gray, Sergeant
Watton, Captain Carman, Sergeant Tarr, W 2 McNaught,

BRUCE SEVEN'S.
The Inter-Unit seven-a-side competition, the
Bruce sevens, took place on the Apprentice College playing fields
at Blackdown.
The twelve teams entered were organised on a basis of four
leagues of three teams with each team to play the other two*
The winner of the league would then progress into the knockout
section for the cup and the runner-up into the plate.
The day was ideal for sevens and all the teams entered into
the spirit of the day and some highly entertaining rugby was
played. The efforts of WOl Kermode ACC and his fellow
referees did much to ensure that a good day was had by all.
The final for the plate was between the Apprentices College
and the defending cup winners 1 Ammo IDU. This was a very
IN GENERAL.
The Corps has had a good season, not least
due to the support from units in making players available which
has been superb, and this has been reflected in our retaining
both the Lilhco and Palestine Cups.
On an individual note both Captain David Kerr and
Corporal Chris Christopher played for Combined Services and
Corporal Christopher also represented Hampshire. The follow-
ing played for the Army: Sergeants R. P, Tarr, R. Travers and
G. Zycinski and Corporal C. Christopher.

THIS last month saw the end of a very successful season for
the Hong Kong, British Forces and Tigers RFC Teams, Ron
Audrain of the Composite Ordnance Depot being the tight-
head prop for all three.
The 1980/81 season started early for Ron with training
for the Hong Kong squad in July '80 and their first match in
September against Wasps from England.
In November Ron was selected for the Hong Kong squad
which competed in the seventh Asian Games held in Taiwan.
Hong Kong played Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Japan in their
group and were defeated only by the latter team. They then
played Taiwan for third place in the Games, whom they defeated
twenty six to nih and Hong Kong returned with well-earned
Bronze Medals.
The Commander British Forces, Major General Chappie, being
introduced to players from the Combined British Forces Team.
Corporal Ron Audrain, RAOC, is in the centre of the photograph.
With British Forces Ron has enjoyed a great season
against such opposition as Nagoya and Dankatu, (teams from
Japan), whom they defeated. He was also selected as one of
four British Forces players to combine with members of the
Royal Regiment of Wales in their tie against Invercargill from.
New Zealand.
In March this year Ron played in l a * Commander British
Forces " select side when they played the Taipans X V ; a match
which CBF won.
March also saw the annual * Cathay Pacific * International
seven-a-side tournament held here in Hong Kong with teams
from all around the world competing. After the tournament
Ron played in the Hong Kong squad against a. * Rest of Asia *
side, which was televised. Hong Kong were the victors twenty
four to fourteen.
Finally, at the very end of this season Ron captained a
Hong Kong English side in their tie against a Hong Kong
Welsh side. He also toured Korea with his club, the Tigers.
