Transcription Also congratulations to WOl Frank Lawrence on being
awarded his British Forces Hong Kong Colours for rugby and
also on arriving back from the tour of Korea with no injuries.
In Korea he visited the DMZ between North and South
Korea at Pan Mun Jom and also visited one of the three secret
tunnels which have been discovered in the South, where the
Communist North have tunnelled under the DMZ at a depth
of some seventy metres. Another visit was to Gloster Valley
where the 1st Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment and C Troop
170 Light (Mortar) Battery RA made their heroic stand between
22nd/2Sth April 1951 at the Battle of Solma-RL
Some very good rugby was played as well.
TRAINING
CENTRE
SOCCER
SKI-MOUNTAINEERING
IT is intended to run a ski-mountaineering course for RAOC
personnel in the Swiss Alps for two weeks in Spring 1982. The
aim of the course will be to train competent piste skiers in the
techniques of ski-mountaineering including ascent and descent off
piste and on glaciers carrying mountaineering equipment A
secondary aim will be to select personnel from the Corps who
could attempt the traverse of the Haute Route from Saas Fee to
Chamonix during the Spring of 1983.
This is adventure training at its best and any interested
personnel should write immediately to: Major M, A. Gilbertson,
Officer Commanding. 1 Armoured Division Ordnance Company,
British Forces Post Office 37, giving the following details: Rank
and name, Unit address, ski-ing experience (essential), moun-
taineering experience (if any).
THE soccer team's season was a successful one in comparison
with the previous two seasons, but it did not finish as the team.
had hoped it would, by them becoming the Division 3 Cham-
pions—Runners-up (never remembered) was to be their spot.
Played sixteen, won eleven, drawn three and lost two with seventy
seven goals for and forty two goals against was the final tally.
The RAOC six-a-side championship was a different story
however. Despite losing three of the original squad through in-
jury, the Training Centre team won the competition defeating
10 Ordnance Support Battalion in the final by three goals to
two in extra time. The squad, ably organised by Sergeant Kev
Keogh, consisted of Lance Corporals Roger Payne, Andy Picker-
ing RAPC, TafT John, Gary Hawker, Kenny Hamilton and Private
Taff Goodwin.
Looking to the future however, plans are already formulated
for next season with all of the present squad still scheduled to be
serving here until mid 1982. Scouts are also out!
Stalwarts such as Sergeants Kev Keogh, Jimmy James and
Alan Mayoh, Corporals Gary Hawker, TarT John, Paul Tynan
and Roger Payne, Privates Taff Goodwin, Jack Jackson and
non RAOC members Staff Sergeant Dave Welham RAC and
Lance Corporal Andy Pickering RAPC have all played their
parts, although I must add that the only ever present through-
out the season was Captain Wally Auton—our selector!—say no
more.

REGATTA
RESULTS
A GOOD turnout for the Offshore Regatta this year provided the
crews of ten boats with some keenly contested racing around the
Solent. Racing was started from the Royal Corinthian Yacht
Club at Cowes and the boats, after a slow start raced in a brisk
easterly breeze. Gradually the yachts spread out as the * grey-
hounds ' left the slower boats behind. The wind died in the
later stages of the race providing the slow boats with an addi-
tional handicap as they struggled to get home within the handi-
cap allowance. Min-O-Din won the race for the third year in
succession but not without being given a fright by Skirmisher,
one of the JSSC Haleyons. The trophies were presented in the
Royal Corinthian YC in the evening by Mrs Speller, who had
watched the racing with her husband, Major General Norman
Speller, Colonel Commandant RAOC from their yacht Tonans.
The Regatta was completed by a passage race back to
Southsea. This was again marred by failing winds in the latter
stages but produced a close finish as the results show.
