MILITARY
OPERATIONS.
A month
when many of our clerics have been
waiting with bated breath to see the
Corps Promotion Order, and 1 am
delighted to report that two of our
Sergeants have struck gold. We offer
our sincere congratulations to Sergeant
Barry Humphrey and Sergeant Harry
Hhy on their selection for promotion to Staff Sergeant—well
i< erved.
Sergeant Pam Dibben from MO Sec has been on a
slimming campaign in aid of charity, I am sure that the
thought of sunnier climes has had a little to do with her en-
thusiasm. She leaves us soon for Cyprus and we wish her a
happy tour. Her replacement is Sergeant Polly Policy who
joins us from Rhemdahlen. We hope she settles into her new
job quickly,
Corporal Helen Young who recently got married has just
gone to Deepcut on her B2/B1 Upgrading Course, her husband
" is not thrilled at her bad timing but no doubt the extra trade
!\*y, together with her pay award will help to cushion the

ment. Stan who was in service both military and civil for
forty three years, worked for the last few years as a clerical
officer in the Officers Mess. After being lunched out of the
Mess he was presented with a number of electric garden im-
plements. In his speech of thanks he immediately offered to
hire the garden equipment out at competitive rates to MODARM
club members.

AMONGST those selected for promotion on the current list
are WOs2 Guy Adams and Geoff Malthouse. Guy is already
languishing in Brunei and Geoff will soon be on his way to an
establishment in the West Country, Sergeant Dave Gartside,
just back from his Pennine Way walk with Captain Mike
Murphy, is also on the promotion list The two walkers covered
the distance from South to North and raised several hundred
pounds for charity. On their return they made a brief appear-
ance in the unit before taking leave to go on Exercise Cuckoo's
Nest Summer Camp with the senior children of the local school
for the mentally handicapped,
Other members from the Division have also been active
recently. A team which included W 2 Peter Beattie, Sergeants
Brian Wilkes and Colin Guilfoyle and Lance Corporal Colin
Skinner pulled their way into the final of the Inter-Company
Tug-of-War, Corporal Des Hard on recently passed his ' Days
Skipper's Course' and is now swanning around the Channel
Isles putting it all into practice. Also, he gained second place
in the Corps off-shore regatta. Lieutenant Colonel Brian Lick-
man wished he had borrowed some of his Warrant Officer's
skuba diving gear to help him get round a rather wet course
when he participated in the Basic Org Cup Inter Officers Mess
Golf Meeting.
Just posted in from Chilwell is W 2 Dave Francis, Staff
Sergeant Taff Stallard, Sergeant Brian Wilkes. Corporal Colin
Paton and Lance Corporal Andy Hull have lately passed their
respective Education Promotion Certificates. We look forward
to the marriage of Sergeant Colin Guilfoyle in September.
The Quarter-Master General Sir Richard Worsley presents the
British Empire Medal to Staff Sergeant Howard Cutler of Head-
quarters DCOS (Ord 3) at Andover.

FOLLOWING our dramatic success at hockey, Lieutenant
Colonel B. E. Lane is to achieve the same for cricket. Nets
have been erected over the EWS tank in the Barracks and under-
neath the windows of all three blocks, Lieutenant Colonel
Lane, Captain Ted HinchJiff and associates have been practicing
their drives to cover. While this goes on, the thud of boots
DMS can be heard while keen aspirants to BFT passes run
around the Barracks. DLSA is a very athletic place to be on
occasions-
Welcome visitors to DLSA have been Brigadier Alway and
:rom the Australian Army, Colonel Mackenzie-Orr. The Staff
Sand is to visit shortly to play at the official opening of the new
Didcot Civic Centre which formally opens on 15th July. The
Corps Band will also be playing at the Summer Fete.

ONE of numerous surprising features for newcomers here, is
the length of service of many of the civilian staff. For example,
this month we bade farewell to three ladies and one gentleman
