Transcription . put in some order. The story begins just before exercise
t pjsader and Square Leg which found the military element
'irking not a few hours into the night.
Along came 'Crusader' and away went Sergeant Tom
S^venson, Corporals Tony Campbell and Alfic Bickle to
BAOR
Rumour has it that Sergeant Stevenson was heard
singing " F m nobody's child" until at last a volunteer father
came along.
Next came * Square Leg and away went the OC, Start
Sergeant Joe Steen and Lance Corporal Pete Barraclough with
our TA element. If ever a tour company had competition this
was it. ' See UK by night; From Tidworth to Otterburn via
Salisbury Plain and Otterburn to Tetford. Then from Tetford
i.i Shepton Mallet and later back to Tidworth.
At Tetford one could feel a spirit of unease among the men.
They became strangely quiet and difficult to find. Perhaps the
fact that we were camped outside one of HM Prisons had some-
thing to do with it. The dark past catching up perhaps?
Along came the much forecasted I of E which saw the OC
in. locked combat in his office for a week. Here's hoping!
Our sporting scene has been quite active with Captain
Hendy becoming qualified as a rugby coach and referee to
boot He is seen chasing the Tidworth Druids around most
Tuesday and Thursday mornings and also coaches the Salis-
bury RFC under nineteen Colts.
Captain Hendy and Staff Sergeant Steen represent the unit
dL squash. Staff even tries to beat the OC—Not a good move.
Lance Corporal Horn performs with great skill in goal for
the Unit football team and Private Tiemey as a forward/back.
Our congratulations to Lieutenant Fagg on his commission
and our best wishes go with him.
Our congratulations to the following on the birth of their
newborn—Corporal Campbell, Lance Corporal Horn, Mr New-
bery and Mr Mills. Bicester! what are you putting in those
plastic bags with the Stores? 1
We welcome WOl Bob Forde to our fold. One can see
^he civilian staff sporting brooches with cricket bats and singing
:alypso music. Kudos!
We said farewell to Corporal Alfie Bickle who has been
posted all those sunny miles to Bulford.
North East District
HEADQUARTERS. It is some time since
the Staff Clerk element of the Head-
quarters have been mentioned in THE
GAZETTE, so it would seem appropriate
to introduce ourselves in this, the first of
our regular contributions.
Our Superintending Clerk is WOl
Mike Mason, who relieved WOl Les
Allen on retirement in September last
year. In G Branch we have Staff Sergeant
Jack Rowley as Chief Clerk, whom we congratulate on his
recent selection for promotion to W02. He is assisted by
Corporal Geordie Bird (not necessarily a Magpie) fresh from
Donnington and Private Bob Smith, recently arrived from Depot
W02 Andy Halliwell is Chief Clerk A Branch with a completely
civilian clerical staff, hopefully he will have some Staff Clerk
help when he takes over G Branch South East District in Sep-
tember this year. Ord Branch has Staff Sergeant Tosh Stokes
as Chief Clerk. Finally we must mention our tame photo-
grapher, Sergeant Ron Hudson, down in PR Branch. Officially
Ron belongs to Headquarters UKLF but is permanently attached
to our Headquarters.
ORDNANCE BRANCH.
It must be the weather, though
CRAOC's officers insist that it is all to do with Unit Annual
Inspections, but the fact remains that it is exceedingly difficult
to keep track of them these days. No sooner had we welcomed
Captain John Foster, our newest officer to the fold than he too
disappeared to the Isle of Man to assist one of our TA units,
8 Field Force Ordnance Company at their annual camp.
Congratulations to Sergeant John Bos well of the Army Careers
Office York, who was presented with his Long Service and Good
Conduct Medal recently by CRAOC. Finally Ron Pigott our
clerical officer in Combat Supplies is recovering from an opera-
tion and we look forward to seeing him back in the office in a
month or two.
REGIONAL DEPOT CATTERICK. This month saw the retire-
ment of Major Dusty Millar and we said farewell with regret to
Dusty and Margot at a party held in the REME Officers Mess
Catterick Garrison attended by Lieutenant Colonel and Mrs
Williamson, the officers and their wives. We wish them very good
luck and hope they will continue to keep in touch.
We were happy lo see Captain George Bell OC 16 Supply
Platoon RAOC (V) when he spent a week on technical training
in the Supply Section along with Sergeants Evans and Cosway
and Corporals McCall and Goodbrand, They were joined by
Captain Roy Eason OC 14 Supply Platoon for (he last part of
the training session.

in one place for a photograph. Of course it had to rain but
despite the damp and dark conditions the deed was done and the
proof of it is here reproduced for all to see. Standing left to
right: Lance Corporal Forrest. Privates WhiUington, Stubbs and
Combes. Sitting left to right: Corporal Lindsay, WOl (SSM)
Taylor, Sergeant Scott and Corporal Scott,

The Stores Section.
10 Ordnance Support Battalion
THE last few weeks has seen a lot of activity throughout the
Company on many fronts. The Local Resources Platoon are
still enjoying the sun in Kenya. At present we have one
hundred and seventy LRS under Lieutenant Neal Jobbings with
34 Field Squadron RE at SOY (a couple of mud huts) near
Eldoret in Western Province. I am assured that he did enjoy
the long rainy season, however Corporal Brown's effort prevented
serious flooding in their tents. On the other hand, two hundred
and seventy LRS under the able leadership of Captain Bob
Ellis were enjoying the company of the 2nd Battalion Scots
Guards in Nanyuki. It is rumoured that they enjoyed the
R and R in Mombasa despite the rain. Unfortunately, their
winter hols were terminated with a seventeen hours flight on a
full CI30. Really, it is nice to have you all back. Especially
Staff Sergeant Hector who has got the Battalion shooting team
rehearsing well again. Meanwhile, back in barracks the OC
Local Resources Platoon spent ten interesting days on a recce
in Denmark. They certainly get around.
Captain Peter Ball has now taken over as the Admin Officer.
This is his second hat, his other is Platoon Commander of 2
Supply Platoon. In this job he is ably assisted by Sergeants
Latta, Tonge and Knowles.
In 3 Detail Stores Platoon the story is different. Captain
Rick Kay is looking forward to the load of LOA, Q Malone
