Transcription turned out to be. The Officers and Sergeants totalled one
hundred and fifty seven in their twenty five overs due to good
contributions from Captain Airdrie sixty five and Major Lawton
thirty two and despite Corporals Gill and Marshall taking three
wickets apiece; in reply, the Junior Ranks finished at one hundred
and fifty one for five thanks to Corporal Gill sixty one, Private
Lister thirty three and Lance Corporal Birch twenty seven.
Meanwhile, Captain Wood and WOl Burton journeyed to
York for the North East District AGA Spring Meeting and
returned home having won the afternoon Oreensomes Stable-
ford competition.
Central Ordnance Depot Bicester
WITH the Commandant, Brigadier
Richard Cooke, away sailing in the Greek
Islands for a holiday during two weeks of
this month we looked forward with eager-
ness to a lull in the activity within the
Headquarters—Wrong! 1 In fact we are
happy to see him back for more reasons
than one.
Time for a little brag, our rugby team
did very well in the Hill Cup being beaten
in the final by Depot and Training
Battalion, however, revenge was ours in
the Bruce sevens when we beat Depot and
Training Battalion. The hockey team won the Bari Festival
Shield in the Bari Cup—if that can be counted as winning.
Whilst on sport, old Bicesterites will be interested to know we are
about to start P3 again. See if we can get the wheelchairs
serviceable in time.
We have had a fair old change of staff too! Lieutenant
Colonel David Evans has gone from 1 Sub-Depot across the
road to DSCS—and such a short time after his return from a
very successful detachment to Ghana—some people have all the
luck (?)
Major Peter Scriven, also 1 Sub-Depot (what's wrong with it)
has gone to Ord 4(d) at And over. They have been replaced by
Lieutenant Colonel Mike Marshall and Major Paul Woodley.
An addition, newly on commission, to 1 Sub-Depot is Captain
Alan Pedley.
Lieutenant Colonel Alan Macdonald has moved to the
Tower—-a crowning glory? Major Dennis Bell has gone to
NORTH AG and he is replaced by Lieutenant John AlfonL Other
new arrivals are Major George McDonald and Captain Mike
Hart,
16 BATTALION
THIS month has proved a successful one for the Battalion on
the sporting front. The Battalion football team won the
London League Shield thus ending one of the most successful
seasons for almost a decade. Two years ago the Battalion foot-
ball team was disbanded. Throughout that season they won
only one match. Since then, under the guidance of their Team
Manager. Captain Bill Tweddle, they have become once again
a force to be reckoned with both in Corps circles and the RAF
London League where they play every week. A good squad of
eighteen players have worked hard to achieve their success.
The team won their Division of the RAF London League and
gained promotion. They also achieved a double when they beat
RAF Brize Norton to win the League Cup. We reached the final
of the Richards Cup for the second year running and were
narrowly beaten two to one after extra time by 6 Field Force
Ordnance Company. Lance Corporal Shaun Taylor was presented
with the Battalion's Player of the Year Award in recognition of
his services to Battalion football, Sergeant John Bateman was
voted Players' Player of the Year in the RAF London League
and Captain Bill Tweddle won the League's coveted Manager of
the Year award. In addition Lance Corporals Shaun Taylor and
Keith Bannister and Private Geordie Brocki played for the Corps
with Lance Corporal Pete Ramsbottom also in the Corps
squad. The Battalion squad comprised: Privates Mark Deacon,
Geordie Brocki, Pete Graham and Les Graham, Lance Corporals
Keith Bannister. Sid Coady and Smudge Smith, Sergeant Larry
Power. Privates Billy Hillmand and Dinger Bell Sergeant John
Bateman was the skipper.
The Battalion has a new Adjutant in the shape of Captain
Tim Murray, recently arrived from BAOR. Also new in the
Battalion is Corporal Tony Reid, Royal Regiment of Fusiliers,
who is attached to us for three months pending transfer into
the Corps as a Staff Clerk. He must like Bicester as he has
already requested that he be posted here when his transfer is
finalised. By the time these notes are published Corporal Boot
Blackhurst will have departed for Gibraltar.
Watch out
Gibraltar.
