Transcription Exercise Bathing Belle the WRAC summer (?) camp held
Penhale Cornwall became another * Maplins ' with cries of
• : li De H i " and Corporal 'Baden Powell* Currie replying
I.- - Dib Dib Dib " and going for a " Ging Gang Goolie 1 ' with
S4 nne scouts camping in the Training Area.
The two fun packed weeks included abseiling remembered
for Sergeant Douglas attachment to a rock face in front of
Colonel Stone during his commando style abseil—a gashed
head and badly bruised leg became the major war wounds of
the camp.
Orienteering was carried out on cold wet windy Sundays
with the girls triumphing over the weather. They all managed
lo arrive back in camp with smiles especially OC WRAC Captain
Yvonne Harding, A concrete cross in the middle of the sand
• umes was one check point to which the 21C WRAC Second
Lieutenant Lindy Turner was banished minus hammer and nails.
Everyone enjoyed the camp and our thanks must go to
Sergeant Douglas APTC and Sergeant Craig RAOC for their
endless enthusiasm and expertise both in and ouL of the pub; to
Corporals Brummie Evans and Currie for their patience on the
range and also to the two TA Cooks who managed to keep all
the girls well fed.
ARMY
SCHOOL OF
AMMUNITION
THE Station Full Bore Shoot was an excellent day out and the
School finished the day as runners-up. MISN's (mentioned in
School notes) for the following:—Winners—Falling Plate Com-
petition—Major Terry Cosgrove, Captain Bryden Ritchie, W02
Alan Wase, Staff Sergeant Dave Dennis. Winners—LMG Pairs
—Staff Sergeant Dennis, Sergeant Bob Craig. Winner—Pistol—
Captain Ritchie. Runner-up—SMG—W02 Wase.
During block leave some of the civilian staff and our
resident fisherman cleaned out the fish pool in the school
' quad ' and as the photograph shows they appeared to enjoy
the work, for some it was a totally new experience!
The first event to have an impact was the bt-annual BFT,
which came as a shock to individuals more used to darts,
dominoes or crib as a means of exercise. An even greater shock
to some was the fact that not only did they all pass, but that
they had far more time to spare than the usual milliseconds in
the past.
Having recovered from physical activity, the Depot then
underwent what has sometimes been described as an even
more gruelling event—the DLSA Technical Inspection. First
reports are that as brief as the visit was, nothing was found lo be
seriously wrong.
Brigadier Smith and Major Woods were
entertained to lunch in the Sergeants Mess to enable them to
meet the members of the ACIQ and CTT who are attached to
Longlown for administrative purposes, and although not directly
involved in the Technical side of the visit, were able to provide
a pleasant change of topics for discussion—over a glass of wine.
No sooner were the celebrations over than another was
in progress. Captain John Print and Captain Steve Emerson
returned from the District Skill-at-Arrns Meeting the proud
possessors of trophies for the Regular Army Team Pistol event.
The other members of the team, WOl Maurice Cuthbert, W 2
Fritz Keane (Captain), Staff Sergeant Duncan Learmonth and
Sergeant Nigel Hedley merely muttered " No Comment" when
asked about their successes in the other events.
The sun must have been shining, as it's been noted that
Captain Dick Gill (ATO) and Staff Sergeant Jim Ball have not
been seen at their desks for a week. It's understood that they
have been carrying out propellant burns at Eastriggs, enabling
them to produce even more smoke than normal.
Whatever
the attraction, they were joined by the Line Supervisor, Staff
Sergeant Brian Maxwell, on the last day which, together with
leave and postings, left the SAT darting in and out of five offices
to answer the phones. (Alex and Dorothy couldn't, as they
were busy brewing tea or studying their stars in the papers
in between hospital and hairdresser appointments.)
Finally, we bid a fond farewell to Corporal Peter Sterland
and his wife Enid, and welcome Corporal Gannon fresh from
his basic ATs Course via a leadership course at the RAOC
Depot,
1 Ammunition Inspection and Disposal
Photo Sergeant

Refreshed from leave the gladiators are now preparing for
the Unit sports under the watchful eye of Captain Mark Wick-
ham, now gladly on the mend and looking forward to next
seasons rugby.
The School cricket team won their first match against the
Royal Pioneer Corps, thanks mainly to Staff Sergeant Wally
Griffiths our Guyanese opening bat and some enthusiastic work
by the Scots contingent from CLA Branch, W 2 Bob Cockburn,
Sergeant Bob Craig and Lance Corporal Bernie McGuigan.
We welcome Sergeant Bob Blakely to GM, Lance Corporal
Bernie McGuigan to CLA, Lance Corporals Bob Gray and Sandy
McAuley to EOD and extend bon voyage to Staff Sergeant Jim
Unsworth to BAOR and Corporal (now Sergeant) Pete Fletcher
and Lance Corporal Ned Kelly to CAD Kineton.

Central Ammunition Depot Longtown
THE peace and quiet normally experienced by an isolated,
windswept, rain washed and extremely far north Ammunition

LUDGERSHALL
EXERCISE SADDLE SORE might bring back painful memories
for Sergeant George Bronco Buster Betts—the Wild West of
Wiltshire was flowing with milk and real ale. It was indeed
the promised land compared to the mud of the Marlborough
Downs which Corporals Andy Watson and Brian Smith ex-
perienced the following weekend. The Royal Commonwealth
Society for the Blind may have benefited by a few pounds from
our efforts but as Major John Rose, WOl Paddy Quinn, Star!
Sergeant Burt, Lance Corporal Forder, Privates Povey and
Gargate found the Downs are not easy to walk over after rain,
whether you do eight or eighteen miles. Their families also
produced a sterling effort.
