Transcription Lawrence, Staff Sergeant Ray Dawson, Corporals Ron Audrain
and Derek Cooling, spent eight days in Korea and in between
visits to Panmunjon (guided by Staff Sergeant Paul Payne RAOC
of the CLM), Gloucester Hill, site of one of the famous battles
of the Imjin River, a frontline battalion of the 1st ROK Division
and a North Korea built tunnel (under South Korean territory!),
they were entertained to lunches by, it seems, everybody except
Kim II Sung! If this report, incidentally, seems like sour grapes
because I didn't go, you're right. Somewhere in between all
this frivolity and merrymaking, three games of rugby were
squeezed in: two against South Korean sides, where the Tigers
were narrowly beaten in both cases with the scores forty two to
ten and forty nine to three; and one game against an expatriate
side wheTe the result was a more satisfying six. nil win. Both
Frank Lawrence and Derek Cooling played in all three games,
Ray Dawson played in two (the more difficult two he emphasises)
while Ron Audrain played only once before being admitted to
the US Army hospital with a badly infected arm. Now recovered,
Ron is getting ready to face the rigours of UK on posting,
though no doubt he will quickly slot into the local rugby
scene.
Farewells have been said to Lieutenant Colonel Keith
Mullins, Sergeant George Garrow and their respective families
on posting from the Colony, We wish you all well for the
future. To fill the vacant chairs, we welcome Lieutenant Colonel
Tony Pratt and Sergeant Alan Guest, both Gunners, Welcome
to Hong Kong and it is hoped you enjoy your tour. With
Alan Guests influx into the G Branch clerical staff, there are
now so many different cap badges in the clerks office, it seems
that the only one not immediately on view is that of the Alder-
shot District Traction Company.
Congratulations go also to Corporal Stu Davies and Jul'
on the birth of Melanie Jane who arrived four weeks earlier tba*
expected but still weighed in at six pounds six ounces.

found that since he works better at three thousand feet, he mav
as well help out with the Army Air Corps,
*
Congratulations go to: Staff Sergeant Taff Terriza on hi*
award of the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. Alex
Lamb on his promotion to Sergeant. Staff Sergeant Jim Bradv
on his substantive promotion.

Admin A* Team was the Departmental seven-a-side Soccer
Championship, The final after five matches in the same day
was played against the combined ICP/ADPI/DPO Staff who
had already played against Admin 'A' in the first game of the
day. Tired legs hauled the ball around the park and the final
result of one goal and a corner to one goal showed that the
teams had given their all. Mrs Jane Archer presented the
trophies to Major Robert Neill, W02 Harry Marie, Staff
Sergeant Richard Farren, Sergeants Jess Ogden and Joe Mc-
Carthy, Corporal Steve Raw, Mr Wong (Goal) and Private Leung
(HKMSC).
Exercise Happy Hike continues along the MacLehose Trail
with various groups from ICP and Stores Group. No doubt they
will talk about their achievement and swing the lamp for months
to come.
The BFT Swimming Test tie breaker resulted in a ninety
four per cent pass rate which unfortunately was not high enough
to earn an award.
STORES GROUP. It is nice to see a friend's name mentioned
but how can we mention everyone within th& Group without
boring the reader? A list of names. N o ! A poem. ' N o . '
Right let's take it from the top.
WOl Alan Whiteley was in hospital quite poorly for a while
however is now back with us fit and welt with the all clear from
the * doc/
Staff Sergeant Charlie Orr who organised the Unit's Inter
Departmental Annual Soccer Seven's, and also one of the
referees. The competition was a success and much enjoyed by
those who took part (over ninety persons). Staff Sergeant Jim
Brady who captained the groups *A* team did very well to reach
the semis and missed going into the final by only one corner.
Sergeant Pete Ingham who completed the Coast of China
Marathon and was well placed although the actual placing is a
secret
We have just had Corporal John Aldridge internally posted
to us from the FAMTO Store. Welcome John. John who
plays cricket for the British Forces side Hong Kong did well
in a recent game when British Forces took on the top of the
league team ' Little Sai Wan * and beat them. John got six
wickets for forty runs in seventeen overs and scored in his
innings forty two not out which included four straight sixes off
the Colony offspin bowler, well done John.
Is there anyone I have not thought of, yes of course
Corporals Barry Saxby and Dick Sargent who are soon to leave
us for pastures new.

WE must apologise for the lack of BATUS
notes in recent months, but what with the Winter
Repair Programme, the BATUS Golf Society
tour of Hawaii, and Exercise Snow Drift ive
thought the least we could do in view of the
Moratorium was spare you the details. Not to
mention the great saving in terms of paper and
typewriter ribbon.
Our photograph which really ought to make
the cover, shows the OCs wife trying and failing
to find the shortest distance between two points.
The past month has seen some hectic activity, with our
Technical Inspection by the Chief Ordnance Officer coinciding
with the deployment of the first battle group for Exercise
Medicine Man 1.
Marion Courtney-Green demonstrates a new Canadian downhill
technique,
Brigadier Berresford's visit was short but very busy and its
highlight was a dinner for the officers, warrant officers and
Senior NCOs and their ladies. This provided an ideal oppor-
tunity for the Brigadier to present a Commendation from the
GOC Northern Ireland to Sergeant Peter Grills.
We have said farewell to WOl Smith and WG2 Forbes
Scots DG, and have welcomed in their places WOl Goodenough
and W02 Pratt 2 RTR. Congratulations to Private George
Blake and his wife on the birth of a daughter, Stephanie Ann, and
to . . . who else? Ah yes, to Major Courtney-Green on being
elected Mayor of the Crown Village of Ralston. Well, actually
he only got one vote, but it was from the Base Commander!
