SUB-DEPOT—
FLOTILLA,
"Different," that's how the
WOIC Andy Meachen describes his life at
Flotilla. He has a staff of thirty six, twelve
military and twenty four civilians all housed
in a new storehouse with spacious office
accommodation, which would be the envy
ar.y Sub-Depot account holder in the British Army. Having
ipieted his Malay language course he then proceeded to learn

doesn't put things away anymore he ' Stows' them. No-

>ression is * Make and Mend' (half day off).
Supporting fourteen vessels the Sub-Depot has around forty
iiisand item headings (if only one of them was a crystal ball)
i is inscaling at * a rate of knots.' A recent trip to Manila
the three Waspada Class ships resulted in mountains of
ires being drawn from stock by the ship's crew before

Our WOIC PC and A WOl Hamid continues to process
les of BAF 19's (remember the AFG 982s? It still lives) while
r WOIC Stores W02 (Tom) Jalil keeps up his motor mileage
jms by his frequent trips to our Base Depot at Berakas.
tmour has it however that we are soon to receive our own
nd Rover so the days of the private car may be numbered,
rry Tom,
A belated welcome to our new and first OIC, Lieutenant
r ::ddin Sahat straight from the flesh pots of Berakas. Con-
Jations to Sergeant Jumat on his well earned promotion and
to Corporal Yahya who thinks the WOIC's telephone is
for the private use of his girlfriends.
Further congratulations are in order for George Hendley
his selection for promotion to WOl also to Derek Pickford
. » breathed a sigh of relief and said he never doubted it.
We welcome Major Harris (DAQMG 1 designate), WOl
marsh (Supt Clerk designate) and WOl Adams (WOIC
rtson Engineer S/Section designate) and we wish them and
r families a very happy stay in Brunei. They are all getting
nek into their Malay Course at the moment.

and won them both, The Monthly Medal and The Dato Peat
Trophy (Dato Peat being of course that well known Soud Fuels
Magnate).
We must also welcome Staff Sergeant Mel Hamilton
from 1
v
the Hebrides, well on the way now to enjoying his Cooks Tour
with us. Already big changes afoot in the Stores Section, they
now finish work at 12.30 instead of I o'clock to fall in line with
the new bar opening times at the * Bunga Angerrak ' if the
truth be known. We wouldn't want you to get the wrong im-
pression of Brunei, the Stores Section has been extremely busy
as usual, The Major Talking Point being the arrival of ( C
Flights ' new Bowser Engine. We hope it lasts longer than the
previous one, it better. All they want down there now is new
racking for the Storehouse—any offers!
Our CQMS Staff Sergeant Ben Carr has been doing his
BFT training three times a week and recently made it one hundred
per cent pass for RAOC members. All he needs to do now is
live down the statement made on his confidential report by the
outgoing Garrison Adjutant, when referring to Bens regular
attendance at the local hash, the sentence that appeared was
" Staff Sergeant Carrs' most recent success is that he has now
become a Master of the Lash "
I wonder what his wife's
reaction to that was!

Force Ordnance Company Belize
WHAT a month!
Who says we d o n ' t
work out here! This
month British Forces
Belize have undergone
their inspection by the
MGA, Major General
Hellier. To this end
there has been much
waving
of
paint
brushes and sweeping
of brooms. Staff Sergeant Pete Wade and Sergeant Dave Anson
discovered hidden talents as tile layers in support of the DOE
' rapid clean-up * team. All the work seems to have paid off,
however, since the MGA seemed well pleased with his inspection
of the Company and indeed the Force as a whole.
Although activity here within Airport Camp has reached a
feverish pitch over the past four weeks we are pleased to report
that the state of emergency has been lifted and so ' outside '
there is an air of the old Belizean tranquillity and calm. Let's
hope it lasts.
In a lull between inspections and painting we were
pleased to see Staff Sergeant Pete Wade presented with the
Long Service and Good Conduct Medal by Brigadier Vivian,
the Force Commander. We wish Pete hearty congratulations.
This month for a change the unit boat is seaworthy at the
time of writing these notes. Even as I pen these lines she
should be skimming across the blue waters of the Caribbean
with a party of jolly supply specialists and clerks. Life's tough
out here but very occasionally it does have its compensations,
Finally, this month we welcome WOl Harrison, Sergeant
Foster, Corporals Beattie, Cole, Jones, O'Neill and Thompson,
Lance Corporal Griffiths and Stevens and Private Johnson. We

GOODBYEE! GOODBYEE! —The Panaga
Golf Course will never be quite the same
again, those incredible fifteen yard drives and
forty five yard putts!
The colourful phrases that echoed
around the Club-House. Yes, the Bouchers
have played the course for the very last
time, to the overwhelming relief of the green-
keepers. Take heed SHAPE they are on their
way! AG9, obviously aware of Molly and
rians first love, managing to come up trumps yet again—How
)me the rest of us always manage to get Northern Ireland?
rust take up golf!
The couple were suitably bade farewell recently at both the
^rgeants Mess and the Castaways Club (JRC for those not yet
vare-—you should read these notes more often) and will be
rely missed, we wish them every success in the future. Major
ugustus and Mrs Nora Wilson arrived in good time to witness
tost of the festivities, welcome, have a good tour. One word of
arntng though, the Headquarters typist gets most upset if
auYe not in to drink your coffee by 10 am.
W02 Graham and Mrs Laura Manders also took their
ave of us recently. They were not quite as lucky, still we
ear it told that the sun does shine occasionally in Bulford.
raham and Laura will be sadly missed by the rugby and the
^hing fraternities (not to mention the Anchor Brewery). We
; mid really at this point thank Laura also for the contribution,
':£ made to BFBS during her tour, you wouldn't recognise the
luce now Laura, so many new faces!
WG2 Kevin Reardon is still here! currently keeping a watch-
-il eye on the progress of his brand new ASU (details next
lonth), successfully taking over also on Panaga Golf Course
rom Major Boucher having entered two competitions recently,
