Birmingham Branch
Stall Sergeant Pete Wade receives his Long Service and Good
Conduct Medal in Belize.
say farewell to WOl Major, Sergeants Lindsey and Miller,
Corporals Beech and Watts, Lance Corporals Devine and Till-
man and Private Purves, We congratulate Private Horan on his
promotion (a Lance Corporal.
WE often hear that we live in a small world, A short time
ago some of our members and their ladies attended the annual
dinner of the Federation of Birmingham Ex-Service Associations,
One of the guests was their newly appointed Honorary Chaplain
the Reverend Leslie Brolherton, Vicar of St Annes C of E
Church, Moseley. When our Vice-Chairman, George Bennett
and he caught sight of each other it was instant recognition
although it was the first time that they had met since serving
together in 5 BOD during the second world war. What a
pleasant surprise reunion it was for them and how fitting that
it should take place in the Captain Wilkinson Room of s the
Birmingham United Services Club.
[ understand that Les Brotherton was no mean sportsman
of the Corps. He finished his service with the rank of WOl,
Sub-Conductor and then returned to his job as an accountant
before he joined the Church. 1 liked the fact that he said that if
ever he could help our branch in any way or could be of
any assistance to any individual member he would be only too
glad to do all that he possibly could. If anyone should ever
visit St Annes do make yourself known to him he will be
pleased to meet you.
I have visited Arthur Vick and he is getting on fine especially
now that he can go out and about a little,

FOLLOW THAT CAR
AT the Army manoeuvres near Warsaw last year, trial was
made of a new kind of armoured car, provided with cylindrical
reservoirs and upright funnelled tubes for the outlet of smoke*
The car discharged a compressed form of gas, which expanded
into dense clouds, so forming a thick curtain before the infantry
behind, and enabling it to advance well screened from the
enemy's view.
