WOl Moore is planning to take a team to Cyprus later in the
year to compete in the Cyprus Walkabout. He is certainly be-
coming quite a veteran in such events—two Harz, and two
Cyprus Walkabouts to his credit.
Our picture shows the Dulmen Team in the foreground,
second from left WOl Moore, Corporal Tutor and Private
Murray. Poaching on the far left is RSM Ian Drew of Viersen.
Conductor Ian Birchall MBE, receives his badge.
BRING
OUT YOUR
SWORDS
HE Training Centre desperately requires officers swords to
plenish their current holdings, which due to the passage of
me and constant use, are beginning to show signs of wear.
he Pool is maintained to enable officers to attend General
ourts Martial, Passing Out Parades, Freedom Parades etc and
?r the training of newly commissioned officers.
At todays prices the purchase of new swords would place
a extremely heavy burden on Corps Funds which, as you
now, are required for many other purposes.
It is with this in mind that we appeal to any officer,
lortly due to retire or already retired, to consider donating
is sword to the Training Centre where it will continue to take
i active participation in Corps functions.
Officers wishing to make this generous donation to a worthy
luse should contact the Adjutant Training Battalion and Depot
t Blackdown Barracks, Deepcut.
THE HARZ
DOUBLE
CELEBRATION
ON the day that Sergeant ' Geordie * Inskip was informed of his
substantive promotion to Sergeant, he was also presented with
the Zimbabwe Independence medal by Lieutenant Colonel van
Orton* Commander Supply, Ordnance Services Berlin.
This
double event was celebrated with a glass of champagne in the
Colonel's office.
Sergeant Inskip, a baker in the Supply Depot, was posted to
Berlin in April 1981 following service with 48 Company RAOC.
It was whilst he was with 48 Company that Sergeant Inskip
was detached to Zimbabwe as part of the monitoring force team *
during the run up to the elections. He was employed on local
procurement duties.
Sergeant Inskip is one of the very few soldiers to qualify
for the Zimbabwe medal, which is awarded for service in that
country between December 1979 and April 1980.
WALKABOUT
ONGRATULATIONS to WOl Pat Moore, Corporal Don
utor and Private Andy Murray of Dulmen on successfully
ompleting the recent two day Harz Orienteering marathon
.'ommonly known as the Harz Walkabout) in a creditable time
f fourteen and a half hours.
The event is held in the Harz Mountains and involved
jams of three in walking and running over mountainous and
lagged terrain covering a distance of fifty miles plus and reach-
ig heights of eight thousand feet. The aim of the competition
; to provide a challenging test of physical endurance, mental
lamina and team spirit coupled with routes for each day to
;st competitors' map reading skills. This was very much in
vidence by the number of teams retiring as the competition
progressed.
This is the third year the Harz Walkabout has been held
.nd judging by the number of entries (seventy four teams) it is
IOW a popular event and firmly established in the BAOR. Spari-
ng calendar and likely to become as prestigeous as the famous
Cyprus Walkabout.
