nd training the team. Ail members of the team are to be
ongratulated on their efforts. The same team competed In the
IAOR Minor Units Competition and managed a very creditable
ixlh position. Again notable performances were achieved by
11 ihose who competed.
I'm told that some of our newer
thletes Private Dave Lang, Corporal John Rigby, Private Ian
haw are looking forward to more competitions.
Our fabled Unit ' Wimmin ' Team ventured out for the
ecent Rhine Area Minor Units Team Championships. With the
tAOR Stage of the Competition being held in Berlin, there was
>lenty of incentive there, to warrant maximum effort.
The
presence of the Commandant, Officer Commanding, RSM and
he SPs girlfriend also helped. Our team of SI Mai Shaw,
Corporals Brian Shaw and John Rigby, Lance Corporals Steve
Yard, Geordie Laing, Geordie Scaife and Dave Lloyd and Private
an Shaw are congratulated on their winning efforts. W 2 Dave
tfarsh and Sergeant Malt Helm were Chief Worrier and Chief
rimekeeper. PRI Pat and Mrs Ally Marsh were chief spectators.
The month has brought us to the end of the tug-of-war
cam's first season under the guidance of Corporal Pete Keast.
fheir last competitions were the BAOR finals held at Bunde, our
ive hundred and sixty and six hundred and forty kilograms
ichieved fourth position. Whilst in the RAOC (BAOR) Travers
Ilarke the teams finished second behind our colleagues from
I ADOC. The team will miss Corporal Keast, who leaves us
"or 3 ADOC, but on a happier note it will at least allow the-
RAOC to field yet another team in future competitions. We
thank him and his wife for their support and wish them well
in the future.
We were pleased to receive the Representative Colonel
Commandant Major General Stanyer CBE on a recent visit to
the unit. He was shown various aspects of the unit, and took
the time to present Corporals Steve Turner and Bill Lewis with
their GSM Northern Ireland. Shortly after, he presented W 2
Peter Knoll with his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal at a
ceremony held in the Sergeants Mess, Congratulations to Mr
Knoll and may he have many more crime-free years ahead of
him,
Promotion and births seem to have taken their grip of the
unit-
Private Cameron (son) has seemed to upset the trend of baby
girls of Corporals Bousfield and Wells, Lance Corporal Thomson
and Private Barke. Congratulations to all, especially their
wives on their recent family additions.
Congratulations go to Sergeant Wilde, Corporals Anderson,
Bartram, Collins, Lynch, Parsons 117 and Wright, Lance
Corporals Martin, Francis, Taylor 588 and Wright 578.
We wish Sergeant Andy Hawkins a safe tour in Northern
Ireland and farewell to Sergeant Kiel man, Corporals Gray,
Percy and Stevenson and Lance Corporal Ramsey.
Welcome to W 2 Rogers, Sergeant Carse, Corporal Rawson,
Lance Corporals Beck ley and Taylor, Privates Francis, Kelly,
Martin and Peppard.
Our congratulations go to Private Mel Clifford and Miss
Bernardette Lynch on their recent marriage and wish them
happiness for the future.

HEADQUARTERS
WE were delighted to be visited by our Representative Colonel
Commandant Major General Stanyer and Mrs Stanyer. The visit
commenced with an initial briefing in the Headquarters and
then the General was conducted around the Inventory Control
Point where he met military personnel and UK based civilians.
After taking colfee wilh male and female junior ranks in the
Pen and Stacker Club, he was entertained in the Viersen
RAOC Sergeants Mess, before lunching in Windberg Station
Officers Mess with the Viersen Officers of the Group and their
wives.
Mrs Stanyer, meanwhile, had been introduced to the
mysteries of the Printing Section of Ordnance Depot Viersen
by the military printers. She subsequently met members of
the Viersen Wives Club for coffee in the Alpine Restaurant be-
fore rejoining the General for lunch.
Of particular concern to the Headquarters was the presenta-
tion of the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal by the
General to SQMS J. R. Watford, our Chief Clerk. Mrs Watford
and their four children were in the Sergeants Mess for the
presentation.
A team from the Headquarters consisting of Major Buxey,
Conductor Johnston and SQMS Watford entered for, and
successfully completed, the Hartz Mountains Marathon Orien-
teering two days event. Although they were lost twice (on each
occasion finishing up in the same village) they completed the
course in the stipulated time. We would not, however, like to
hazard a guess on the total distance finally covered.

ORDNANCE
DEPOT
VIERSEN
THE 13th Allied Friendship Day International sports meeting
took place at Monchdeddingen, Bavaria recently and among the
British participants was the Ord Depot Viersen small bore
team composed of Major Graham and Mrs Macdonald, SSM
Dave Cartwright and SQMS Dave Timms.
At the formal
parade's arrival at the sports field in beautiful horse drawn
carriages, however, SSM Cartwright betrayed his early training
as a Master Butcher by remarking to SQMS Timms that there
were 'some lovely steaks among that lot'—at the same time
casting admiring glances at the splendid grey horses. The Inter-
national shoot saw nine teams drawn from the US Forces, the
Bundeswehr, French Forces. German Police and of course the
British Army, and the Viersen team came away with the third
team prize and Major Macdonald sporting a huge grin and the
third individual prize from thirty six competitors. H i e unit
team has cause to congratulate itself in other fields, since—
with Corporal Gus Wooliey and the above three serving mem-
bers—the RAOC BAOR Winter League. RAOC Corps Baker
Cup, Rhine Area Championship trophies have all arrived to
add lustre to our silver cabinet.
Sergeant Frank Voice replaced Major Macdonald in the
Rhine Area fifty metre shoot which we also won, making it a
nice four-in-hand.
